The scope of the refit, in terms of cabins, seems ambitious to me given the time frame.
Remember the QE2 1994 refit, Cunard!
I don't know what happened in 1994 nor do I know Cunard's contracts with Blohm + Voss, but what I know is that shipyards and others, too, have to pay considerable penalties if schedules are not kept. Don't think there is reason to be worried.

Tomorrow (Friday 11 March 2016), we will be boarding the Queen Mary 2 from Sydney to Singapore :D.
While we stay in Australia waters and cell phone coverage, I am going to try and post a few updates plus images, but once we leave Australia waters I don't know what the internet will be like on the QM2, so updates maybe only if I can find free wifi or if I can access here from the QM2.
I am starting this thread today, so to save time latter on if I can post...
Hi Kiwi Cruiser,
I still remember when QM2 and I were leaving Sydney harbour and had a last look at the opera and the people waving us good-bye :)
Have a wonderful journey and look forward with pleasure to read from you!

I passed her on a ferry this morning in Circular Quay. To my dismay, someone was standing on the balcony of my suite!
I really need to get around to finishing my Jan TA review. Haven't stopped since I got back from my trip. Crazy year - already 3 months in!
It's funny how she becomes a second home after a while when you think to yourself "Who dares to take possession of my ship!"
-
I got off today. Just watched her sail out of Sydney Harbour without me after 168 days :-(
I know how it feels, but 168 days are enough anyway :D!

A thread has just been started in the Australia & New Zealand forum.
Great that you posted this link, thanks OzKiwiJJ!

Thank you for sharing this, and too blue or not too blue - I wish I was there!

I don't use these programs nor do I use automatic translations. What comes out is wrong most of the time and often good for a laugh :D.
Still, the real question had not yet been answered .

Maybe you ghetto play captain for the day at thaT price.
What does this mean? Please explain .
-
:D Not quite that impressive, but the other day I saw an offer on a TA's website for a 22 days' cruise, in April 2016, on the "old" QM2 and from Dubai to London. The price was the same: USD 17,998.00 for a single balcony cabin or a suite. No explanation from the TA ...
I wonder what happened there. :D

Alternatively, all three Queens should visit Sydney on the same day.
Yes, and before visiting Sydney (which I support wholeheartedly), QM2 could easily do part of South America including Cape Hoorn ... ;)
-
It's always better to check, of course, but I don't leave unmentioned that I never had any vaccination on my world cruises. It also depends on your specific condition, and it's better to check.

Thanks and congratulations. I think we can forget about it .

"Cunard going all inclusive, all ships, all classes?"
Well, I would prefer to have it confirmed by Cunard.
-
My pleasure, jimmybean, and oh, you did it :)! It must be unforgettable!
It is true that she should cruise the Hoorn more often, but maybe she will do it again during her 2018 world cruise??
I am thinking of doing an opinion poll to collect voices ... :D

Thank you, Oslofjord, for your notes and yes, this must have been an extraordinary voyage and I hope QM2 will do it again, no matter what the weather will be like. Here on the European continent we have it cold again and snow is forecasted for the end of this week.
Many happy sailings
and regards

To offload medical emergency passenger. Costa Luminosa  is there and we will be using her tenders to disembark the passenger.
Thank you for the news, Navaleye, although it's bad ones, but at least we know where she is (no precise information available here) and how everything is going. It would be so nice to hear more from and about QM2 (I was booked, but ...) and hope everything is going well with you and the passenger and that he may have proper treatment.
Greetings,

Once again' date=' I must agree with Pepper: " QM2 every time, no question."
[/quote]
Absolutely so, and without being an engineer, a captain or an expert I think that one cannot compare these two ships at all, since they have been constructed for different purposes.
On the other hand, QM2 can be used as a cruise ship, while a cruise ship can be used for transatlantics as well, but ....

A glacier. There it is!
Many thanks :)
-
Thank you for the picture, Blue Ribbon Cruiser Ray! A nice view and the sea is calm. I wonder whether it was the same when she cruised Cape Hoorn ... probably not. What an adventure :)!
-
I can't wait, and others too, until we all know what we have been missing. I was booked, but ... ....
Who can help?
Many thanks and enjoy this fantastic cruise!

Thanks for the support, Host Hattie and OK, jimmybean, I am ready to share her with you if this helps ;). Today she is approaching the Amalia glacier if the calculations are correct. It's an expedition-like cruise, she has done it before. It must be very fascinating and .
-
I wish there was somebody aboard QM2 now who could tell us over here how my ship is doing while she cruises South America and Cape Hoorn as part of her fantastic World Voyage 2016 ... :)
That would be great!

Do you have specific rooms booked or have you booked guarantee rooms? Cunard say insides and BY categories will be refurbished next year.
Queen Mary 2 will be refurbishing the following grades in 2016 dry dock:
• All Grills Suites
• All Britannia Club balconies on Deck 12
• All Britannia Balconies on Deck 12, Deck 11 and Deck 8
• All Britannia Obstructed Balconies on Deck 8
• BU/BV Grades of Britannia Sheltered balconies on Deck 6
Queen Mary 2 will be refurbishing the following staterooms in service over 2017:
• Remaining BZ/BY Grades of Britannia Sheltered Balconies on Deck 6
• All Britannia sheltered balconies on Deck 4 and Deck 5
• All Britannia Ocean Views
• All Britannia Atrium Views
• All Britannia Insides
This is very useful information - thank you so much! :)

... and today she is cruising the Beagle channel! Hope she does it again in 2018 :)

Yes, they say they WOULD avoid, which does not mean that they actually do.
I don't see a problem for you though, and knowing Cunard for many years I am sure that they would grant discounts if the ship should not be as agreed upon. By the way, I consider to book the TA from Hamburg, after her renewal.
:)
