  1. This is my small collection of ship figurines. I am looking to trade for Carnival Conquest and Royal Caribbean Navigator. If you have one or both to trade, let me know what you are looking for, and we'll see if I have it!

  2. We have a cruise booked with NCL for the end of 2017, and we want to pay for it over time.

On another cruise line, they had an unpublicized policy that you could mail in checks to pay for the cruise but nothing else. I noticed the NCL has an address for travel agents to mail in checks. I wonder what would happen if a passenger used that address to mail in checks?

That way, we could set up an automatic payment with the bank, and we wouldn't have to think about it.

Has anyone else had experiences with this? Both good and bad.

    Thanks!

  3. Here's what we do:

    - While you're still at your night-before hotel, get your bags ready. That is, do your double-checking, close 'em up with cable ties, and attach your ID tags. This means that when you pull up to the terminal, your family's ready to jump out of the car -- you won't hold up the line while you discuss whether the blue tote bag is supposed to go on the ship or stay in the car.

    - If you're driving and leaving your car at your pre-cruise hotel (a good financial choice), have Dad drive the family to the terminal ... where Mom and the kids jump out and manage all the luggage. Have Dad return the car to the hotel and park it. Since he's one person alone, he will be able to jump on the next shuttle, bypassing families who are trying to catch a ride with all their luggage. When Dad arrives back at the terminal, he can join the family, who will have had time to process the bags. If the line moves too quickly, Mom can allow people to pass her so that Dad has more time to catch up.

    - Before you leave home, gather everyone's identification and cruise tickets into ONE BAG. Double check, then double check again. And put one adult in charge of these items.

    - We drive, so we make a point to gas up the car the night before. No, this doesn't help us board any faster ... but it means that when we disembark, we are ready to hit the freeway towards home ... without any delays.

    - Get to the port early. This means you'll spend some time waiting before they allow the earliest cruisers to board, but it means you start your vacation earlier ... and you have an hour or two with an essentially empty ship.

    - What we like to do when we board: Go to the tip-top of the ship, then walk the whole ship -- before it's busy -- and see everything. Most people rush straight to the buffet for lunch, but we so enjoy that first walk ... even if it's a ship we've sailed before.

This is great advice. Some of it we already do, but not all of it!

  4. I am so sorry you had this experience. I sincerely hope your onboard experience is perfect.

I have had a few issues with RC and their policies, but not a customer service issue. The biggest one was the check policy: I had been sending in checks out of every paycheck to pay for our cruise. A little at a time, easy does it, and the cruise is paid for. The "Official" policy is RC doesn't accept checks: You have to go online and post a payment every time. However, when i had the checks autopaid to Royal Caribbean, they deposited them and they credited them no problem. However, once the cruise was paid for and I expected money to my onboard account, they started returning checks. I wound up on hold a long time while they involved resolutions, but the answer finally came back that there was no explanation. That's just the way it was. I wasn't mad a customer service, but I was dissatisfied with the answer.

Customer service also saved me some real headaches when this sale came out: We had a number of specialty restaurants booked, and we wanted to save the money and get the sale price -- A difference of I think maybe 30 bucks. Customer service explained that they had already sold out specialty dining on my cruise, so there was no discounted seats to give us if we had cancelled our regular priced seats. Very straight-forward and helpful.

Please do let us know how it all turns out, and don't let the petty stuff ruin your cruise!

(FYI, I have later learned that most cruise companies will not let you mail payments. Even with electronic checks that hit instantly. What's with that?)

  5. Add us to the list of people who arrive at the departure port at least a day early (if we're flying in--Baltimore is the only one to which we drive). We try to arrive at the cruise terminal between 10:00 and 11:00 simply because we can't wait to be onboard...and then we have a drink at the pool bar.

I also unpack as soon as the rooms are ready. I want it to feel as much like home as possible as quickly as possible.

We always have a balcony cabin but I like to do sailaway above the main pool deck. The vibe is always energetic and it's a great way to "get the party started."

One of the newer things we're doing is the Chef's Table. We've done it on 3 cruises thus far and loved it every time. It's worth the cost!

Love Chef's Table! One of our traditions, too.

  6. Our routine is:

1 arrive a day early for our cruise

2 buy 2 two liters to take on board

3 get to the port at 11:00

4 after boarding go directly to the windjammer to eat

5 leave the windjammer and check our dinning table in the MDR

6 find a public area to sit and wait for our stateroom to become available

7 go to our stateroom and drop off our carry on

8 wander around the ship until muster

some where a drink will appear in my hand

Hey! That's exactly our routine! Well put!

  7. For many years, our 'tradition' was get onboard early, grab something to eat in the Windjammer then head straight to the ship library and pick out several books to read. Sadly, libraries onboard RCCL are now a thing of the past. You are lucky if you find a few shelves with books, and many of them are not in English. I guess libraries are not 'cost-effective' and the kindles etc. have made them obsolete. Now, I bring paperback books with me, and leave them on the bookshelf when I disembark.

I'm afraid I'm part of the problem: My Kindle goes with me everywhere. And is loaded with mysteries set aboard cruise ships.

  8. Hi Bookster. I don't live around DFW, but I'm going on Conquest Sunday. I will see if they have any Conquest thingys in the gift shop. Have you received any other offers yet? I don't want to duplicate as I really have no need for one of those. :-) Does it look something like this but its the Conquest?

Ain't that the truth!!! Don't you dare refer to someone from Fort Worth as "being from Dallas" :D:D:D

    Uh-oh! Have I stepped in it now????

Yes! That is the exact thing! Except Conquest! I have had others say they can help, but not who are leaving this quickly.
