  1. That's right. Ever since the Hudson River was converted to an active aircraft runway several years ago.

Who was the baseball player who was killed in a private plane accident flying along the Hudson River and into someone's apartment?

I thought that was when then closed the airspace over the river.

  2. Your ship should dock long before 8 A.M. Disembarkation can begin as soon as the ships is cleared to do so. It is really hard to say how long that will take. Sometimes it takes a long time to clear Customs inside the Terminal Building also.

I have been on a number cruises ending in Miami and I never book a flight before 2 P.M, but I fly to the Pacific Northwest.

  3. Thanks....it does help. I just wanted to post some info on our roll call before I leave tomorrow morning. I feel at a little bit of a loss not being able to get specific info from the organizer on the POA, but I'm sure it will be fine.

If you are going to post information on your Roll Call, remind people that this considered a private function and therefore it will NOT be listed in The Freestyle Daily as a scheduled event.

    Have a great cruise.

  4. I am actually the organizer of the the M&G  lol. I have tried to get info from NCL, but the person I email to set it up only sets up the date and number of attendees (she's in the Corporate office.) She said it is up to ship as to what they do and she has no information.

To answer your M&G question: on other ships, a date, space, time is provided by the ship for an M&G. Not having been on The POA, not sure how they do things. I have hosted a number of M&G. Usually pastries, coffee, tea and juices are provided. The Senior Hotel Management attends: Hotel Director, Food and Beverage Director, Restaurant Manager, Executive Housekeeper, Beverage Manager and the Cruise Director. I have a couple of Captains attend but that is rare.

    I hope this helps.

  5. I paid for the tour years ago on the Pearl, and it was fascinating. Two years ago, we had a tour of the bridge on the Dawn as a suite perk.

We will be on the Gem this spring. Does it also have a bridge viewing room?

Jewel Class ships have Bridge Viewing Rooms.

  6. Any idea why? I would think that it would be one of the most interesting times to watch them in action, especially with the harbor pilot on board.

It is called being in " Red Zone", curtains are closed. Also until 1/2 hour after sunrise and 1/2 hour prior to sunset.

  7. I will boarding soon - 2 weeks to wait. I have only sailed NCl Pearl and then several other lines. The pearl handled a very rough Pacific Ocean during a storm when HAL didnt leave port from Vancouver due to storm and the Pearl did - 2 days of rough. I thought pearl handled so well and it was fine (many sick and in cabin).

Question - will the Sun handle the seas the same way as Pearl. I read that she doesn't have the same stabilizers and can be a rough ride.

I'm doing San Diego to Santiago than I get off ship hang out in chile and Argentina and get back on Buenas aires and will do Cape Horn back to Santiago.

Nervous about how small this ship appears!

I'm a coffee snob - is there coffee machine in room ? Does it have a good machine in buffet like the Pearl that grinds fresh beans per cup? I may have to bring my own little machine?

Should I bring my own beach towel? Or can you bring towel from

    Ship off ?

Anything more about the Sun I should know? I really liked and had a great

Panama Canal trip on the Pearl - hope the sun lives up to what I remeber that I liked about NCL. My friend will be coming on first leg and she has never cruised - 17 days long if too small/old especially for first timer.

    Thanks for any info

The Sun is a great ship. Was just on Her in September from Vancouver, British Columbia to San Diego. Had a tiny bit of rough cruising (30 minutes or so) coming out of the Strait of Juan de Fuca (from Victoria, B.C. to the Pacific Ocean). If your cabin is near the center of the ship-bow to aft, top to bottom, you should not feel movement to any great degree.

    The ship provides beach towels.

No need to bring your own coffee machine.

Relax and have a great cruise.

  8. Yes, there are over 70 names on the Roll Call for this cruise. Including a very large family group.

    Come join the party.

Not sure of the exact Christmas plans for the Getaway. I know there will be lots of decorations including a Gingerbread village.

We are scheduled to be in Cozumel on Christmas Day.

I can not wait for this cruise.

  9. I just got off the Breakaway and was my 5th cruise with NCL. Some of my favorite shows on NCL is Dancing With the (insert ship name here) Stars, The Not so Newlywed Game, Battle of the Sexes, etc. The Breakaway doesn't have the Spinnaker, which is where these shows are normally shown. Instead, they are shown in the Atrium. The Atrium is crowded, not nearly enough seats, and loud. To see a show, you'll have to get there about an hour early to fight for seats! It's very difficult to see the show because it's so crowded. People are forced to sit on the floor at times. Very poor design. Dancing with the Stars was not even shown on the Breakaway because the stage in the atrium is way too small. Speaking to fellow passengers, we all had the same gripe about the Atrium. Sitting in the Haven bar, I mentioned it to the bartender. She told me the Sun just removed the Spinnaker to put in more cabins and that eventually all the Jewel class ships will do the same. If in fact this is true I feel it will be downward turn for NCL. I found an article about the Sun and removal of the Spinnaker, the library, chapel and card room. Terribly disappointing!!!! Just NCL's way of making more money. In the long run, they may be losing more dedicated cruisers. I say if we can confirm this, let's start a petition against this. http://www.fromthedeckchair.com/2010/05/14/has-ncl-dulled-their-star/

I was just on The Sun- they do not have a Spinnaker Lounge but do have an Observation Lounge. The Sun has not just come from dry dock so nothing has changed on Her in number of years. Yes, she is scheduled for dry dock in the Spring of 2016.

Most staff have NO idea of what is being planned or not planned within the Company.

  10. Which Embarkation city is better for you? Miami or Port Canaveral?

For me, I would choose The Spirit. She is such a wonderful ship- very oriental in decor. Has a Bridge Viewing/Museum down a staircase from the Observation Lounge (Galaxy of the Stars). I have not sailed on Her in awhile and looking at doing it in early March.

  11. I live in the Pacific Northwest and if it were possible for me to be on the Dawn over Thanksgiving, I WOULD BE.

I spend a week on Her in January on this itinerary. I loved the ship and her staff.

You will have a great cruise. What a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving. Lots of televisions to watch all the games, lot of food you do not have to prepare or dishes to wash afterwards. WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE!!!

  12. Look at the size of most of the cruise Roll Calls, only a very small percent of passengers on any one ship belong to the Roll Calls. I would think that Cruise Critic members are still a minority of the total passenger count. There could also been a number off CC members that look for information about a cruise but do not choice to actively participate.

As to Mr. Del Rio, Mr. Sheehan or Andy Stuart, few know or care.

  13. What happened to The Star had nothing to do with the company doing the work. It had do do with a West Coast work slow down in all of the ports not allowing cargo ships to be unloaded in timely manner, so parts did not arrive on time and then the Coast Guard ordered The Star to leave early because She needed to get across the Columbia River Bar and out into the Pacific Ocean before a very bad storm hit. It was bad even 300+ miles inland.
