  1. The Med cruise we are taking in June is extremely port intensive, with many nights leaving port at 7 pm.

My question is, will the MDR be extremely busy with late diners on those nights?

How do you fit it all in??

  2. Wow. Is this the demographic that Celebrity is trying to attract? Not impressed.

If I were a passenger on this cruise, I would have been P**SED!

We went on an NCL cruise during spring break 2 years ago that was similar and we swore we would never go on another NCL cruise.

Went on a Celebrity cruise during Spring Break the year before that (out of San Juan) and had zero problems with out of control younger people. Every young person we saw was with their parent(s) and was very well-behaved.

Maybe it's just the problem of cruises that leave from Florida?

  3. I've read that often offers half-off specialty dining promotions on your day of embarkation. Is this true?

We were going to book the 3 specialty dining package, but now wonder if it makes more sense to wait until we board and then book it. This would also allow us to use our OBC.

    Opinions?

  4. I noticed that Celebrity is converting all their spas to Canyon Ranch Spas, and the Equinox's roll out date for the new Canyon Ranch spa is . . April 14. I'm guessing this is one of the areas they'll be remodeling in dry dock.

We are sailing her on May 29, and I can't WAIT!

  5. From experience, does Celebrity normally offer additional shore excursions to the ones listed online, once you are on board?

For example, my husband and I REALLY want to do a Tuscan winery tour where we visit a couple of wineries in the Tuscan countryside, but there is nothing like this on our cruise's listed excursions.

Just wondered if they add any more once you are on board?

We have looked at some of the independent winery excursions, but can't seem to find anyone on our roll call who is interested in joining us, and the private tours are VERY expensive.

  6. You pay the entire amount if it is not included in the Classic package. You can upgrade onboard or call Celebrity in advance. $11.50 per day including gratuity.

So what happens if you purchased the Premium package, and want to try a drink higher than the $11 included drinks. For example, at the Molecular Bar, the drinks are $12. Do we just pay the difference then, or do we need to pay the full price?

  7. We have decided to rent a car when we port in Livorno, and drive ourselves to Pisa, then would like to do a Tuscan winery tour, and possibly a bit of Florence.

Are there websites which lay out a DIY winery tour in the Tuscan region?

    Thanks for the info.

  8. We are going on a 13 night Med cruise in June, 2014, and trying to decide whether our current point and shoot camera (Canon PowerShot SX150is) is sufficient, or whether we need to invest in a DSLR camera.

The Canon has 14.1 MP, 12x optical zoom, and video recording capability.

I just don't want to be disappointed with the quality of my photos because I know we are going to be seeing some incredible sights.

So I'd like some opinions, please, and thank you!

  9. We are going on a Med cruise in June, 2014 and are contemplating purchasing a DSLR camera. Hubby is skeptical about whether we need it.

I want great photos of this 13-night cruise. But I don't want to spend the $$ on a camera if we don't need it.

Currently we have a Canon PowerShot SX150is, 14.1 MP, 12x optical zoom. Seems to take good photos; however, the audio quality on the video camera is AWFUL. I don't know if it needs fixing, or if it is just not a great audio quality to begin with.

OK, let's hear opinions, please. and Thank you!!

  10. Our ship is in port from 10 am to 8 pm and are trying to figure out if we can do all three of these areas in a day.

Would we need a car to do so, or could we manage it with public transportation?

Monte Carlo is probably the one we would drop if we couldn't do all three, but I'm wondering if I will be really mad at myself for not seeing it while we were in the area.

    Thanks for your input!

  11. I am looking at booking a return airline ticket, with a departure time of 11:55 a.m.

Will that be enough time to disembark and make the flight?

Reservation doesn't say what time we will disembark; is it always about the same time?

  12. Hi!

We are not finding the excursions we are looking for when we dock in Livorno, so we are thinking of doing Pisa/Florence partially on our own and I need to know whether this would be doable:

Want to see the Tower of Pisa, then on to Florence to see The David. After that, would like to tour a Tuscan winery and have lunch there, followed by a bit of shopping before back to the ship.

I know I can use the "Pisa/Florence on your own" excursion, but how would we arrange a winery tour from Florence?

  13. When I booked my June, 2014 Med cruise, I asked about whether the 123 promotion was going to extend into 2014 sailings. The CSR told me that as of now, it was not on 2014 sailings, but if they extended it, all I needed to do was call back and they would add the promotion to my sailing.

From what I am now reading, that doesn't sound like she was correct in telling me that. Anyone?

  14. Yes, I did misunderstand that.

But, when you are first diagnosed, you should be testing at EVERY meal. And you should test at both ONE hour and TWO hour intervals, post-meal. Otherwise you will be missing spikes that happen. If you test at the 2-hour interval and get a reading of 144, you have no idea if you spike to over 300 at the one hour, and the 144 is just on the way down, so you might have the mistaken belief that what you ate is "OK."

When I was first diagnosed, my doctor only wanted me to test first thing in the morning. WTH? That would have been useless and given me NO picture of what my blood sugar was doing after meals.

  15. I can't handle more that 20-25 carbs at a meal or I spike up to 140-160. I keep my carb intake under 90 for the day. When I was first diagnosed I tested 80 times a day: wake up, 2 hours after breakfast, before lunch, 2 hours after lunch, before dinner, 2hours after dinner and bedtime. Was doing this overkill? Maybe, but I was able to quickly figure what I could have and should not have.

My readings during the cruise were not bad at all - even with the pretzel rolls and such I never went above 135-140 2 hours after meals, which considering I was enjoying more carbs than usual was OK with me. Keep in mind you are walking and doing other sorts of physical activity. Best part about the cruise was breakfast - I ate all the bacon I wanted (not a believer in that lowfat diabetes recommendation and my cholesterol numbers going lower and lower are are proving it- I am on the low carb-high fat bandwagon)

Mary Ellen, I am also a non-believer in the lowfat diabetic way of eating. I cut my carbs WAY down, but didn't watch my fats and continued to eat bacon and red meats, etc, and saw my triglycerides and cholesterol drop to almost normal levels. To me, that is the best thing about the diabetic way of eating--not being hungry because you get to eat protein!

I think if people would throw out the lowfat diets and switch to low carb diets, heart disease would not be so common.

I am planning on trying a few more carbs on the cruise. Although I will have my meter with me to see how it's affecting me.
