  1. Thank you Terry! Crossing all my fingers they drop pre-cruise testing for Alaska as soon as possible!x Though I agree with you re Asia - our next cruise was supposed to be to Japan in a couple of years time, but the way the Japanese Govt are treating western tourists as pariahs, not to be allowed to roam (even with a test!) has put us completely off going there.
  2. Thank you SightCRR - let us what happens when we go to Vancouver!
  3. Thank you very much katrina915, Tiggerontheseas and especially Gramma of Boys. That is exactly what I thought - if it's a LeaveCam, I guess I will put the ship name as our residence, for the 3 hours it is in port before it leaves for Alaska. But what if they want an address? I guess I put Canada Place. It seems so silly and I am very glad that it is odds on that no-one will ask to see it. I am very happy to show our vaccination certificates, and if they still insist, our, hopefully, negative test results.
  4. PS We did book this holiday 4 years ago, for 2020, and there was no mention then of online apps. Normally I avoid countries with unnecessary bureaucracy.
  5. That's a good point Ferry_Watcher! And of course we will put ourselves out to find a printer and do the ArriveCan. I am interested though if cruise ships do bother to ask for it or not?
  6. No that's the point - we just get on the ship in Vancouver and don't return to Canada at all - we end up in Seward. So we are LeaveCan, not ArriveCan! Did the ship check your ArriveCan as you boarded - and what else did they check please?
  7. Please may I ask to any of you who have recently had your Alaska cruise from Vancouver - especially anyone who went one-way to Anchorage: Did anyone at the cruise ship actually ask to see your 2nd ArriveCan? Would a printed certificate of a negative COVID test (until those are finally done away with too!) be acceptable - and did anyone want to see that too? Plus a printed NHS COVID Vaccination Certificate? I am vehemently against teeny weeny mobile apps, due to poor eyesight, and it will be an effort to have to find somewhere with a computer in Vancouver to do this - let alone somewhere with a printer to print the 2nd ArriveCan out, whereas the above I can do from my large computer at home before we even get to Vancouver. I hate doing things which no-one then bothers with, it seems such a waste of time. And I used to be a project manager - if no-one will read a report, don't write it!
  8. I guess if they also do away with quarantine, then people will feel happy to cruise, because most people won't get very ill even if they catch COVID. If you are really vulnerable then probably all the tests in the world wouldn't make travelling a good idea, because you can catch diseases when you go on land in strange places.
  9. We have had lovely holidays in Germany - including Christmas Market river cruises. This November we are on the Rhine - our 3rd such cruise.
  10. Have you fed that back to SS (via your TA?) Clodia, and if so what did they say? I hope they work harder to get rid of pre-cruise testing.
  11. Thank you very much for this Lois - will use it! Still hoping it may go away in time - after all both the UK and Dubai dropped their online entry registration, tests etc 2 weeks before we went there in March, hooray!x
  12. Though do we still need to find somewhere in Vancouver (in mid-July) to test before we get on our Alaska cruise? And I read that Princess etc have brought back masks throughout on Alaska cruises? How long do you think that will last? This is all of course assuming we get to Vancouver. News in the UK of a ground staff (Unite union) strike in July at Heathrow which could stop all flights / make us travel hand luggage only (for a month in the wilds!!) No chance of any even informal nights!
  13. Glad you are able to have fun notamermaid, and I hope Canal archive you get to go on the Seine next year. We saw in the Viking brochure they are doing a Christmas Market week on the Seine (I think in 2023) and at some stage we would be interested in that - we love Christmas market cruises. I hope you are wrong notamermaid re this autumn all the tests and masks coming back, some time they need to stop?
  14. I hope Canal archive that the party situation will still come to the fore! I read that last year everyone (including us) went to Cornwall, and this year that is right down and people are travelling again. So let's hope things can only get better, and fun on the Rhine!x
  15. Thank you very much. Let's hope as we approach autumn cases go down / people stop caring so much! In the UK we are all very sanguine! No-one wears masks, no tests at all, and yes we all get it but no-one gets really sick or dies any more. Touch wood!
  16. Was everything back to normal Jjg34219? Did you have to have any COVID tests and/or wear masks? We are on a similar cruise (the other way) in the autumn.
  17. Thank you Brownie54, glad you had a great trip. We don't go there till next summer, so I trust things will continue to calm down! (to quote our ridiculous politician Michael Gove!)
  18. If they are going to stop the need for tests before flying into the USA, do you think they will also stop the need for tests before getting on a cruise ship - eg our July Vancouver to Seward cruise? Because we don't need to test to get from London to Vancouver.
  19. Exactly CJANDH. In the UK we are coming to grips that everyone will catch it (thankfully the mild Omicron variant) and it isn't affecting us any more. Crossing all our fingers that tests for the USA and our Alaska cruise may go away. Also just looking up our 2023 New York break. It appears the hotel restaurants are still all closed??
  20. Thank you Techno123. Yes we have had a lovely River Main cruise with Avalon and would certainly use them again. I was just seeing what other lines may be like.
  21. Thank you sbjornda. It sounds lovely, but I don't think my husband will pay those amounts, when other and perfectly lovely lines are cheaper. I am interested in Ama waterways, does anyone have experience of that?
  22. Just an aside - I am looking at cruises for 2023 onwards. Scenic appears to charge £7,000 per person for a week's cruise? Do they give large discounts and how do you get this? Or do people pay that sort of money?
  23. We are going at the end of July so we can see the bears eating salmon.
