Lots of great info on the Port of Charleston.  This will be our first time cruising out of there.  We actually have never been to Charleston.   I am platinum and have only cruised out of Florida :0   So, your information is great.  Strange to think that I park in one spot and have to be shuttled to the ship.   Let's just hope i have patience.  I will be ready to get on the ship.

This will be our first trip on the Sunshine as well.  Headed to Bermuda Sept 28 and doing my research now.  Any advice is great!!

It all moves pretty quickly, no time really to get impatient, or that was my experience. You will be getting on when I get off from Bermuda! I hope you have some time to sightsee in Charleston! The shuttle is a short ride and it has to do with security, at least until they ever get to build a new terminal! I have actually stood in longer lines at other ports.

  2. I cannot even imagine the pain that family and grandfather are suffering over this tragic accident. My husband and I were just talking the other night about all the things many of us have done and were blessed to not get hurt even though we could have been! Praying for this family, so sad...….

I posted to his FB page a couple of days ago about ship time change in Bermuda and got a reply (from one of his staff) within just a few hours

Do you mind saying what they told you? I am interested as well and will be going in September for one overnight there, Sunshine out of Charleston..

  4. Has anyone taken the Carnival Bermuda Island tour? I would like more specifics about it than the website gives. trying to decide between that and booking my own tour, but those can be confusing as well. I am trying to find out if any of them actually stop at Horseshoe Bay for pictures or do they just drive by? Thanks in advance if you have any experience with the ship tour or any other islands tours.

I have purchased the 500 dollar ones and AARP never sends tracking info and it is not on their website either. I signed up for UPS for free and they will notify me when it is shipping and when it is due to be delivered. Works great because I divert it to a UPS store so I can pick it up after work.

Same here, I ordered two 500.00 cards this past Sunday, got no emails they shipped, looked on my UPS site and they showed shipped. they arrived at my UPS store on Wednesday. I am in SC, not sure where they shipped from.

  6. I ordered 1000.00 worth of cards last Sunday and they were delivered to my UPS store Wednesday. I would be contacting them if it has been a month.  I can find nothing about this on AARP site and the link above only gives me a blank page. Not sure this is true. They have not sent out any emails either. I would think they would have something on their website if this were true.

We have Verizon and I am able to text anyone no matter what carrier they have over Wifi. Easy peasy.. that's how I was able to help my co-worker do payroll for me without messing it up too badly so it didn't create too much stress on me when I returned to work and he had AT&T service. I just pre-pay for the value internet plan before the cruise so I can save some money on the price and then I keep my phone logged in to the internet when on the ship. With Verizon you can also make and take phone calls via Wifi too if you need to.

Just be sure to put your phone into airplane mode first then turn on Wifi only so only the Wifi antenna is active.

The current plan descriptions on carnival.com says none of the plans support texting or wifi calling, but it sounds like you were able to do that??? That would be great for my husband if true. We will be on Sunshine, they offer social, value and premium plans.

  8. The last time I cruised Carnival, there was no fee, nor was there when I had my sister order some Seuss at Sea stuff so I could use that to surprise grands about upcoming cruise. No, I would not pay a $50.00 delivery fee, that is ludicrous. It's not like they are being shipped! A reasonable minimum maybe, but not that much. I'll just buy from shops onboard or not buy at all. Good grief, that is crazy! What I could do with 50.00! LOL! I was going to look at ordering some things, thanks for letting me know not to bother looking!

We've been out of Charleston on the Fantasy-class ship but will be going on the Sunshine later this year. I wonder how parking will be impacted with a larger ship docking there.

We sailed on Sunshine a few years ago from Charleston when she was doing test runs and had no issues parking at the port. As others have said, you do get in a line that winds around until you give your luggage, park, and then take a shuttle a very short distance to the terminal (security reasons we were told). We also had no problems getting dropped off near our car at debarkation.  We just followed the signs once we got into Charleston and for us, it seemed pretty easy. Of course, we have not driven and parked at any other ports since we typically must travel and stay at hotels, so let them do it for us. So I have nothing else to compare it to.....maybe it is much easier at other ports.

  10. I also purchased one of these, and having used carnival GC's with no problems, just assumed RCCL would be the same NOT!! I saved a whopping $10.00 when I mailed it in on my already booked online cruise. What happened then is what upset me. My booking was basically taken from me where I could no longer see any payment information online, still can't. I called to pre-pay gratuities and got nothing in writing from them nor can I view it online. Very frustrating and one of the things I hate about this cruise. If people use a gift certificate, they should still be able to view their information online, just like Carnival.

Anyway, she can probably send it in, but be prepared to give the booking to someone in cyberspace and never be able to view your payment information. You will have to call and request they email you invoices, etc, which is aggravating too when it would be so much simpler to be able to view it online.

NEVER will I do that again with RCCL. :(

  11. It is ridiculous to be on vacation and still hung up on this site .. hanging all over your phone or laptop watching for questions. That's YOUR paid time on that ship.

Its like the people who do those "Live" reports. I feel kinda sorry for the travelling companions of these silly people who go on these cruises just to get the attention from the CC crowd. Weird.

Sorry, but it baffles me when people waste their time responding to posts they don't care for. Oh, but I am also telling someone how not to spend their time, silly me! ;p To each their own I say, and what people choose to do with their time is their business as long as it's legal and hurts no one else.

Personally, I thank the OP for the tips!

  12. The CDC says hand sanitizers are ineffective against noro. Need to use soap and water for your best bet.

    Also,

The verdict is in, and it looks like hand sanitizer is at least as effective in protecting against some germs. ... However, hand sanitizers do not kill some common germs such as salmonella, e. Coli, MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) and norovirus.Sep 30, 2016

So, I would not rely on hand sanitizers. And a bleach solution is the cleaner that kills it.

  13. I have sailed more RCCL, a few Carnival and NCL Breakaway. I can honestly say in my opinion, they are more similar than different and we enjoyed them all. I realize people who have sailed only one line tend to be more loyal and defensive of that one line, and that is fine. But for me, except for entertainment differences and some amenities, like ice skating rink and aqua theater on RCCL, food was similar in my opinion, rooms similar, etc.

We had no problems with the freestyle dining, rarely waited more than a couple of minutes and they sat 4 of us together as requested, you could also ask for a table for 2. If you're trying to get to the next "level" with RCCL, then I'd go with their ship. We cannot cruise enough to get to a level that makes a difference in perks for me, so we go on the ship with the best price for the itinerary we want.

If you read reviews for ships on all the lines, you will find similar pros and cons. There are people who hate the food on all 3 lines, some who say service is awful on all 3 lines, etc. Then you have the opposite reviews!
