  1. There was no financial offering made to anyone on The Edge. If we left the ship all onward arrangements were our own. That is how it remains. And as you point out, JetBlue had issues about his placement for Quarantine. He asked why some passengers were able to stay in balcony cabins etc and was told that there was not a fleet wide policy. They must not have had to deal with the worries about getting home etc. But keep posting your truths from the comfort of home. Thanks .
  2. Well, go back a few pages. The poster JetBlue stated that he was told by a Celebrity official that each ship is independent. His was the beginning of the Covid Transatlantic disasters. We sailed on April 22. So much for the grandfathering. Italy decided our fate.
  3. It is truly pointless to even try to explain the reality of this situation to those of you who think that our reality is incorrect. we are in Santorini today, so that is Greece, except we have to follow Italys rules. Celebrity sent out a directive on how they were going to respond to Covid on April 22. That was the day we boarded. None of us got that memo. So good luck to all of you who know better. Your kindness will come back to you one hundredfold. I am done. Talk amongst yourselves.
  4. Very interesting. So to all of you vultures who have stated we should have known better etc, I accept your apology. This was dated April 22.2022. That was the day the Edge set sail. it is interesting that each ship has different policies as to remaining on board Etc. that makes things more confusing for those of us caught in the mess, but not for those prescient ones who have all the answers before the questions are prepared.
  5. They keep you on until the final port. I just had a visit from the Nurse to remove an IV line. She reiterated that the situation had changed so rapidly that nobody had any idea what was going to happen. The previous Edge passengers who tested positive for Covid did so after they disembarked. And the Edge was lucky, the Odyssey had 300 persons in Covid lockdown at the end of that Transatlantic And to Bo, No, I did not spend my days on Cruise Critic prior to this last cruise. We had other things to deal with, which are nobody's business other than our own. When we departed there were very few other Transatlantic that had gone ahead of us. Until I started reading JETBLUE's account I had no idea as to the severity of the situation. That some of you think that you would have prevented this happening to you because you know better, I wish you the best of luck. There were constant posts about how they were able to prevent getting covid. And I brought my own hand made anti viral spray and cloths to disinfect every square inch of the suite. And I had a special spray to disinfect my masks when returned to the Suite. And I used the Hand sanitizer along with a cloth in the Luminae to clean the salt and pepper shakers as soon as I noticed that of all items on the table, these were never changed between guests. So despite these precautions, we still got Covid. If you read various cruising posts all over there are those whose luggage got lost: When they post that they get the response: "We always pack a set of formal wear, casual wear, and swim wear for each of us in each of our carryon bags." In other words, these people should have anticipated losing their suitcases. .Where they get room for the Miss February 28 days of underwear, fruit and nut snacks in case of quarantine, back up medications in case they are stranded with covid 19, is anyone's guess. Oh and books, downloaded to the Kindle that might have also gotten lost, because who worries about losing a Kindle these days? I did remember to put the George Forman grill back in the garage before we departed because I decided that I probably was not going to do my normal amount of fishing off the aft balcony while we were on a Transatlantic. I also left the blender in the kitchen because we had the Premier Drinks package. I regret that now because I did not realize how badly I would need non stop Margaritas what with this Covid Quarantine . If you think that you can outrun this, I am happy for you. We live in Florida. We were quite comfortable mixing with others over the past two years and did not develop even a runny nose. We are vaxxed and boosted. We did what we were supposed to do, according to the Public Health authorities. But not enough. The one thing I can state is that eating ones own words is rather distasteful. For all those who suggest we should have known better, I will be watching this space with great intensity . What else do I have to do? It is not like I have photos to catalog. v
  6. After May 1, Celebrity no longer offered to pay for shoreside accommodations, transportation or meals. That was the reason for our decision to stay onboard. And now my husband is in Day 16 of Quarantine (he chose to remain with me instead of going back to a Suite) and I am in Day 8 as I failed the test on Day 7. We are in Italy and the rules that were sent to us on April 30 th were no longer the same. At that point it was test on Day 5 and 6. Then things changed again on May 3. And again on May 9. And for all of the very brilliant people who suggest we should have known this was going to happen, take your condescension and hold on to it until you find yourself in an unexpected situation that you had no control over.
  7. Thank you for your empathy. Obviously you make intelligent decisions and are totally prepared for every possible Governmental change that might occur while you are in the middle of whatever you chose to do. What is your backup plan for lost luggage?
