  1. I'd switch with daughter and take her upgrade. They will probably be happy having some distance between the two of you (unless she is a youngster). (half joking). With the medallion, you will know where each other is. Just be sure to link (aka friend) the names.
  2. I was suppose to be on a cruise with my 2 sisters. They had to cancel. After being on a 15 day cruise with a friend, this solo b2b was just what I needed. I enjoyed the quiet time to myself. I actually met a really nice lady who also was traveling by herself (husband cancelled days before embarkation). We hit is off well and enjoyed spending some time together. You will meet others and enjoy family time. But your stateroom will be your quiet haven...unless you have a better stateroom and everyone wants to hang out with you there.
  3. I always thought they overnighted in Kahului? They did about 15 years ago. Their two overnight ports were/are Maui and Nawiliwili. They dropped Maui altogether from August 12 to the end of the month (overnighting in Hilo and an extra overnight (3 days/2 nights in Nawiliwili. No further announcements yet on changes to September itinerary. (Ref: Travel Weekly 8/11/23).
  4. Hilo is a daytime port. Ships need to come and go during natural light hours. But it would be awesome if they did an overnight AND the volcano decided to put on a show. Otherwise, the town sort of rolls up their sidewalks after dark. Given the extra hours, they could also do a run up to the Mauna Kea Observatory for a night sky option. Expensive and cold, but would be so worth it for people who do not have problems with altitude.
  5. I haven't had "coffee" on a Princess ship since the restart (except for a Latte with Suite breakfast). This must be some good coffee with all the raves. Is it on the Caribbean Princess yet? Is it served in the MDR or only the buffet? Oh, how I miss the coffee card.
  6. Resurrecting this thread. I was able to get into using the web archive link. I am not sure what happened to Tom, but his work is still valuable. https://web.archive.org/web/20200507004112/https://www.tomsportguides.com/port-guides.html Just give it time to load (looks like an error message). Just wait for it. Thank you Tom, wherever you are.
  7. I would wait for an official invoice from Princess stating a change of ports/schedule. I'd much prefer to overnight in Hilo than Honolulu. Not sure that is possible since there may not be enough berths for 2 ships to be in the harbor at the same time.
  8. Cruises have been cancelled because something has been left in the cart/unpaid after final payment. This could have been a serious issue. Glad it resolved itself. You did the right thing to be concerned @Scirocco Breeze
  9. I was in isolation in a balcony cabin. I can't imagine there would be more outlets in a mini-suite. There was a set of outlets at the desk AND an outlet behind the television. There are no USB ports on the lamps. Best to bring some kind of non-surge protected multi-device charger. There will also be European plugs by the head of the bed/night stand. You would need an adapter (not a converter) if you are using medical devices and/or Apple devices that are dual voltage. The adapter should have two outlets. One for the lamp, one for your device.
  10. Process of elimination. Not a Royal Class ship (not going to catch me on one of those). It has a round display case between the IC and Good Spirits. Don’t think it was the Caribbean. I understand that short term memory is the first to decline. It’s all a blur. I do know that I am not imagining this. I commented to a friend that these cakes reminded me of the ones they serve at Claim Jumpers. Who would want to eat the whole slice.
  11. Also excludes insurance and beverage package. They would be reimbursed for one night. Documentation is required to file a claim. If they just reported it and did not visit the Medical Center for verification, they may be out of luck.
  12. There is no reason to go past the neck of Maui. Nothing to see and do in West Maui as that side of the island rebuilds their lives. If ships return to Kahului, there will be excursions for whale watches out of Ma’alaea Harbor, Marine Center, Iao Needle, Upcountry, road to Hana, diving at Molokini Crater, Haleakala, etc. The problem I foresee is how to prevent the “curious” from entering an area that is now considered a sensitive area. I will give passengers the benefit of the doubt. Even is Princess doesn’t provide a disclaimer, most passengers have heard of the disaster and are aware there will be no tendering in Lahaina.
  13. Been on too many cruises this year. Maybe the Emerald? Grand?
  14. Now I am more confused than ever. Sigh
  15. Thank you for pointing that out. I am hoping for the best, but considering this is Princess, I am prepared for the battle. I'm generally the rose colored glaases Polly Ana, but lately have been a doubting Thomas.
  16. So where are they hiding the cakes? On the Diamond (I think), they were in the circular display case in the IC. But the Island doesn't have an IC.
  17. Recent cruise on the Caribbean Princess. I had a grand time. Nothing wrong with my cabin, my service, my enjoyment. Except: Refrigerator never worked and was looked at several (like 5 visits) times. Someone called it a "cooler" not a refrigerator. Someone else said it would have to wait until they could get the same size to replace it. Cabin down the hall could not get air conditioner to work. They had maintenance there several times. There was some issues with ac in the public areas and yet, the MDR was cold enough to require a wrap. ALL of Princess' ships can not accommodate ALL the passengers who want to go to the theater. That is a function of the size of the ship AND corporate. Too many for too small a theater. Same with tender ports. You can only transport so many passengers at a time. The ship is crowded on sea days...no where to go. Music way too loud. On the bright side. ALL elevators were operational. ALL stores were empty of buyers. Scones could be found in the buffet if you didn't want to do TEA TIME. Pub lunch was served in the MDR. Crew was terrific. Everyone had a smile and were friendly. Room service was prompt...if you could get through on the phone. I have cruise other lines and prefer Princess for the comfort of knowing my way around and ease of getting to San Pedro. It will take a terrific itinerary for a reasonable fare for me to jump ship. As I age, the ship is the destination.
  18. The key phrase here is that your parent did not need wheelchair assistance (as similar to OP). For those who need wheelchair assistance (provided by Princess/San Pedro Cruise Terminal), you are sent to a location OUTSIDE the elite/suite lounge. We were late getting to the port and missed priority boarding. We had to wait downstairs for over an hour before getting a wheelchair to take us through security. THEN another hour for Princess to pick us up and take us aboard. My friend decided that she would walk slowly with her cane and we boarded immediately since I was Elite. I am glad to hear that this has worked out for you and your parents. It may have been different if we had shown up at the port at 10 AM, but I doubt it.
  19. My guess: If one passenger has package and one does not, they will not allow sharing and proceed to charge no package guest. If both passengers don't have a package, I would guess that they would allow sharing since it is being bought and paid for. Still think Princess opened a can of worms (Pandora's Box) with their changes. Unhappy passengers, more complaints to Customer Service, not good PR, etc.
  20. Airplane Mode: Yes Wifi Calling enabled: Yes Connected to Medallion Net: Yes If the call does not go through...try again. Sometime my Verizon says service isn't available, but when I try again, it works. Go figure. It also works with Google Voice (that uses your cell number). Haven't tried What's App, but others have said it works. FaceTime works iMessages works without Medallion Net; but will use the INTRAnet onboard (most times). Most recent experience: Caribbean Princess sailing in Canada waters to make a call to Honolulu and California. Worked well.
  21. That will keep your fingers off the plant. Really??? Guess it is good for those who have allergies. No Thank You.
  22. This must be specific to this port. Not my experience in other ports. Glad to hear that there is wheelchair service in the elite section. And yes, if you have your own device, you will not need assistance.
  23. No orchid plant (not even a plastic replacement...ugh), but I did get a lovely floral bouquet. Surprised me! No flowers in the bathroom.
  24. Thanks @SCX22. I would be holding up a long line if they asked me to show them my entire Medallion since it is inside a silicon holder slipped over my watch band. Imagine trying to do this with arthritic fingers and balance issues. Ha Ha. Maybe I just have an honest face? (aka Sheldon Cooper)
