  1. Seeking advice on mending a vintage/antique quilt. (I know, not cruise fashion, but I believe there are some very capable people here!) I was given a lovely old quilt top, to which I attached a filler and a back. Just put it on the bed for the season, but in the dark my finger caught at one of the delicate squares and tore it to shreds. Where do I begin to repair or replace it? Just find a complementary piece of fabric and hand-stitch it on? Zigzag all over the spot? I suspect there will be more flaws as winter goes by, but I don't want to stop using it. I held it in reserve all the years we had cats. Thank you!
  2. And, assuming you have registered a credit card when you checked in, there is nothing more you need to do.
  3. I guess we will find out after Nov. 22 and 27, and December 9 and 21 cruises. I posted this second one on NCL, in hopes of further answers, but it was moved here.
  4. We did a cruise in January, 2020, and enjoyed it so much we came home and booked another on the same line, for just a few months later. Of course, we didn't get to do it. We re-booked four times, but never did get aboard, and the ship then went to the Med for good. More recently, we were booked on a C/NE cruise which was re-routed due to the hurricane. It went from our favorite itinerary to our least, but we had no thoughts of cancelling. However, the day before departure, our agent called to ask if we were still going, to which we said "Of course!". Well, she says, 28 of the 32 people in the transportation group have cancelled, and we are not able to run a 60-seat coach for four of you. No cruise. The 900+ people who did sail said it was one of the best cruises ever, even with no shorts in their luggage.
  5. I'm curious what the parking arrangements are at Baltimore. RC and Carnival use the two lots full time. Will NCL pax park elsewhere and be shuttled?
  6. The convenience of exchanging onboard, and the fact that I can learn which is a loonie and which is a toonie, before I go ashore, makes it well worth it to me.
  7. I was just reporting what I read here on cc a couple of months(?) ago. The two current, separate parking lots are used by Carnival on one side and RC on the other; always the same for each. There was some speculation that an area beyond the large warehouse building adjacent to the port area could provide parking. ACL has been sailing from Baltimore for some time (occasional, not regular, cruises). Much smaller ships, but perhaps someone who has done those can report what their arrangements were. We have done cruises elsewhere in which we had to park at a distant area, and use a shuttle to take us to the terminal.
  8. The two parking lots are always full. I read that NCL cars would be parked elsewhere, with shuttles taking pax to the terminal.
  9. Park Cafe, in the Solarium, has a small lunch selection on boarding day. There is also a bar there.
  10. If you don't want to walk far (and Saint John is mostly steep!), the Container Village, right at the ship terminal, might be fun to explore. There are a couple of places selling Canadian foods such as beaver tails (pastry) and poutine. Alternately, the Big Pink Bus can provide a circle tour that takes in a lot of the sights, and it has a stop right at the port, too.
  11. Apart from the dress code, the other issue I'd be concerned about is the set dining, which I know is not the case on NCL. Our last cruise on Celebrity had some NCL cruisers aboard, and they were blissfully ignorant of set dining, although they had the option of choosing Mytime dining. But no, they wandered into the set dining room, sat at any table, got up, called their friends over to sit with them, ignored dining times.... So, if you would be uncomfortable with having to go to dinner promptly at the time assigned to you, and the table assigned to you (most likely with several other people), I would hesitate to recommend Cunard.
  12. RC and Carnival are the primary, year-round Baltimore lines. NCL is doing a few cruises in November, December, and next September. ACL has a few throughout the year. The parking lots only accommodate RC and Carnival pax.
  13. Just an observation. We no longer drive, but use a county ride share service for appointments, groceries, etc. Yesterday there were four other riders in my van, young adults who appeared to have severe, probably life-long handicaps. It was yet another dose of reality to me, that my malady could be worse, and it could have happened at a much earlier age. I am indeed blessed to have had, overall, a healthy and wonderful life.
  14. And if your neighbor leaves their balcony door open at all, it will shut off your AC when it shuts his off.
  15. OP, Do you have a reason to believe you might/will be affected by seasickness? We were fortunate in that we started cruising before anyone talked about it, so we never thought about the possibility, or of taking any meds. Fifty cruises, some with very rough seas, and neither of us has ever been bothered by it.
  16. I would suggest posting this on the HAL section, under Cruise Lines A-O, closer to the top of the menu. You might also find a Roll Call for the ship and date you are sailing, to get some helpful information from others who will be on your cruise. Happy sailing!
  17. I would suggest posting this on the Canada/New England area, under Ports.
  18. It says "Print this page (just your names and booking #) and show up at the port to see an agent."
  19. But then again....if you book a land resort, and a hurricane hits, you have no options. The resort might even get washed away.
  20. BTW, that redirected cruise turned out to be one of the best cruises ever, even for those who didn't have an opportunity to add shorts to their packing. Maybe the fact that with the cancellations, the ship was uncrowded and service was spectacular. Maybe having a good attitude about change helps.....
  21. Saint John is one of my favorite ports. Sadly for me, my C/NE cruise a couple of weeks ago was sent to Bahamas at the last minute, instead.
  22. To do: Bay of Fundy Reversing Rapids, Old City Market, HOHO bus, Container Village at the port, breweries, Tim Horton's....
  23. Crestawave, Welcome to Cruise Critic and to cruising! Your trip sounds wonderful. It seems like you've gotten some helpful replies. It might also be worthwhile to post your question on the Viking Board here, in case someone there might come up with some further ideas. There are no foolish questions here; questions are what CC is all about!
  24. There are vegan options every day. Unfortunately for us vegetarians, there are only vegan options now. No real cheese, no eggs in those dishes. Lots of mushrooms, from what I understand.
  25. Personally, we would take an OV, on any deck, over a balcony any time. I consider a balcony a type of obstructed view, with all that metal outside my window. The only time we've booked them is when they were cheaper than OV....and we were not pleased.