  8. We are not able to leave. The entrance to the Quarantine area is clearly marked and it requires a special mechanism to open this. I only know this because when I was taken to the Medical center yesterday it was extremely strict. The nurse who accompanied me kept looking around to make sure that I was following closely and not touching anything. When I was in pre-Quarantine, (ie: myhusband had tested positive and was already in Quarantine) I was not permitted to eat anywhere on the ship other than in my suite. And I was not permitted to collect food or drink anywhere else. I had to order room service. So, I have eaten in Luminae for two breakfasts and one Dinner since April 30. There should be dining height tables made available to those who are forced to eat tepid, late food on their laps.
  9. Fortunately I was seen this afternoon. I had blood work done and intravenous medications given. I think that the entire Covid situation has overwhelmed the cruiselines. They really do not have a clue what to do about any of it. And, you are correct, the average Cruise ship doctor has little knowledge of how to handle the big picture things, Perhaps give out bandaids, Tylenol, and the occasional seasickness pill. |Some cruise lines have dedicated Medical personnel. Cunard does, and they are much more prepared to handle the bigger things. And were I reading this thread, I would have canceled our cruise to the Med this year as well. Thanks. Thank you so much for your concern. It is truly appreciated.
  10. PERhaps the contingency plan was not put in place because as we have stated, the rules changed. Ask anyone who took the Edge Transatlantic on April 22. I have three different sets of information sent to my stateroom regarding testing positive on the sailing. The rules changed three times . Tell us how we might have anticipated any of this. For those who are not in Italy, the rules are different . The only effective contingency plan that I can think of is to cancel before you even set sail. On our ship today it was announced that there is one passenger positive for covid. That is because the count starts at the beginning of each cruise. There is no mention of those of us who are in the Quarantine section. When we embarked we were buoyed into a confidence every morning when the Captain would state that there were no cases of Covid onboard among the passengers. Of course there were not. We had all just boarded and the passengers on the prior 5 day cruise were long gone before the infection showed up in them. And on Day 6 the reports started. You can plan all you want but lets just hope that the rules do not change again.
  11. EXACTLY, but how about the cruise lines ignore those facts? I am becoming more and more angry. BUT the thing I want to say on this thread is this: How about everyone of you who wants to hijack the thread by debating the merits of the Covid reaction, take your opinions elsewhere. There are many fellow cruisers trying desperately to get home to the USA. How about we focus our attention back on that Those of us trying to return were all on Transatlantic that left the USA in the Month of April. And I just got the call that I am still testing positive. I am devastated.
  12. For anyone who wants to simply tell me that they are smarter and healthier and just all around better than me, please move along. This is for the rest . On May 2, I presented to the Medical Department because of severe pain in my mid back and what felt like swelling under my left ribs. I was charged, paid for medications at the Highway Robbery rate and sent on my way. Because I was in a Suite and my husband was already in Quarantine I was regularly soaking in a warm bath in the middle of the night to ease the pain. On May 3, I returned to the Medical center where the triage individual told me that I should let the medicine work. It was Mag Citrate and as anyone who has had a Colonoscopy would know, that should have happened. On May 4 the pain had been unbearable during the night. With tears welling up in my eyes I returned one more time. The Dr on Duty convinced me that I should be sent to a Local Hospital. I won't bore you with the details but I had a CT Scan, blood work, urinalysis and then thrown back into society on my own with a ship to catch. Since then CRICKETS!!! And 6 days later I tested positive for Covid, what I am now calling Ebola 2 because that is how they treat you. Since my Covid Quarantine nobody from the Medical Department has asked about the super expensive shore excursion. Last night when the person who calls from the Medical center called about my situation I brought up the pain which is now keeping me up throughout the night. Once again the Mighty Tylenol was recommended along with a pain pill that was prescribed by the hospital Now nobody there has any copy of my blood work or my urinalysis. Nobody knows how much Tylenol I have been taking. Nobody knows anything about my medications or medical conditions. Just take Tylenol Yes, I am becoming less amused. What the hell are the credentials of anyone who is presently working on Celebrity ships? How do I know that the person who keeps telling me to take Tylenol is indeed even remotely Pharmaceutically or Medically trained? How do I know that the Drs onboard even have the knowledge or authority to have prescribed Anti Virals as they should have from the beginning? I feel warehoused. I feel totally ignored We are in a cabin that is smaller than anything that I would ever have paid for. There are no chairs to sit on. I get to eat my food from a patio side table. Why is Nate Berkus even putting his name on the decor? Has he heard of chairs and tables and comfort? For the past 50 years my husband and I chose to eat every meal at a dedicated table with supportive chairs. And here we are. Eating like refugees who have arrived without a plan and are in detention. The food that arrives is like a game of "Guess what they forgot to give you this time?" Or "Some like it hot, too bad we dont think that applies to you." We have even tried ordering the same food for each of us. Sometimes we only get one of those items. We could try ordering the appetizers first and then wait and order the main course later but that would probably be worse We are obviously in need of a dedicated Room Service number. A Dedicated and easily reached Covid Concierge. AND for anyone (I would have been one of those people) who says: "Come on, food is not that big a deal" try wondering when you are going to be able to order something. We cannot go anywhere to simply graze. .Celebrity won't need to worry about this for much longer. The seven day cruisers will have disembarked before their symptoms appear. I will probably still be on. I am betting that I will be taking Italy's 21 day Challenge. Happy Sunday to everyone. I have hit the wall.
