  1. Yes! It was the RSSC Diamond. It was in the Greek Islands and billed as a see Venus cruise. Over 50% of the passengers were astronomy buffs.
  2. Does anyone remember a Regent ship that was a catamaran ( 350 passengers). We sailed on her maybe 29 years ago before she was sold as a gambling ship in Hong Kong. It’s driving us crazy!
  3. We are getting off the Connie tomorrow in Ravenna and taking a car service / water taxi to our hotel in Venice. We are taking a water taxi the next morning to the airport. It is 20 minutes and the most direct way to get to the airport even though it is 130Euros. We are elderly. Has anyone found porters at the pier to help get the luggage to departure ( Delta terminal one)? I think it is a ten minute complicated trip with walkways and elevators. Ugg
  4. We were dropped right in front of our terminal. But the driver was a little confused and we had to encourage him. For instance, he got behind a long line of taxis who were there to pick up paddy not drop off. So as New Yorkers we showed him that he could go around.
  5. We are on the Celebrity constellation. Cruise started in Athens 8 days ago. We took a taxi to the cruise port from our hotel. The driver was adamant that we tell him the berthe. It was in our cruise documents booklet. Ours was E12. I know this wasn’t NCL but I hope it was helpful. We stayed at the Marriott Athens only 20 minutes from the port but not a good location for walking around Athens.
  6. I feel many of the problems were due to not being in the Haven proper. And if you don’t want kids clogging the pool don’t go on school vacations. First lunch is always a problem because everyone wants to eat there at the same time. We have cruised both in and out of the Haven on the Gem, Getaway, Breakaway, Bliss, Joy and next February we have our favorite the Encore Haven two bedroom family suite for NY winter break ( Miami). We just got off the Celebrity Edge in March in a Royal Suite and I’d rather be in the Haven. Surf and Surf and shrimp cocktail no comparison. And we love the entertainment on NCL too.
  7. We are currently on the Constellation in Greece with a family group of six. Definitely arrange for your dining table in advance. We have fixed dining , our own round table at 6:00 every night. Same servers. I’m booked through the casino and they did it at booking but I’m sure you can CALL and get it planned out that way. Why worry if it can be set up now.
  8. We are currently on the Constellation in Greece. Service is excellent, food in MDR very good to excellent. Concierge cabin shabby. Phone broken, shower head drooping ( needed *****) had to be repaired. Toilet made loud noises continuously then stopped. Sofa dirty and broken. Got off Edge in March and even though that was a new ship I think I like this one better. But it really needs sprucing up.
  9. You will have a wonderful time. I have been on that ship in the penthouse ( what a treat). The beds and bedding are marvelous. You have a great attitude. We are boarding today ( Celebrity Constellation) in Athens with my family. We have three concierge cabins on an old smaller ship. We will have a great time as it stops in Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes and Ephesus. But never fear, we are on the NCL Encore in February in a two room suite in the Haven with my daughter and grandkids for NY winter break.
  10. Thanks. Not the answer I was hoping for. I guess that was part of the never done revolution. Boarding on Saturday ( Athens).
  11. Does anyone know if the concierge cabins on the Constellation have a door or curtain in the shower? First time on this ship. Thanks
  12. We were lucky to be in a RS on the Edge in March. In January we were in a Celebrity suite. We are done with the Edge. We just don’t like Luminae. On the Reflection we ordered many dinners off the MDR menu. And why do t they print the always available on the Luminae menu. It was like pulling teeth. On the March cruise we ate ( because it was included with a RS every possible meal in a specialty restaurant. Eden, the Petite Chef, Raw on Five and lunch in the Bistro were all great. We are back to the Constellation this Saturday in Greece and next January on the Silhouette.
  13. I ate the $60 one by myself (twice) the oysters were the best I ever had. We were I. A RS ( one and done) and we ate at specialty restaurants for every meal that we could. We dislike the Edge and Luminae. We liked Eden a lot and loved Raw on Five.
  14. You will get pretty gold Haven tags in the mail. We always reserve all our shows in the Haven waiting lounge at the pier shortly before boarding ( with an assistant concierge who passes out listings and times of all the shows):
  15. I highly recommend the seafood tower at Raw on Five instead
  16. We really don’t drink much so we don’t get the beverage package. That is huge savings. If we get one specialty coffee or a Diet Coke that’s it. We call and get the WiFi with our Elite+ 35% off. We pay the gratuities at the end and tip extra in cash if warranted. It works out better for us. Not such a big hit all at once.
  17. Definitely go to Taormina instead of staying in Messina. No comparison. If you do Taormina on your own without a tour don’t miss the amphitheater. It is remarkable. And the gardens and eat a horn shaped cream filled pastry.
  18. Captains Club points do not expire. My daughter in law cruised with her family 20 years again and now we are taking her on the Constellation. Her number came right up.
  19. Call as soon as they open. Plug in your phone and just be prepared to wait. You’ll get it straightened out.
  20. Remember that if you are using Elite minutes they go quickly and you have to log on and log off, a real pain. Celebrity will couple the current sale and a loyalty discount 30%? I think , if you call . I would definitely do it in advance. You have to call to get the deal. We just did it for the constellation ( Elite+) and it was a substantial savings.
  21. This happened to me too! They have a terrible system. I booked thru casino and paid in full. A month later I saw that the. Ed configuration was wrong. That’s all it took to drop some of my perks( offers). I panicked. I called and was on hold a long time. They fixed it and said they never cancel your cruise but you have to call to get it fixed. Or pay additional unwarranted amounts! Crazy stuff. Never happens to me on Princess or NCL
  22. The best sticky buns in the world are at The Corner Room in State College, PA ( Penn State) Go State!
  23. You will have lots of options if you let the head waiter in Luminae know ahead of time. You will not go hungry.
  24. We have been on five Oceania ships from the smallest 650 passengers to the 1200 Riviera. Every stateroom no matter how large should be compared to Celebrity Retreat. On Celebrity, we have sailed in veranda cabins, concierge, basic retreat cabins, celebrity suites and once a Royal suite on the Edge. The food on Oceania ship wide is as good as Luminae if not better. The free included specialty restaurants on Oceania are far better than any specialty restaurant on Celebrity except for the seafood tower on Raw on Five. The lack of crowds , never fighting for a lounge ( and we were desperate in the retreat on the Edge to find a lounge chair in the shade after paying a fortune for a aRoyal suite) means that Oceania is not really comparable by price alone. We cruise both lines for different reasons. I like Celebrity’s bigger casino and more varied entertainment. Both ships have little or no smoking. Both have great service. One is a very nice mainstream line and one is a premium line.
  25. You might be charged. While sitting in the lounge area adjacent to the Haven bar ,I often would be asked if I wanted a drink. I’d ask for a diet coke and never be charged ( no drink package) but would always tip a few bucks for the service.
