Some HAL entertainment additions to come
mjmagee replied to Copper10-8's topic in Holland America Line
This is progress but does not fix the central problem that there is nowhere on board to sit, sip a cocktail and listen to music soft enough to have a conversation. I want to be able to listen to something easy before and after dinner. Perhaps a guitar or a trio, playing at a level that enables conversation. Frankly, I love a good rock or blues band but we need a softer music alternative as well. Marilyn- 69 replies

Where should I cruise for Christmas? Panama Canal or Mexco
mjmagee replied to ChinaShrek's topic in Holland America Line
I did the Mexican Riviera (on another cruiseline) this past Christmas. I can say this....if you enjoy whale watching, it was AMAZING! (Both Cabo and PV). Marilyn -
Can you have a second appetizer or dessert in the Pinnacle Grill?
mjmagee replied to farjar's topic in Holland America Line
So if I want an appetizer, say a crab cake, and I would also like a salad, which is listed under starters, I would have to pay the extra $7.00? Crazy. Whether in a main dining room or a specialty restaurant, in 40 years of cruising I have never been charged extra. Marilyn -
A few general (and CO) dining questions

Is room service coffee terrible? Marilyn -
Updated the app. Got the menus now! Thx.

Booked on K-dam for Alaskan cruise this July. When I try to look at a specialty restaurant on the Nav app on my phone nothing happens. Is this typical? I booked my HIA complimentary meal in Pinnacle Grill on line. We have a fair amount of OBC that I would like to use on specialty dining but I can't seem to use it by booking in advance. How likely is it that there will still be dates and times available in Tamarind, Nami and Cannaletto when we get on board (so we can use OBC to book). Thx in advance for any info. Marilyn

Thank you for all your input. Decided on V5141 a rear facing largish balcony on the edge of the bump out. Was able to pick it up as a CO upgrade from a VH for almost a thousand dollar savings! Marilyn

Purchase Club Orange only with Final Payment?
mjmagee replied to mjmagee's topic in Holland America Line
Thank you all for your input. I called Holland myself this evening. The rep spoke to her supervisor and came back and said that my TA had been given the wrong information and since there were only a few CO slots left they went ahead and took my credit card info, booked CO and gave me the upgraded cabin. Snagged a nice V balcony at nearly a thousand dollar upgrade. Well worth the hassle. Marilyn- 17 replies

Purchase Club Orange only with Final Payment?
mjmagee replied to mjmagee's topic in Holland America Line
I guess I worded the title wrong. Should say" Club Orange upgrade only received at final payment?" -
Purchase Club Orange only with Final Payment?
mjmagee replied to mjmagee's topic in Holland America Line
I expect to pay for Club Orange with the deposit. But what she said HAL told her was "They will not assign the cabin for the upgrade till the whole booking is paid in full." Marilyn -
Just booked and Alaskan cruise for this July. Asked for Club Orange to get the upgrade. TA came back and said Holland told her that you can no longer do it with a deposit, only while paying in full. Anyone else hear this? Marilyn

Looking for info/opinions about balconies on the forward facing edge of the bump out sections of the ship, such as 5111, 6169 or 7134. They appear to have longer than normal balconies but of course are on an angle. Are the balconies larger and does the angled shape of the room present any problems? Thx in advance. Marilyn

Have a great cruise! I will be boarding as you are disembarking. Looking forward to your take on San Pedro and your experiences in Cabo and PV. I have booked a winery tour for Ensenada but not sure if that will happen as it falls on Christmas day. Still, Celebrity has a full list of excursions posted for that day so here's hoping. Marilyn -

Thank you! Great review. Marilyn -
How about a new ship in the works....named Horizon! Time to start recycling ship names ala HAL and Princess.

Would like to find a tour company that will pick me and my luggage up, at the cruise terminal in San Pedro, give a decent tour of LA/Hollywood and preferably drop off at a Hollywood area hotel. Have seen one company that does this but it drops off at LAX and costs $140. I thought that was a bit high. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any info. Marilyn

Where did you see this posted? I will be on the Solstice Mexican Riviera cruise this Christmas and have seen nothing posted on the app related to the holidays. Marilyn

Live from…. Victoria, Cunard Vs Celebrity, Grills Vs the Retreat
mjmagee replied to groryjm's topic in Cunard Line
I know there are shortages of many liquors. Have not been able to buy a bottle of Green Chartreuse for 6 months. But Grand Marnier is NOT in short supply. Very available in the states. I would be very, very disturbed if it was not available on a cruise and even more disturbed if it was implied it was used when it was not. I am shocked. -
Thanks for a great, detailed review!

I will be on the Pursuit next week for the Iceland intensive cruise. Suddenly occurs to me that I don't know what currency to use for incidental tipping on board. You know, a couple bucks to the bartender or something for the room steward at the end of the cruise. Can staff use US dollars? Do they need Euros? Do they have a preference? Any advice appreciated.
