I hope they continue using ArriveCAN

There were a few news stories at the end of June that the Canadian government has no intention of getting rid of it,  but they are getting a lot of push back, especially from the travel industry. Time will tell.

we just might have all our meals in the MDR or Specialty Restaurants and forgo the buffet.

We spent a week on the Eclipse and never once ate at the buffet, we had all our meals in Luminae save for one lunch in Sushi on 5. Hubby tested positive a couple of days after we got home, we drove to the port so it was not flight related. I believe the scientists who say transmission is airborne.

  3. Sorry to hear. Thanks for sharing from your perspective.

I also believe there are many more cases than one would think. Just 2 days after disembarking the Eclipse in June my husband started symptoms and tested positive, and I did about 5 days later. In the past 2 months, 3 other couples we know, one on Celebrity and the others on 2 different cruise lines also tested positive. What are the odds?

We drove to the port for our cruise, never took an elevator and wore masks except while eating and drinking. We also thought with the percentages and just a 7 night cruise that we might escape it. Not to be.

Given that your cruise was in Europe, and CDC reporting was not applicable, no way of knowing how good or bad the situation is over there.

  4. We have just a bit of experience, but Regent offered limited shore excursions on turn over day. In Hong Kong it was wonderful,  a tai chi lesson followed by a dim sum lunch, tea shop visit and shopping stop. I can't recall if there were other options. In Dubai the only option was a HOHO bus pass. I imagine it depends on the port and the number of people doing a B2B. (It is also a great day to catch up on laundry if you are on for an extended time and prefer to do some of your own.)

Also, there are no priority boarding lines any more for anyone except suites and Zenith members.

Vancouver in June, we were in a Celebrity suite. We did not see any indication of priority lines until we got the check in process then there was an agent for suites and Zenith but we were directed to a different agent since the suite agent was dealing with someone. It was a fairly quick process thru the various lines, luggage drop off, security, US customs and check in.

  6. On the Eclipse in June I went to the cashier and got a slot machine credit using some of my non refundable OBC. (Could not do it at a machine as it asked for a PIN, which I did not have on my key card.) I fed the slip of paper into a penny machine, played a bit then cashed out the remainder and took that slip to the cashier for cash. No fees, except what I lost, lol.

I would almost guarantee no since there is little differencebetween an electric kettle and a sterilizer.

Please check with the cruise line to be sure about a sterilizer. I am not sure I understand the kettle comment. We were on the Eclipse in Alaska last month and our butler brought us an electric kettle for our use in our suite.

  8. I am sorry you had that issue. We had the same thing on the Eclipse in June, with someone on the balcony below us. The first time I called Guest Relations and waited on hold for almost 10 minutes. They said they would look into it. When it happened a second time and again I called, same thing, they would look into it. I got the sense they needed proof, possibly housekeeping finding butts when made up the room? It never stopped.

It had not occurred to me before to take a photo, but this is him on disembarkation day while we were at the pier in Vancouver, enjoying a final coffee and cigarette.

  9. There is a FAQ on the Celebrity website that addresses testing timing. This is a cut and paste from https://www.celebritycruises.com/healthy-at-sea/faqs  It does not stipulate that it needs to be done at a certain time of day, or in relation to your boarding time. Interesting if someone had to retest.

When calculating which days you can take your test, be aware that the day you set sail is not counted as one of the days, unless the country of embarkation stipulates that the test be taken within 24 hours of arrival.

For example, if you are setting sail on a Saturday, and you are required to test 3 days before your sailing, you can take your test on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday; and for 2 days in advance, you can take the test Thursday or Friday.

That was part of what I wondered is how when you miss the cruise what is the process if you have to catch up to the cruise at another port?

The guy reached out on social media since he was having a hard time getting in contact with Celebrity. I guess he eventually did. The first port was a tender port so Celebrity would not let them board there. They also had to retest.