  13. I am convinced of that. My husband has chosen to remain with me in Isolation until I test Negative . That means he does not get to leave the cabin either. I completely understand the desire on the part of the Revenue department to maximize the money that they can get from each sailing but it comes at the price of the passengers who paid the original price and are not getting the service that they anticipated. I am still convinced that the Retreat area inPort Everglades is the area that the is the incubation location. I understand that there are those who think that the airplane passengers are bringing it on, but many of us drove or were driven. Thank you so much for your kind words.
  14. Just to clarify. We have fresh air as a result of being in an Infinite balcony. The top window can be pulled down in order to allow for fresh air. My husband was not as lucky when he was first moved to his last cabin. It was only when I went to the Customer Relations desk and asked why he could not be moved that things changed. I will admit, I did lose it this morning. I became almost inconsolable at the thought of possibly testing positive tomorrow. I was not upset for me as much as I was that my husband has chosen to stay with me. We cannot leave the confines of this stateroom. I want him to be able to continue his post surgery recovery but that is not going to happen. And because today is Embarkation day, there is no Room Service and the Quaranteeners are fairly well forgotten. I had to wait n hold for Customer Relations to answer in order to have the Internet restored. I am sure that they were bombarded by so many Entitled Guests who want something for nothing. The high stress level on Embarkation day is truly remarkable. IF anyone is listening: If we are to be all on the same deck why can there not be a Covid Concierge within phone call distance? This is a lonely place. There is no dedicated phone number for either Covid information, fresh towels or room service. If they would allow me access to a hallway, I could totally revamp this system in less than 15 minutes. (I dont need the hallway I just want a change of scenery. ) My organizational skills are those of a former old-fashioned housewife. You try getting one to baseball, the other to Clarinet lessons and your husband's suit to the cleaners all before the Stock Market closes. 🙂
  15. Quarantine and Isolation mean exactly that. There is no leaving of the Isolation cabin There is no going down to the Medical Center as you wish. There is no coming to see you in Isolation unless it is your day to test. And then they are completely covered in protective uniforms. And I do feel ill. I was sick enough to spend over $1,000 at a Spanish Hospital when we were on the Transatlantic. IT was not Covid related. And I am still very uncomfortable in the epigastric region. I mentioned this today to the Nurse when she called. I have copies of the blood work etc that was emailed to me and I did give them copies of the Diagnosis and visit. I had City Scan with contrast. (I KNOW it is a CT scan, but the ONE English speaking member of the Medicalstaff at the Hospital who spoke English kept referring to it as such and I cannot help but imagine a Panoramic shot ofChicago. :). ) I have not been asked for the blood work and the only reason they have the other info is that I took it to them, thinking that perhaps there was some sort of follow up needed. Today is Embarkation day. The Quarantine ward is left completely alone until later today.
  16. Just wondering where EXAMPLE #2 comes from. Has this happened to your knowledge or is this hearsay?
  17. I gather I must personally thank you for all of your hard work in making these changes happen. After all, you queried whether Celebrity had listened to the all encompassing “us”.
  18. There has to be a Public Health guru on these boards who can see a correlation between all these positive cases popping up on Days 7 and 8 after Port Everglades departure. Every one of us was vaxxed and boosted. Every one of us tested negative the day before boarding. We all joined different ships with different crews, all of whom are routinely tested. I am nothing more than a lowly cruiser whose poor pre-planning put her in a no snacks situation, but have we given any thought to the Embarkation lounges or workers? This has happened industry wide on sailings out of Port Everglades.
