  1. We have an eastbound crossing booked for November but when I read other peoples' reviews I get almost insanely jealous that I'm not on board now :o

Please tell me I'm not alone in this terrible condition. I have 16 weeks before we sail, how do I cope; I really need help :D

No, you are not alone! I went through this after I had tried in vain, back in 2011, to book the missing segment from Cape Town to Sydney to make it a complete world cruise. There was no TA on the continent that I did not contact ;).... I have been counting down continuously for months!

Anyway, I had to stay in Cape Town (yes, I know, there are worse places in the world to stay) to finally see, from my hotel room's window and by coincidence, how my one and only ship left the port ... In addition to this, she was blowing the horn!

You should feel better now ...

  2. I wasn't talking about "any" ship but the specific ship on a specific cruise! I have been talking to a number of first-time passengers and all said that it wasn't worth the money. Also why don't you read another review (other than mine) about that specific cruise?

If I had been in charge of the organisation of that mini-cruise I would have made my ship shine for the three or four days because those who were first-time cruisers on a short voyage will come back - IF THEY REALLY LIKED what they have seen.

Sorry that you did not understand what I meant to say.

I know what your review is like and those of others as well, even without having read them.

Special offers always imply the risk of being disappointing - I never take them.

  3. ... about our 3 day mini-cruise on QE.

It could have been a chance for Cunard to find new returning customers. Unfortunately they missed this opportunity.

Basically it was the most expensive afternoon tea I've ever had.

Well, I find it hard to believe that any of the Cunard ships will not have new returning customers .....

  4. I suppose it depends on what has to be done and recommend to ask the purser's desk and/or the cabin steward for help. To be on the safe side it may be better to deal with it before your cruise.

  5. I'm on same ship same time but not having a good time. After traveling non stop for over 100days boarded ,asked my room steward to not disturb me for at least two days. His reply against the rules, must ck at least every 24 hours when asked why he's just smiled. After two days looked around .i know why this ship is a floating cementary with the corpses standing upright.service fine but don't know where they are going to find replacement cruisers. The casino only has .25 cent slots a few 1.00 and 5 @5 the food is bland and before you go nuts this isn't a dis but want some of the kook aid they're drinking

Wouldn't Las Vegas be THE place for you?

  6. Hi, I have recently booked my first solo TA, and I cant wait!

One thing I noticed is your mention of having to work, if you are thinking of phones, Internet etc, please bear in mind this is a) expensive and b) SLOW when so far from land. Comms will be satellite based, and patchy on a crossing. There is lots of info ( and frustration) in these threads on this subject!

It's not as bad as you describe it, at least in my experience and on QM2. Altogether I have been many months on her. Anyway, there is always staff available to help.

  7. Yes, do it by all means, it is great! I have done many transatlantics as a solo traveller and can't wait for my next one, but don't forget that it also depends a little bit on you yourself. You will be surprised how many nice, open-minded and interesting people you will find onboard.

One hint for the beginning: There is an "open" table for lunch in the main dining room where you could go to make contacts. Courage, please!

    Cats2010 :)

  8. I changed in New York from QV to QM2 in January 2011 and it worked well. Cunard provided a bus who took us to Red Hook. :) and in the evening all three Queens were cruising, and fireworks ... unforgettable! :)

  9. I too try to avoid ringing if possible. However, I did ring Cunard this Saturday morning and it was fine.

The best would be to speak to them in person and not leave before you got what you want, but this is not always possible .... I am lucky to be in excellent terms with my TA, and this only via email :)

  10. Called the Call Centre at 0820 today to book a holiday. Made the mistake of asking which London airport I would be returning to so that I could book an onward flight. Jade tried to make contact with the Airline Department but told me that they did not open until 0830. She assured me that she would phone me back and I also supplied my email address.

Later this morning I again phoned the Call centre and informed a male of my issue - he assured me he would speak to Jade, who was unavailable at this time, and I would hear from her forthwith.

At 1430 again called the call centre and spoke with a Supervisor and informed him I was unhappy that I had not been updated in order that I could book the holiday with them. Unacceptable said he I will pursue this and call you back today.

No prizes for guessing that I am still waiting for a reply. It seems business must be brisk and they can afford to lose custom.

Anyone have an email address where I can lodge a formal complaint?

Anyone wish to suggest why I should pursue a "voyage" with Cunard if this is the standard of their customer service?

Usually, any call centers' service is not satisfactory, so I try to avoid them. Normally they are outsourced, so there is no real motivation.

If not possible, I ask for the name of the person I sphoke to if she has promised to call back. Another possibility is using emails with an acknowledgement of receipt function.

    Good luck!

  11.

On Celebrity, where they have never had trays during the time that we have cruised with them, if a single person leaves a drink and cutlery on a table to signify that it is occupied, the waiting staff have been known to clear it away before they are able to get back to it with their food.

    Yes, I remember :D
