  1. We cruise because we think cruising is the best bang for your bucks, meeting new people, and talking with the crew members and learning about their home countries ect... Why do we cruise Princess because......well.....I'm not sure December will be our first Princess cruise. So we will be definitely coming back NEW. We just hope that Princess gives us the WoW factor.

  2. Yes, Pop Choir is an informal choir group that passengers sign up for. Watch for it in the Patter. You practice a few times during the cruise then give a performance in the atrium at the end of the cruise. I've done it several times and it's always fun. I've done Sound of Music only once (because I cruised only once last year) but it was my favorite, so I hope they continue it.

Sweet I will look for on the Ruby in December, sounds fun. I think the Ruby has "The Voice of the Ocean" going to have to check that out also.

  3. Can anyone report what songs the pop choirs are singing since the Sound of Music supposedly went away?

I've only signed up for it twice. The first was a Panama Canal trip in December 2015, the year of Princess' and the movie's mutual 50th anniversary. And the second time was this year (Crown to Mexico in late February), when for some reason we were still doing Sound of Music, though the anniversary was over.

I found it fun to be part of a team and doing something "constructive." And I enjoyed most of the SOM material, but I might be ready to move on to some new tunes.

So, what are they singing now? Thanks in advance.

    Jim

Is this something that the Princess cruise line does or guest?? I Love The Sound of Music. You said "I've only signed up for it twice" so something I could sign up for as a guest aboard the Ruby??

  4. Thanks. We will have a bunch of OBC on our upcoming cruise and I'm looking for something other than clothing, jewelry or perfume. Anew pair of Ray-Ban glasses seemed like a possibility. I do realize they would be lower on land, but we do get a bit of discount for being Elite. Worth looking at.

    Crown Grill all 8 nights:D

  5. It's been quite a few years, but I remember from past cruises waking up when the ship docks due to the change in movement from moving to stopping. We are cruising Alaska this summer and we have some very early port times. Should I expect myself and my kids to be up when the ship docks? Or can you and do you sleep through the docking? We are in a midship balcony and will have a white noise machine going if that matters.

Should I expect myself and my kids to be up when the ship docks?

This up to you a lot of people love to watch the ship dock from their balcony.

Or can you and do you sleep through the docking?

Everybody is different however, my wife and I get the cheers package and a lot of times get back late so we (or at least me:o) never feel us docking...haha.

will have a white noise machine going if that matters.

I have no idea what this is??????????

  6. Just got back from the Carnival Splendor for the 8 day Southern Caribbean itinerary. Loved the ship and the crew, nothing but nice things to say about the experience.

Thought I would share a few notes on how my wife and I felt we got the most out of Cheers while on board.

    A) The Steakhouse has a nice rose champagne by Heidsieck that is $20 per glass and very nice. We each had 3 glasses with dinner on embarkation day and this alone made that day a big value.

    B) Roca Patron Silver: $15 per shot at the pool bar. Incredibly smooth, goes down like water.(Also goes great stirred into a Margarita after 5 minutes ;) ) Don't forget to pace yourself !

    C) Order your favorite frozen beverage, wait 5, and ask for an additional shot of your favorite ultra premium liquor on the side to stir in since they frozen drinks can taste pretty weak.

    D) Asking for Pellegrino at the beginning of our MDR meals and request the large bottle of still water with dessert to bring back to the room or off with you in port.

    E) Hitting the coffee bar before breakfast as well as after dessert/before night activities to get some pep.

    F) We noticed that once we started tipping $1 per drink (in addition to the auto gratuity ofc) we started (1) receiving increasingly generous pours by the bartenders as the trip progressed and (2) being given priority when bars were busy with MDR waits /busy comedy club nights, etc.

Now if we could just go back...

I see you said it cost $20 per glass for the rose champagne, but is there not a limit on the drink $?? I thought you could get anything $12 and under on the cheers package?? I know other cruise lines have a cap ($) on what you can order.

  7. Its kind of hard to quote everyone here, but I do agree with all and the ones who stood their ground bravo. My wife and I are not big pool people so this part is not a huge deal to us but if we were:eek:!!! Lastly the seats we save is for us (theater, lounges ect...), and one of us is sitting there waiting for the other to get there, get drinks, bathroom break whatever the case is. Down with the HOGS!

  8. Seems odd to me to want to skip one of the main pleasures of cruising....nice dinners and impeccable service but to each his own. You only have to truly dress up on formal nights however. Regular everyday casual restaurant clothes work for any other day of the week. Buffet is great for me for quick lunches and that sort of thing, otherwise its dining room 100% of the time.

I could not agree more Calvin! Also the specialty restaurants are even more impeccable $29 more but worth it for at least one night of a 7day cruise. On my first cruise (not even one day:() we did not do the fancy MDR we did the buffet. Now that I know better I regret not doing this my first cruise. I would suggest at least doing the MDR once (preferably the first day) then you have the rest of the cruise to decide what food option is for you. In summary, don't get me wrong my wife and I do love a good buffet but why would you settle for just vanilla ice cream when you can have vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, whip cream, sprinkles, and a cherry on top.

  9. Sorry I can't help, but we sailed Oasis in 2011 and we never had a problem with waiting in line for dinner. Well I lied, we waited in line until the doors opened but other then that no waiting. In fact people don't like the big ships because of too many people on board....lines oh the long lines...... However while on Oasis we thought for as many people that was on board (full) it ran very smooth. I think RCCL did a great job.

Did you just say "90 percent of the cruisers are over 300lb's? If so that's just mean and completely untrue

Very untrue, I am a cruiser and I only weight 299 lbs (and that is after the cruise).
