  1. I have been on several Christmas cruises and have never had to pay more in the specialty restaurants - and I always made reservations for Christmas day in one of the two... I wonder when they started that? where are you getting those prices?[/QU

This is what shows up when you go to reserve on line.

    OVERVIEW

Ring in the holiday at Giovanni's Table with a merry mouthwatering fine-dining experience. Toast friends and family with a glass of champagne and an amuse-bouche. Then enjoy one of our signature main courses from the full menu of traditional Italian cuisine or a special holiday lobster tail. The meal is complete with a selection of petits fours - making your holiday a Specialty one.

So... You get a bell? To ring in the new year with? And Petits fours? It's not very specific on what exactly is different. At least with Chop's they are posting a menu. Giovanni's isn't listing a menu...

  2. You do get a glass of champagne and a one-bite appetizer... How about party hats? Noise makers? Commemorative coin? Stuffed bear that says "Royal Caribbean"? I see this posted for my 12/26/16 sailing, and am interested but not yet convinced.

I very much enjoy the Chef's Table, but this doesn't appear to be the same thing. And I suspect MDR will do it up for New Year's Eve anyway, somehow.

  3. Just saw something being offered for the 12/26/16 sailing: A Culinary Celebration at Chops and Giovani's. Has anyone done this before? I love Chef's Table, but the description doesn't really explain how this is different then just dining at Chops or Giovani's, except for the glass of Champagne. I mean, do you get party hats? Noisemakers? A Commemorative pin?

What does everyone think? Has anyone done this before?

  4. Hi Ya'll!

My family and I will be going on the Liberty on 11/20 and we are all excited!

(My husband, mom & dad, sister & brother in law & 2 nieces).

    I have a quick question.....

What is the brand of televisions in the rooms?

And what do you all think about the possibility of tropical weather in the caribbean in the upcoming week?!

    Have an amazing day!

    -Sarah

We have sailed in the Caribbean in November before. We were very comfortable, temperature-wise. I don't remember it being particularly hot, but it wasn't cold. Except on the ship at night...

  5. I did an evaluation of this with an upcoming cruise over New Years on Liberty. What it boiled down to was my wife and I don't drink enough to make the package worthwhile. If we have 6 drinks a day (3 for her, 3 for me), and we carry on two bottles of wine, our cost just buying the drinks is about $100 less then the drink package. We estimated about $10 a drink, which is really the cheapest of options. So, for us the package doesn't work. But for others? It's all dependent on how much you drink, and whether you'll drink the house rotgut or need the brand name.

  6. We prefer decks 4/5 for walking since the majority of it is covered and there aren't as many people to dodge as compared with the actual walking track. Neither of these decks goes all the way around; you have to use both to go all the way around. Deck 4 goes almost all the way around, but to complete the loop, you go up a flight of stairs at the forward part of the ship to deck 5, cross the bow (which is where the helipad is located) and back down a flight of stairs to deck 4 at the other side.

Awesome! That's exactly what I was looking for!

  7.

We cancelled The chefs table event finding out it would be held in Windjammer and not in a nicer venue. Also with already having specialty dining package most of week, we were not sure about spending Friday night with up to three hour dining experience ! Plus at 85 a person how much better could it be than specialties. Maybe next cruise we will try?

Ours was always held in Chops. But they might have a private area off of the Windjammer. Can't imagine it being staged there! I guess we'll see in about 30 days.

  8. We sailed last year on The Navigator, and enjoyed the MDR, Chops, and Giovanni's. Yes, the restaurants cost a little more. And so did the outstanding lobster we had one night. But this isn't about the price. It's about the taste.

We are sailing on Liberty over New Years, and have already booked Chops, Giovanni's, Sabor, and Chef's Table. I also expect to book the Galley Tour and Brunch on board. Needless to say, we haven't had any food issues at all.

Having said that, I appreciate all viewpoints: Your Mileage May Vary. Not everyone likes chocolate, and not everyone will have the same experience i had.

    See you on board!

  9. Surge Protectors are the issue, and most plug strips include surge protection.

More than you ever wanted to know about this here:

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2332780&page=3

Read the fine print in the guarantees / warranties for any surge protector - every one I ever checked excludes use on marine vessels.

Wow. I can't even imagine all that arguing over something with such a simple solution!

  10. Wow. So much arguing, and with such a simple solution: Just bring an extension cord that can handle the amperage but with no surge protection. I am exhausted reading the back and forth, but the simple answer is easy and inexpensive and my cords won't get confiscated and I won't have to go to the naughty room.... Unless they figure out I have bourbon in the Listerine bottle...

  11. Just off the Allure and I never saw any $33 bottles of wine. I did buy a couple from Gifts & Gear that were $36. But I can't recall any that cheap on the ship.

We had the drink package and the max is $13 per drink. It was cheaper to get 2-3 glasses of "free" wine than buy a $55 or more bottle for dinner.

We had Duck Horn just about every night with dinner and it was $65 by the bottle. But a glass was under the $13 so "free."

I bought one bottle of a cheaper white wine for the cabin at Champagne Bar and it was $58. But I got the 40% off for having a package.

These prices are all without the 18% added.

You are probably right about the bottle price. I didn't check before posting. Sounds like what you did worked great for you!

  12. If the only time you will be drinking alcoholic beverages is dinner, and wine is your drink of choice it definitely makes sense.

For most buying the beverage package, however, that is not the case so it would not work for them.

As usual it all depends on the person what is the best way to go.

    Agreed. Your mileage may vary.

  13. I cruised on Navigator, and had a great time. Little did I know I was being cheated out of shoes in my wardrobe. If I don't get shoes in my wardrobe, I demand an OBC. Seriously, to the original poster, I am truly sorry you had a bad time. As they say, Your Mileage May Vary. Hopefully, your next cruise, with RCCL or someone else, will be much better.