  19. They know. But like so many others, they don’t care. 😎 ( I am not insulting you, I am using the universal “they”) I am unable to sleep and your statement just made me smile. 🤓
  20. When we finally get home I will have two extra weeks of medication anyway. Our Quarantine merely ate into our already planned 5 week trip. I had the additional meds already planned for as we were on the last ship to return to the USA in 2020. What I do not have is my “Miss February” set of 28 days of underwear. Because this is an all inclusive cruise ship I did not remember to bring my snack supplies in the unlikely event that I would fall into the 1.3% cohort in isolation. I do have a really good hair straightener though and if I might get access to some aluminum foil, I can squirrel away some white bread and a cheese plate so that I have a grilled cheese sandwich during Room Service shutdown today. It is yet another embarkation day here in Civitavecchia. I do wish that I had brought some urine test strips. I just checked my Spanish Hospital notes from Palma De Mallorca and it appears that my fluids are acidic enough to be of concern. This is new so my Medical travel bag will have to get bigger. I was also thinking that sometimes when I have to walk on cobblestones my feet get sore. I will add a foot bath to my luggage next time. I am sure there are many things that I have forgotten. Please don’t hesitate to add suggestions. After all, I left the USA woefully unprepared. Now you understand my late mother’s disappointment in me.
  21. I can appreciate your commentary. Obviously you are not presently caught up in this situation yourself and you should be grateful that you are not. We assumed the risk of travel. We are simply stating the reality that is not found elsewhere.
  22. So easily stated from the comfort of one's own abode. Tell me how things will work out for you when rules change part way through your next journey. This Transatlantic season has been unlike any others. This is true for every curiseline that left the USA to go to Europe this year. May 1 was a real eye opener as to the way that Celebrity handled things. I was told repeatedly that there were conference calls going on between Head office and our ship as we cruised across. And given the time difference that is problematic. And if you had inside knowledge of what Italy planned to do after may 1st then you were certainly very quiet about it. I would like to believe that MY INFORMATION was helpful in preventing a bad situation for others. Your comments simply prove that you are probably avoided at parties. And that was before social distancing. Thank you for your input.
  23. When I was in my early 20s and giving birth to my kids I learned that I had lost all expectation of privacy from the medical staff. I swear I showed my "never minds" to a television installation man That is what this damn Covid has done as well. If you want to get home, you will show whatever is required to get there . (Except your "never Minds" 🙂 )
  24. We too have purchased Med Jet Horizon. We thought that the worst of our problems might be from Civil unrest. And yet here we are. I believe that we would have to be needing transfer to a hospital in the USA after a 5 day stay in a European hospital. And we would have needed to have negative Covid certification to leave Italy, As for those who keep saying that we should have known that this would be the situation let me refresh the memories, things all changed on May 1. Both as to the rules of the Nations and the response by Celebrity.
  25. We thought that too. Allow me to enlighten you. We are people who travel in Suites and take World Cruises. We disembarked Queen Victoria on March 17. 2020 having completed a circumnavigation of South America. We are in our early 70s.We figured then that we hadat the most five more good years to travel. So we have been locked down for 40% of that time. My husband had cancer surgery 9 months ago. He is supposedly cancer free and we were cleared to travel. We had our shots and boosters and are really good at using the actual sinks wherever food is served. We choose the Retreat when we booked because we thought that the passenger count would be lower and that social distancing would be easier. Except the Revenue Department decided to oversell the upsells to Retreat. We thought that we would take the risk. That is how cavalier we were at the beginning. And then on Day 8 ,prior to any land access, my husband tested positive for Covid. He felt a little headachy. He took an at home test. He was positive. I was negative. We called Medical. They came and tested us both. HE was taken to deck 12. His meals were served on paper products. I will not bore you with the details of the medical care , but suffice it to say, there are no antivirals onboard and bring your own Tylenol. He was contacted twice a day and asked for his temp and blood ox. When we arrived in Civitavecchia he was moved to Deck 6. Food was now delivered on china and glassware. I tested positive on May 9. I joined him. My thermometer was provided on my second day. I had a fever for 36 hours. I was called and checked on twice during this period. We are stranded in Italy until May 21. Celebrity is being wonderful in terms of this situation. But, this is no country for old men. And NO we did not know what we were getting into when we embarked. May 1st changed a lot of things and the cruise lines and Nations did also.
