  1. Thanks! I leave Thursday, so no time for mail, but appreciate the offer! I will try guest services if needed. I have done that on past cruise too I think and was no trouble at all.I don't have to be first off, but don't want to be last either, need to get home for something.

  2. Can you request an early debarkation color zone tag from your room steward? I have done that on other lines when I got a time I didn't like. Will be on the Sunshine. Or is there another/better process? I realize FTTF, Early flights, etc. will get first priority. Self-assist really will not be an option because we have kids with us and will be too much.

    Thanks!

  3. both my and my hubby's phones are only 2 years old and both too old for the hub app. I am not buying another phone just for an app....I can download it to my tablet, but I am not carrying that all over the place either. I still like the print version anyway, I highlight all over it and I still prefer to read a real book, :D

  4. And where do you find "flame retardant" door decorations??? I see this as a way to stop the decorating. The funtimes are paper which is surely not flame retardant and I doubt many other items on the ship are either (think Dr. Seuss decorations for one). If they don't want the doors decorated, just say so, not some stupid rule that isn't consistent ship wide.

  5. My guess is that even though in "theory" you can choose both, they are attempting to get people to just choose one. New cruisers would not know the difference possibly and choose one or the other. The fact they implemented the card in the first place tells me they are attempting to get as many to choose one time frame as possible. Why would they have implemented it in the first place if it was OK for all too choose both times? That would defeat the purpose.

I think they got a lot of backlash, hence the backpedaling. I also expect there is so much confusion and difference on the ships because the stewards have probably been told to try and get customers to choose one time frame, thus lessening their load. They may have even been told this is the direction Carnival is going, to lessen their load and decease the number of crew. Unfortunately, by not being completely honest with the customer, Carnival continues to have questions about this issue and there continues to be mis-information and there is no consistency between ships or possibly even on the same ships concerning the issue.

Now as for me, I will be satisfied with just evening service. Just wish they had been honest and forthcoming in the first place when this was rolled out. Would have saved them a lot of headaches. But, maybe they expected the headaches and don't care. Goes with the territory anytime you make a change. I suspect 5 years from now, it will be the "norm" to have service once per day. It will probably be a "perk" for higher level cruisers to get service twice per day, ;) Got to start somewhere though! :)

  6. Oh great, lets stir the pot not about ice cream.

He is asking a simple question... why can't people just answer without thinking of a motive? He always asks simple questions for discussion, and not all have resulted in change.

    Time will tell......;)

  7. I work with several co-workers with similar illnesses this season and none of them cruised. Some were on multiple antibiotics and one was finally diagnosed with Whooping cough, after being told she had bronchitis, even though vaccinated. Nasty stuff out there this season and a cruise is not the only place you can pick them up....hope you feel better soon.

  8. My Carnival papers "suggest" having a letter from the children's parents giving them permission to travel with us, but it does not say it has to be notarized. It is proving inconvenient for my son and daughter-in-law to both be present for a notarization. Has anyone traveled with a letter that was not notarized, but was signed by both parents?

    Thank you!

    Debbie

  9. ummm, where did I go wrong here? I was asking about changes, not complaining about them, and all of a sudden you think I want to pay more for a tea bag?? there is a reason why I don't stay on the carnival portion of this site anymore.

what are the new changes since January is all I wanted to know.

I guess some people are just ugly and nasty by nature and get their kicks being so here, where they can remain pretty anonymous. I frequently see snarky answers that have absolutely nothing to do with the question that was asked. I just ignore such people, not worth wasting my time or energy on them and thankfully, I don't have to interact with them in person!

Most people with any sense recognize them for what they are; no help at all, and ignore them. They do give the message boards a bad reputation/name though......:(

  10. Do you really think something will go wrong in the next 13 days? I wouldn't even bother unless you have a sick family member that may pass.

2 years ago, on the shuttle to the ship, my sister's 11 year old granddaughter had a grand mal seizure, had never had one in her life or ever been sick before. She had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital and they missed the cruise, though their luggage went and enjoyed it! Thankfully, they did have insurance which covered it all. There is also the issue if something happens to you while on the ship or in a port. Accidents and illnesses happen. Insurance can be a life saver.

  11. Wow, I guess if it happened to you it would still be OK? Because it's Carnival?

Someone posts what happened to them, gives a warning about it -DID not see any mention of wanting anything for it, although the did call in and were told it was correct - yet everyone is "oh well it's your fault"...

NO, the dang website should work, it should not deceive, period. Not be a problem... simple.

I agree. The website not working correctly is not our problem. If they can't get it to work properly, then they shouldn't allow online booking. Not to mention, she did also call and was told the same thing. First time cruisers would surely not know any better and what a bad taste this would put in their mouths. The OP is giving a warning to help others and should not be chastised for that. Did nothing wrong.

  12. Really what? I think the two 50% discounts are very fair. The $25 OBC is just a little icing on the compensation cake. Would you prefer they offer no OBC in addition to the "nice" (as you yourself called it) discounts? Or do you think the passengers deserve more on top of everything they are already getting?

I agree. The contract we sign says they don't have to do anything. 50% refund is pretty generous and then another 50% discount on top of it for a future cruise. And, you still get a cruise vacation, just half the price! :D

  13. I am reading another review form someone just returning from their first cruise after a dry dock. What surprised me was the expectation that the ship would be in tip top shape.

    THEY RARELY ARE.

We got caught once in the 90's, not knowing we were on the first cruise out after a dry dock. Many things were closed, incomplete, cordoned off, and in such a state of disrepair that the workers cruised with us. Across the Pacific no less. Dust was everywhere.

SO, when booking always check the dry dock schedule.

As far as pre dry docks, it's as if they are closing up shop a little at a time. Each day.

To a degree, this holds true for new builds as well. On top of thing not completed or working, the crew has certainly not assimilated themselves enough to work as a team yet.

This is your Easter Monday PSA.

Wish I hadn't read this, LOL! I will be sailing the Sunshine 4 days after dry dock. Of course, I booked a year ago before knowing the schedule. Hopefully, all will be well!

  14. We did the three hour round trip train ride some years ago and in every regard it was spectacular. Wonderful old cars and wonderful scenery at every turn. I highly recommend it!

    What ever you choose--ENJOY!

We did this almost 20 years ago and I still remember it being spectacular!! Awesome scenery. I would take the train roundtrip over a bus down any day. :D

  15. For some of the ships, and I do not know which ones, you now have to CHOOSE your embarkation time online and I think they do enforce that. The email you are talking about I think is a standard thing they send out and no one pays attention to! I too am not getting on a ship that late or I just won't cruise any more, especially for a short cruise. That's crazy. I too like to get started as soon as I can!
