  1. Can someone please explain to me what this match play is? I will be getting the cheers program on my cruise and would love to max my money in the casino. Please note I do not know a ton about the casino except for slots and I would like to try new things. How does this match play work what do I do exactly?

    it used to be a great program especially with cheers. if you purchased one of the classic cocktails you could take the receipt to the casino cage and get a $5 casino match play. i used to have stacks of them and used them on every cruise. they did not expire and were not specific to a certain carnival cruise ship. as cmukid87 states the program was discontinued years ago.

    but to answer your question how you would use them. you would put it with your bet. so playing black jack for example you would put a $5 chip on top of the $5 match play and essentially be playing for $10. if you win the dealer would pay you the $10 winnings and then take your $5 match play card. this would leave you $15 total. $5 original bet and $10 winnings.

  2. well, if we are going to brag about credit cards. i'll play the game. i have the bank of america preferred travel rewards visa card. this gives the standard 1.5 points per dollar spent. but i am platinum honors status with the card which gives me another 75% bonus on top of the 1.5 point per dollar spent. so this makes the total of 2.6 points per dollar spent. and you have a full year to go back and redeem the points on a previous travel purchase.

  3. As far as partaking in the full experience your tour guide will tell you to only buy it at the compound at the gate but they must get a kick back. When you leave the ship and get on the bus your first stop will be an outside bar. Where you can use the bathrooms and get a drink at the bar. You also get a complimentary beef patty. There was a guy that walked through the area and asked some of the guys if we wanted to buy some but no one did because the guides said to wait. When you get to the compound if you want to partake the guide takes you outside the compound and you line up along the wall where you go one at a time into a little room where the main dealer is. It is $20 for each joint and they also have cake that was also expensive. Before you see the main guy no one on the street will talk to you or try to sell you anything. But once you buy from the main guy and walk back to the street they try to sell you everything from cd's, lighters, and hash oil. During the tour I was approached by 3 other dealers trying to sell me a joint for $5. After the tour we were allowed to smoke on the bus ride back to the outside bar where we had lunch. We were also allowed to smoke at the bar. If you don't smoke or want to be around it this might not be the excursion for you. There are numerous tours going on at the same time and it is very crowded. Most people are smoking and it is everywhere.

  4. On my recent Carnival Pride cruise we bought the best wifi package and it was horrible.....never will get it again unless they upgrade their WiFi. Couldn't even get on the free sites on Carnivals computers to book another cruise.

  5. i was watching one of the national news networks this morning and they were interviewing the Attorney General for Florida. she was addressing how some businesses were gouging prices and taking advantage of Florida residents. one business she called out for this was Chevron. she stated that she would be calling out all the businesses that were taking advantage of people. she went on to praise companies that were helping citizens and people stuck in Florida. she specifically stated how Carnival Cruise Lines contacted her office to let them know how they were helping people stuck on their cruise ships and that Carnival was paying to get their customers home who were in Florida.

  6. Miami....which has been said several times in this thread. It has.been that way forever and hasn't changed.

    for the fantasy ship which was asked in original thread post yes that was stated to be a Miami feed you are correct. but other people where asking questions about other ships. including someone asking specifically about a ship out of NYC. i have cruised out of Baltimore before and it had the broadcasting feed from Newark, New Jersey. so did a cruise i had out of NYC so not all ships are guaranteed to have the Miami feed. a majority of them yes but not all. i was trying to help the person cruising out of New York City who might not have the Miami feed find out what feed they could have before they get on the ship so they can find out for themselves. you imply the Miami broadcast feed has been the feed on every ship in the Carnival fleet no matter what port it leaves from. and you state it has been that way forever and has never changed. that is not true! and I know that from first hand experience not because I think that is the case so it must be but because i experienced it in person.

  7. Some things we found out last year when we sailed during football season.

    -The ship only gets one game. Its whatever the national game is. It doesn't have to do with whatever local channels you get (unless youre in port)

    -Fox game is at 1pm, CBS is at 4pm and NBC is at 8:30....once the national game comes on Fox at 1pm....CBS switches to something like an infomercial until their coverage starts...then at 4pm it flips

    -The staff has zero control on what game is on tv....it sucks. This I don't understand...I don't think it would be a big deal for Carnival to invest in the Sunday ticket since they already have Direct TV anyway but what do I know. Trust me...from talking to the bartenders they wish they had it...it would make their lives a whole lot easier. They have to deal with a lot of crap from upset fans...if they don't have the game you want its not their fault. Hope this helps

    this is not true. this is where it gets complicated and has to do with the NFL no opposing game policy. you have to figure out what market tv feed your ship uses. you can ask someone on this forum who recently sailed on that ship to see if they know what market news was being shown during the week to find this out. once you have this you can figure out the local team in that market. once you find that out you have to check the schedule for the week you are sailing. the broadcast map should be out on Wednesday or Thursday before the game. then you have to figure out the variables in the opposing game policy. below are the 2 most common aspects of the policy. these are not the only aspects that can effect it there are many more, but these will give you an idea of the policy.

