  1. Keep in mind banks in Spain are authorized to charge ATM transaction fee in addition to any fees your bank changes. I've been charged between 3 to 7 euros. I minimize my ATM withdrawals in Spain.
  2. Are you sure you didn't prebook a tour? While it was under discussion for some time, it wasn't until March of this year the Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano introduced the requirement for admission tickets. This requirement went into effect 3 July 2023. Prior to that you could book a tour, however a ticket for admission wasn't required. 5€ fee for tourists, free for Rome residents, worshippers, and those under 18 In March 2023, Culture Minister for a 5€ entry fee to this stunning monument.
  3. As they just started selling tickets to the Pantheon in July, no established history. It shouldn’t be as bad as this summer hopefully.
  4. Not what you asked about the strike, but this time is a little tight. Why not fly directly into Venice?
  5. Civi is really easy. Everyone goes thru the same door, stop and pick up luggage if they have, and just walk on out. No customs! If this is a port day, then I too would be getting off as early as possible. One day in Rome is not enough - use every minute.
  6. If you go back and read the entire thread, you'll see there was some confusion between an iron for clothing or hair. All straightened out (yes, pun intended). Clothing iron - No. Hair iron (or straightener) - Yes.
  7. My experience is they waive over the next in line and keep doing so until someone shows up in the line they're originally designated. Done around the world - very easy.
  8. While getting way off topic, let's just be honest - airports (for the most part) are set up for its residents. This picture could be substituted for just about any airport, ANYWHERE in the world. What I get upset is when the agents don't wave over passengers from busy lines when there's no one in theirs!☹️
  9. I'm thinking the OP doesn't want the alcoholic package, and just didn't know where to go for options.
  10. I travel with a supply of rubbing alcohol wipes (each individually packaged), and never had a problem; however, I would think there'd be a problem with a bottle. No firsthand experience though.
  11. What you have going in your favor is not all are disembarking so the trains shouldn't be filled to the top with luggage.🤞 You haven't mentioned your plans, but I'm going to guess your plan is to head into Rome for a few days. Yes? No? If yes, as much as you want to get into Rome early sit down, do breakfast, relax and let those self-disembarking individuals who have a much too early plane or tour scheduled have full access to the gangway. Sometime around 9:00 head off ship - there will still be way too much pushing and shoving for my taste. What Hank is politely saying in "DW and I always start out with the idea of using the Port shuttle. When that fails, our Plan B has been to walk out of the port to the train station (we are good walkers and can easily handle the distance)" is when you get to the port shuttle there's no lines (think free-for-all chaos), buses may be slow, and when a bus does show up people only get "pushier" (remember the no line?). And while the bus may appear to be empty of people when it pulls away it's packed with luggage. As I travel with a roll-on bag the walk to the station sometimes is very appealing. As already mentioned, you don't need to prebook the train. By arriving at the train station after 9:00 the commuter situation has abated, and you just might find a place for your luggage and a place to sit. Can't say the same for the 8:00 passengers.

  13. Yes, this is the company I used - instead of booking for two I booked for three as you'll get a mini-van which I felt would be a better solution as my husband also travels with a collapsible motorized wheelchair. The price difference was minimal as I didn't have to pay for extra luggage. We used them in June going into Rome, and then in July going to the port.
  14. Yes, some do. There's currently another thread on the subject. Fortunately, we've never had that much "stuff" to wash.
  15. The thing is the "next flight" three days later is probably already booked near capacity - you will not bump the people on that flight! Instead you will be worked into available seats and that could take days. Take the advice here and contact the airlines to check out your options. Avios will be (should) be pro-active as they know the nightmare they'll have if this strike occurs. You really need to start a backup plan now.
  16. A quick Google search brings up Mediamarkt with several locations in Athens. https://www.mediamarkt.gr/search-bucket/mm-personal-care-summer-sales-170723 As mentioned, larger supermarkets will also have, and larger pharmacies.
