The refit would be a good chance to ban smoking in the Chruchill's and find some new use for that room. The constant reek of cigar smoke makes half of the CC an unpleasant place to be, and here speaks an ex-smoker  Shame about the loss of glass lifts, they were handy when going from steerage cabins on Deck 8 to Britannia.
Well, that's what it had been established for ... I don't smoke cigars, but I like the smell - it reminds me of my grandfather.

The reason might be that Cunard is registered in the UK as a PLC (Public Limited Company).
Is it not possible for UK nationals to book cruises via a TA in the US?
If there is no website access, there are still other ways of communication.
Good luck!

Many thanks for the well-described report of your visit to the Kennedy Space Center, Roy from Maryland! I found it very interesting and informative to read, the more so as I have not been there for years.
Bon voyage while you continue. I hope that the severe weather conditions that have been announced for the East Coast, I'm not sure about Florida, keep out of your way.
:)

To bring this interesting subject and all the speculations to an end, I suggest to ask the VIP himself.

A beautiful picture of our beautiful ship, thank you!
I was booked on this voyage, but ..... Hope she goes around Cape Hoorn in 2018. Meantime I'm waiting, waiting ...

Thanks for the laughter, Gill, and have a fantastic cruise!

I like your war of thinking :D
OMG Gill,
There are so many wars in this world, do you really need mine as well ;)

I agree, it's a hard decision! However, in my opinion, the pro would be a renovated QM2 where you would celebrate your Ruby Anniversary, and this over Christmas and the New Year AND see the beautiful Caribbean islands.
You could celebrate your anniversary with you family after your return from this great voyage.
The other alternative (for me) would not be one, since I already know San Francisco and the Panama canal, which I enjoyed very much.
Really not an easy decision to be taken!
So I suggest to do both, one in 2017 and the next in 2018 ...

Greetings to Thornbury!
-
This is exactly what came to my mind when we entered New York harbor on my first crossing. All those people who fled from hunger and misery, searching a better life, when they were greeted by Lady Liberty, how must they have felt? Who could ever forget it?

But if disruption is inevitable, passengers need to be so advised prior to booking, in my opinion.
Happy sails,
Salacia
I am sure Cunard will do so and I think one can expect some price reduction.
-
Oh, I would definitely prefer the newly decorated cabins to the old ones!
-
Thanks for your comments, Pepper. As always, very useful. Since I do not sail any other ship anymore than the QM2, I hope all this is going to be handled in the smooth and effective way that I know Cunard for. It would be ideal to have a precise plan, date by date, of what is going to be done, where and when, and all this before booking :D ..., but wait and see and lets hope for the best.

I believe that not only the shoe will drop, but also the number of passengers ...

A pleasure :)

So beautifully written, I enjoyed reading your reports. Thank you!

My TA quotes higher prices for after the refit
-
There was a reason I didn't add a both option ! Go on, humour me, pick one !!
So I voted for cruising, but the ideal would have been a crossing and then a cruising!

I'm liking the sound of the Winter Garden being changed to a proper bar/small entertainment area.
... and another bar ...
-
You could remove the Winter Garden for all Cunard ships because you hardly ever see anyone it in. It's always struck me as useless space and I'm surprised they bother to keep it.
Why remove it? I think it's a pretty little place and not useless at all; I often saw passengers sitting there, reading, having tea etc., especially when the weather didn't permit it to be outside. One day I attended a Stradivari concert :) and another time a lecture on beauty treatments ....

After a break from cruising and taking holidays on land we have just booked a trip on the Queen Victoria. We love Cunard and after having done three QM2 voyages I fancied trying another Queen. My husband is ever so slightly sceptical as he loves the QM2 and her stability in the water
I have done lots of research and obviously found out the basic things such as deck layouts etc but I am interested to know what people have found better/worse on the two ships and which they prefer ........
The main difference between QM2 and QV is the stability, and in this respect QM2 is definitely to be preferred. I have done many transatlantics with her and only one with QV, but would not take her for again for this purpose. Not to be misunderstood: She did it well, but 3 days and 2 nights of stormy weather do not justify taking the (over-) decorated QV for a transatlantic, but it depends on where you want to go ...
-
I don't think so, because the number of single cabins would be insufficient. Also, when looking at my TA's offers, most of the time they quote prices for single use cabins.

Whilst I am sure it is nice to go home with clean clothes I can find much better things to do on board than a pile of washing at the end of a voyage....
I agree. Apart from that there is another reason for me trying not to go there, since I don't like the atmosphere, not always, but most of the time: You can see acting some 'typical' housewives in full swing .... :D
Why the QM2 makes me feel safe

Yes, it can happen to QM2 as well, but she can handle it better.
