We did the North Star in March and there was no weigh-in. -
Oh man I’m going to be disappointed.

Loved the short ribs over pappadelle pasta.

Wow what a coincidence, we have also booked 7123 — thx for info. When we booked, there were no Sunset Verandas available. We had a SV on Apex and it was wonderful except for the soot (8th deck) & the price of course. I’m aware the DPV is much smaller balcony but at least it is outside space.

New Policy, only one entree at a time?

I will order the same this week. It’s treating us like second graders -

Are you kidding? -
Thanks. Just what I was thinking -/ some gear likely would pass. She wouldn’t bring a bat. Footwork and scooping the ball I think that’s what she had in mind but don’t want to take a chance on losing her gear, so best left home.

I know Not my idea 🙂

My granddaughter wants to bring her softball mitt and ball. I notice among prohibited items is “sports gear”. Does anyone have experience one way or the other with mitt and ball? Can we bring them? Thanks.

Housekeeping moving to once a day?
true45 replied to Donsyb's topic in Royal Caribbean International
When I booked the RCCL cruise the menus and policies of the dining room hadn’t changed, added fees for room service, crown & anchor benefits were higher, cabin cleaning service was 2 times a day, gratuities were lower. It is like ordering a dress from a designer non-refundable and receiving a dress from some other low-quality store instead. Not right, not fair. And cancellation would mean $ loss and disappointment of children in the family. -
Anyone done Carnival, how is it?

In 30+ sailings on several cruise lines, this is the first time I lost weight (on Carnival). -
What are your cost cutting observations

Yes you are correct I must have read the form incorrectly thanks

We have had the nice Elite breakfast with smoothies & cappuccino several times in Tuscan or another restaurant on Apex. Bur on the list of benefits for Elites it says cappuccino again. Does that mean these coffees are available at other places and at other times? Just strange to note this benefit in 2 different categories

I have also organized and participated in slot pulls — didn’t feel comfortable with the percentage for taxes so didn’t include it. I don’t want to be alone on the hook for taxes due either. But I don’t feel comfortable with being asked for 25% or 20% knowing I likely wouldn’t owe that much in my own bracket. It is a lot of work to organize the slot pull and I do think it is fair to use the card of the organizer for the points. ⚓️

Nieuw Statendam Cruise Review with Lots of Photos and Menus
true45 replied to MVPinBoynton's topic in Holland America Line
Thanks - beautiful pics and great review -
Yes, I won a cruise in 1984 as my first and started with Celebrity soon after in the Michel Roux days. Recently, there were some cutbacks such as the cutting off of the pillow chocolates but to their credit, it didn’t last long. The Apex, our last cruise with them in January was fantastic- best entertainment we ever had on a ship in variety and talent as was the food which was varied in the buffet and dining rooms. The 4-main no extra charge rooms were wonderful. Prices start high, yes but there are many sales. We loved the aft balcony — giant balcony bigger cabin with doors — don’t like the infinite balcony at all. We like the itineraries on Holland, therefore our first sailing with them but really hate the nitpicking. Chocolates only on dressy nights really? This may not seem important but cutbacks do show as they add up to taint the experience. Will I be asked if we want turndown in evenings? It would be the first time.

We were on Celebrity 2x and Carnival (never again Carnival) once this past year ) and can say Celebrity food and service was exceptional and improved.

Is petty the right word? Charge for tea and if you have starter and salad? We are new to HAL but not new to cruising - mostly Celebrity but also Oceania & Disney Rccl. Very surprised HAL would do this in Specialty Restaurants.

As a frequent Celebrity (and other lines) sailor, I’m wondering about the food on HAL, too —. especially after reading this thread. I’ll know soon, after our Nov 26 sailing.