  17. Yep, for shoes I have the pair I'm wearing and then one more packed. But normally only one pair comes home (especially if I'm heading to Italy - where you must buy new shoes.🤪) I can't attest to how true, but the individual who told me this story swore it was true. It seems on a cruise he noticed his neighbor checking into the next-door cabin, and all he had was a draw string mesh bag. As the cruise went on, he noticed it appeared his neighbor always had the same clothes on. They had adjoining balconies, and one afternoon his curiosity finally won out, and he asked the guy about his "luggage". The guy's travel plan consisted of taking the set of clothes he had on, and one identical set (plus travel size toiletries). At the end of the day, he'd shower then take that day's dirty clothes, put them in the mesh bag and do a dunk wash in the bathtub. Hang them up to dry and wear the clean set the next day! During summer months his wardrobe consisted of tee shirts and shorts, and in winter long sleeve shirts and jeans. His "luxury" item was a swimsuit! Now this would be extreme packing! 😁
  18. This! I also never pack directly to my suitcase - I lay it all out first and then start whittling it down. In December I have a TA and will only take either leggings/skirts (a total of three) and three shirts (all color matching) and one dress plus a "fancy" shirt for dinner. It doesn't sound like much for a twenty day trip, but it works. The ships laundry has a 24-hour turnaround. For delicates I hand wash them out (I take a couple of laundry detergent sheets), as all laundry turned in goes into the large washers on-board. Then I never take full size toiletries, plus unless you absolutely have to have certain brands, I depend upon the ships shampoo, soap, etc. If you do have certain brands bring bottles/tubes that are almost empty - then don't bring them home! Rely upon the ship's blow dryer too. When you get home do an inventory as you unpack your suitcase to determine what, if anything, you never used. (Then don't pack it next time!) 😄
  19. If I’m printing, and don’t have stock paper, I “laminate” with clear packing tape.
  20. Getting there is easy and a taxi stand is next to the Pantheon, so probably about 350-400 feet from your hotel. Taxi will be around 10 to 15€ depending upon traffic and if you’re going to the museum or St Peters. Or have your hotel call you a taxi. Keep in mind the fare begins when the taxi is dispatched, not when it picks you up in this scenario. Recommend you go to google maps and check out where the taxi stands are at the Vatican to get back. There are several. I know the one directly in front of St Peters was closed this summer (the whole roadway was closed).
  21. I haven't been on the Viva, and only watched the video, but it appears the two-bedroom family suites are going from one bedroom being a bat caves to two bedrooms being bat caves. I'm sure the plan was to make the two bedrooms more equitable if sharing with another couple, but I'm not impressed. It's a shame as the two-bedroom suites are a favorite of mine.
  22. Just for clarification - when you say flat iron you mean a hair straightener, yes? Not a clothing iron? (I think there's a little miscommunication here as the flat iron prohibited is under laundry. I know traditionally irons for laundry are also referred to as flat irons.) If it's for hair, you should have no problem. As you'll have time, and I hope many more opportunities to use, I highly recommend buying the products locally. As already mentioned, with a dual voltage it will work, but not as good as you're used to. In the event you use your current product, you'll need an adapter and converter, but even then, you may still blow it up. (Read the fine print on the converter and it will normally tell you, "Not recommended".) I purchased a 220-voltage hair dryer and flat iron years ago when I was staying for an extended land trip, and its one less thing I have to worry about. Plus, the whole extended family knows about them, and are often borrowed.
  23. Supposedly it’s NCL policy for all food to be “delivered “. Part of the butlers job is to pick up anything you’re taking back to your suite.
  24. Posh, also sometimes referred to as Vibe, is adult only. On our cruise this summer it had very few people using it. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a hot tub or shower (there is a shower outside the area you can access), but there is a bar and lots of space. Additionally, the Haven's smoking area is also on the upper deck - I never saw anyone using. You can access thru the stairway going up to the gym or the elevator at the Haven bar (elevator goes up to Posh or down to swimming pool.