    -If a local franchise's broadcast is being held at home in the early game of a doubleheader, the other network (which shows the single game) may only show a game during the late time slot;

    -If a local franchise's broadcast is at home in the late game of a doubleheader, the other network (which shows the single game) may only show a game during the early time slot;

  8. I looked on the site...the game I want is on the blue feed. Is there a place to find the maps? I search 506 and couldn't find it. I'm hoping that since we are leaving out of NYC and going North towards Canada that we wont get Miami.

    today on 506sports.com it states that the maps will be posted on Wednesday, September 6. so sometime today the map should go up for week 1. and the map will change weekly. so i guess the maps will come out every Wednesday during the week. and these maps should give you the blackout areas, and the no opposing game policy blackout zones. you might want to ask on the cruise critic forum and see if any recent cruisers that cruised on your ship out of NYC can remember what news feed they were seeing on their TV's during the week of their cruise. this will tell you what market you will be looking at on the map.

  9. Go to 506sports.com. It will have every national game listed for fox and cbs. Most carnival ships use a Miami feed. When you look at the broadcast listing there is 5 color zones red, blue, green, yellow and purple. Miami is in the red zone. Go to the website look up the week you will be on the ship and see what the national game on cbs and fox on both the early and late games are for the red zone. That should give you the answer you are looking for. But it gets more complicated with the NFL no opposing games policy which is complicated. I'm not even going to try to explain that. Best thing to tell you is to go to Wikipedia and look up NFL television black out policies and look up no opposing games on the page. With all this information a compass, a slide rule, an abacus, and a fortune teller you might be able to figure out what the NFL will allow to be broadcast and in what market. Good luck. 10. i had room 5214. i didn't notice too much noise coming from the bar. i could hear it more in the bathroom for some reason. we stayed up most nights until after the bar was closed. but didn't really notice it when we were in the room getting ready for dinner and that was when there was a band playing inside.

  11. i have used imessage with the social plan on several ships. i have used the imessage to talk with my sister who was on the same ship as me. i also used it to talk to my friend who was back home. you just can not send pictures or video just words. i have also used the app whatsapp on the social plan to keep in touch with my mother in law who was at our house watching the kids while we were cruising.(she has an android phone and we have an apple) on the vista we were actually able to call her and talk to her like a phone through the whatsapp on the social plan. but on the pride which has horrible wifi i couldn't use this function even with the premium plan. i was able to text back and forth with her or to leave voice mails back and forth.

  12. question for anyone who has used the ATM aboard a Carnival ship. does it register to your bank as an ATM in the U.S.A. or does it register as an ATM in a foreign country. i have an ATM card that will pay any ATM fees that incur from using an ATM in the U.S.A.

  13. i have been to the bonsai sushi on the vista and it has a bigger menu than any of the other bonsai sushi on the other ships. extra items on the vista are vegetable tempura, shrimp tempura, ramen and udon noodle bowls, miso salmon, chicken katsu, grilled meat on skewers (yakiton) and teriyaki steak. the other ships you get none of what i listed. as far as ordering off the menu my wife orders an avocado roll which is not on the menu. she has ordered this on the pride, the glory, and the vista with no issues. so i'm sure if they are able to make a sushi roll with the ingredients that they have available they will.

  14. 7th Pride cruise in October 2017. If the ship is on time we have learned to get to the pier about noon, no waiting. Once we arrived at 11:15 and the lot was still closed and they told use we had to leave and return at 11:30. With being Platinum from the time we arrived to the time we were in our stateroom was no more than 15 to 20 minutes. If you are driving to the pier pay with cash the lines is always short, we never had more than one car ahead of us.

    Enjoy your cruise!

    this is good advice bring cash. there will be one line that is lined up to drop off your bags with the porters. after that there are i believe 4 lines to pay for parking. go to the line all the way to the right that is cash only line. there will be nobody in line. it will save you some time.

  15. Home markets can't air another game against the home team's game, since Miami will be on fox during 1pm kickoff, CBS Miami can not air an early game while the Dolphins are on Fox

    i hate this rule. i live in the Baltimore market and i don't like the Ravens. when they play on cbs there is no game on fox just a movie. i just fixed my over the air hd antenna on my roof that broke 2 years ago. now i can watch the Washington D.C. channels that are 46 miles away. now i can watch my Redskins.:D

  16. i love the pride. i think it has a great layout.

    -the coffee bar is good. there are actually 2. the main one deck 2 promenade right outside the redfrog pub. there is also one on deck 9 lido deck where the buffet food is located.

    -the main coffee bar usually has free pastries on the counter in the morning. it is usually croissants. no free cookies. they do sell cookies, cakes, and other pastries. you can also buy power aid, vitamin water, rock star energy drinks, and milk shakes at the coffee bar.

    -if you are a coffee drinker get a coffee card the first day. every time you but a coffee they punch a hole i the card and after a certain amount bought you get a free coffee.

    -there are no freestyle machines on the pride. to get a soda go to the bar.

    -dining options are the main dining room where you pick early or late dining, or you can do anytime dining. davids steakhouse is incredible. it is $35pp but worth it in my opinion. there is also bonsai sushi which is a la carte. it is very good also.

  17. As far as the hotel there are several that have shuttles to the cruise port because they offer cruise and park packages while you are on the cruise. even though you aren't driving you should stay at these type of hotels so you can use the shuttle to the port. there are several of these hotels around BWI airport and a couple in the city of Baltimore. location would depend on what you want. sightseeing in the city the day before you might want to stay somewhere like the Holiday Inn express Baltimore at the stadiums which is on Russell st in the city close to the inner harbor. or if you stay by BWI airport the hotels are close to Arundel Mills Mall (very large mall with restaurants) so you can do some pre cruise shopping if you need to. also the hotels around BWI should have a complimentary airport shuttle.
