@ceilidh1....I would love to stay an Pan Pacific, but YIKES $500+ a night for the luxury of walking across the street to the cruise terminal?  I am gonna have to mull that over.

We splurged and stayed at the Pan Pacific this June for our Alaskan cruise.  It isn't even walking across the street - it's just downstairs.  I recommend staying here at least once, especially for those of us who won't be cruising Alaska multiple times.  YOLO.

  2. @UKstages That was one of the most entertaining "rants" (as someone else called it) I've read here on CC.  Thanks for sharing your experience - the good, the bad and the ugly of it all.

We sailed on the Encore inaugural transatlantic in 2019 and had a noise issue/creaking in our room that kept us awake.  Guest services first explained this was normal for a new ship.  We pressed the issue since sleeping became a problem, and we were eventually moved to a different room.  A smaller room was offered first, yet we politely requested a room at least the same size and we were accommodated.

Last year we sailed the Prima inaugural transatlantic.  Our room did not have any creaking but our friends next door did.  They did not complain or request to be moved so they managed.

(We didn't care for the Prima design and cancelled the Viva transatlantic.  Here's hoping for a better ship layout for Leonardo #3.)

I am also late to this reply, but I hope you have a wonderful trip with Dive.is! I had a fantastic dive (and overall experience) with them and would happily book with them again.

Thanks for the reply.  We just received confirmation that we have enough people for this tour to happen so we're excited.

How did it work when it came to charging you last minute? Was this a line on board or off the ship?

This line was off the ship.  Just head over to where you would normally stand in line to get on the vehicle/vessel for the actual excursion.  We stood in line like we had tickets, then told the excursion person we were there to wait for a possible cancellation.  She told us to stand off to the side and wait and we would be notified.

I kept an eye on the person I spoke to, and stood close by so as not to be forgotten.  Eventually the person waved us over because of the last minute cancellation.  She asked for our cabin number and gave us a hand written receipt for the charge, and we were on our way.

How much of a chance is there to get on an excursion that is sold out? I waited too long to book 2 that I wanted

We sailed on the Dawn in December and wanted to partake in a sold out excursion.  The shorex employee suggested waiting in/at that specific excursion line the morning of in case of a cancellation.  It worked in our favor and we were able to go.

For us, Haven Suites just aren't what NCL Suites used to be.... the best suite we ever booked on NCL was the Deluxe Owners Suite on the Dawn...that cabin was the bomb!!  Floor to ceiling windows, right over the bridge...bigger than alot of NYC apartments... back when they used to give you 3 BOTTLES OF BOOZE of your choice!! The list of amenities was long.  This was long before the 'Haven' and the 'Cabana' rooms...

We were booked on the Dawn for the week after the cruise shutdown.  About a month beforehand I had called and paid to upgrade to the DOS for $1000 total from a balcony.  At the time, the room offered the amenities you listed.  It will always be a misty-eyed moment of "we were so close".

Long time lurker and observer here....

I am also booked on the Prima TA next month, she looks beautiful...in the pics.

    Really looking forward to it.

I have done a couple of NCL new ship TA's and it is always a good time.

It is, however logistically more work than cruises out of the US.

After a great trip on Encore there was a brief agreement between me and DH that we could book the rest of the NCL new ship TAs as they come out for the next several years.  One big cruise a year on a new ship sounded great.  However, the two to two and a half weeks time off required for the logistics eats up the PTO and interferes with other trips and plans, as others have been discussing.  I'm ok with it but DH is not.  First world problems, I know.

I hope we get a chance to say hello on the ship.

Has anyone been checking out pictures of the new Norwegian Prima? This thing is looking more like a luxury line ship than anything they've ever put out before. I can't wait to check it out in February next year...

We are booked on the transatlantic next month.  I remember telling you to book the Encore transatlantic back in 2019.  Do you think you'd enjoy a t/a?

Well that's a real slap in the face. How sad and disrespectful.

From the picture painted for us, they don't sound like a respectful bunch.  Plus, if they weren't close to her why go?  I know I'm in a minority when it comes to paying respects after the fact.  If you didn't come to my house for dinner while I was alive, don't come to my funeral.  I'm solving that by not having a funeral.  Didn't plan on this going gloomy - it's been that kind of year so far.  Condolences to you, Sid.

  9. Someone posted yesterday that Canada changed their rules.

    Here is the link https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada

The web page is dated 8/12/2022.

    Pre-entry testing is not required

Pre-entry tests are not required for fully vaccinated travellers entering Canada by land, air or water. You must still use ArriveCAN within 72 hours before your arrival to Canada.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children under the age of 12 are not required to provide a valid pre-entry test result, if they are accompanying a fully vaccinated adult.

Children who are less than 5 years old are not required to test, regardless of their vaccination status.
