  1. Train to Cronulla, then ferry to Bundeena? From Brooklyn you could do the Riverboat Postman along the Hawkesbury
  2. Yes, you can do that fairly easily. Check for bus timetables to see if they suit otherwise the ship may have a shuttle or you could catch a taxi. Once on French Island you could walk although it is a large place. Best to hire a car, bikes or Ebikes. The general store has these but best to book ahead as others may have a similar idea. https://www.figsfrenchisland.com.au/
  3. I think that staying at the airport to save money is false economy. There are plenty of hotels closer to the CBD and/or Circular Quay that will not only be more enjoyable and easier but you will not have to take public transport back and forth at additional cost. Take a look at hotel booking website using the map view and put your budget in to filter the list.
  4. Why would you wish to stay at the airport? I am guessing the Celebrity Edge which will be docked at the OPT in Circular Quay which is basically where the Opera House is (5 minutes walk). I would be looking to stay at a hotel at Circular Quay or the Rocks. At the very least, in the city near the light rail
  5. I just tried it. Yes it does work, my iPhone was able to use my laptop using my home WiFi
  6. Do you know if a mobile hotspot under Windows works when connected to WiFi and not a cell signal? My iPhone doesn't allow hotspot connections unless connected to a mobile network. The ship uses WiFi
  7. You can do even better than that and get a travel router. To use it, you log into your PC, set up the router to connect to the ships WiFi and then all of your devices are connected at the same time through the router. It also gives you more security so you cannot be eavesdropped on. I have done this and had 2 iPhones, a PC, an iPad, watch, camera and Firestick all connected at once. The only drawback is that to use WiFi outside your cabin, you have to log on with a single device but can reconnect on returning. They are very inexpensive. This one is available from Amazon NZ
  8. Mrs Y came across a cruise Barcelona to Malta aboard the Caledonian Sky. This ship was recently owned by APT and sailed the Kimberley and Fiji. There is not much available online as to the shipboard experience, which may also be totally different on the Med, but any info will be good.
  9. Silversea have a 14 day cruise from Sydney to Auckland one way on November 22. It is 3 times the price of the others but it is all inclusive so may only work out a little more and saves airfares back to Auckland. Viking has one on Nov 29 but that is double the Silversea fare
  10. It i It is really quite easy to work out. Fremantle is roughly 20km from Perth and using a taxi fare calculator such as this, you will find that it should be around $50 give or take depending on time of day, traffic, etc. Taxis should be abundant as well as Uber which would be cheaper if not surging due to the ship docking.
  11. From the cruise port, walk through the botanical gardens to the tram stop then follow it to the depot. You can buy tickets there but probably best to call and book ahead. http://portlandcabletrams.com.au/index.html The walk to the depot is only about 20 minutes walk.
  12. Cradle mountain is 4 hours drive from Hobart. The only tours available in your timeframe would be scenic flight or helicopter tours. Freycinet is more accessible but most of the tours are 10+ hours from Hobart. It is 2.5 hours from Hobart which only gives you 3 hours there to explore. If you really want to do this, my best suggestion is to rent a car and have them deliver it and pick up from the cruise port.
  13. Thanks for the video, very interesting, however I was expecting to see a new ferry between AU & NZ, which is what "trans Tasman" means! The SOT is trans Bass Strait.
  14. Personally, I would hire a car for the day. You could go with a regular company or a carshare such as Turo or Uber. I have done this on many cruise port days, In Portland ME I used Turo. The owner (a car dealership) met me at the port and again at the end of the day. It worked well and I was able to visit the beautiful Maine coastal townships where tours don't take you. As long as you leave your final destination 1.5-2 hours before you need to be aboard, there should be no problems. Armed with a map and knowledge of your stops, DIY should be better than what is available commercially.
  15. It is an hour (around 50km) from Sassafras back to Station Pier. Allow an extra 30 minutes in case of traffic. There is lots to do up there so you will need to plan your day. This will help. There are amazing views from Mount Dandenong acroos the city and Port Phillip Bay, you may even see your cruise ship. There is a restaurant called Sky High and the surrounding area where views are had as well as a lovely walk along the ridge, Kyeema track, where there is a memorial to the plane Kyeema which crashed into the mountain in the 1930's.
  16. I used to live in Belgrave, Miss Marples is the most overrated place in the Dandenongs. It is the definition of "tourist trap". Last time I went past (years ago) there were lines of tourists waiting to get in. If you do go to the Dandenongs, it is also worth doing a trip on Puffing Billy. This tour does both. https://luxuryescapes.com/au/experience/dandenong-ranges/rez:PAWB1E
  17. The information is here The good news is that on a cruise ship day, you don't have to walk to the tram stop but catch the bus from the port
  18. Bankwest Zero Platinum has no monthly or international transaction fees. (Yet?🤔)
  19. This website is a good start. It updates regularly, so take a look at several weeks out from your visit. https://whatson.melbourne.vic.gov.au/ Also take a look here
  20. I would stay near Circular Quay or The Rocks. This is the nicest part of Sydney for a tourist and you could catch one of the iconic ferries on the Saturday. My recommendation is to spend a few hours in Manly via the ferry. From CQ it is only about 20-30 minutes to the international terminal and staying near the airport is kind of pointless. There is an airport train or taxi/Uber and on a Sunday it should be an easy trip.
  21. Is that the glacier tour? It is VERY weather dependant and may be cancelled. We were unfortunate on our day but will try again next time. The City Sights kayak tour is more about kayaking than city sightseeing, although is a fun way and much preferable to taking a boat trip on the Yarra, which is boring. There are free greeter tours of approx 2 hours available from the visitor centre in Swanston St. You can book online for one. https://whatson.melbourne.vic.gov.au/visitor-info/greeter-service The linked site above will also give you lots of ideas for Melbourne
  22. There is also the "Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel" in Pitt St
  23. Are you referring to the "Sydney Harbour Hotel" or the Hilton as mentioned above? The Hilton is not actually classified as a "harbour" hotel. Something closer to or in the Rocks will give you access to the type of pub you are looking for. https://www.australiantraveller.com/nsw/sydney/pubs-in-the-rocks/
  24. The taxi martial will find the suitable size car for you at the airport. For Uber, they may give you an Uber XL which will probably cost more. As long as you don't have a ridiculous amount of luggage, a full size SUV or station wagon should suffice. It will probably cost around $60-$70
