  1. We did his 3 years ago for a Royal Caribbean cruise. We flew into Venice and got a bus ticket from the machine in the hall where your luggage comes off the carousel. Couple of euros and your at the bus station in the city. we stayed overnight in a hotel near the train station. only difficult part is the bridge of steps getting to the station - but there is a porter who will carry your bags over the bridge for a euro anyway. Reverse route the next morning, cross the bus station, people mover then walked to the ship. Total cost from airport to hotel to ship - less than €10 Incidentally, we did not find the walk at all difficult or long, and we are no spring chickens. But maybe HAL docks further away?

  2. There was a similar occurrence last December in the Caribbean while we were on a Celebrity cruise. Three passengers died and a dozen or so injured. It was in one of those colourful buses with open sides. Apart from one announcement and a note shoved under our door the whole thing was glossed over by the whole crew and never mentioned again.

  3. We are flying from Heathrow to Miami next month. Then after the ridiculous queue for immigration at that airport, we have pre booked transport to FL for one night pre cruise. Last time we stayed near Miami airport for one night the traveled to FL the next morning straight to the ship. Not a whole lot of difference really.

  4. I will be on this ship in the Caribbean in december for two weeks. I will be wearing my dinner suit - I may take the cream one as well as my black one. I will not worry about who else will be wearing one - as long as I feel comfortable with what I am wearing that is all that matters. So do the same - wear what you want, everyone else will be.

  5. When I click on check in I get to the "select guestd to ckeck in" page.

After that I get the guest information page - which has a green tick at the top. There are also links at the top of this page for passport, flights, contacts, account, contract and docs - which are all ticked green.

Clicking on the docs page gets to the link for printing..

  6. Late is fine - 8/8.30 etc. We just did not want the early dining. We have dined s late as 8.45 on one cruise. We prefer to sit at the same table on a cruise. Going ashore all day and coming back by 5pm or so and then having to dine by 6.30 is way too much of a rush - how would you find the time for a drink...

  7. Do you need to see the captain all the time? I don't I don't really care who the captain on any cruise I am on, as long as they are doing a their job well. Same for all the officers unobtrusive is best for me. Incidentally I was on a Celebrity cruise last December when that female captain started - you could not get away from her! talk about publicity stunts - she was more like a children's television presenter than a shops captain. Standing at the entrance to the main dining room one day, in the kids club making puppets the next. Another day in the shops working as a sales promoter. No idea who actually sailed the ship but it sure was not her. And when there was a major disaster and a couple of passengers died the whole crew brushed it under the carpet apart from a quick announcement and a note in the cabin.

  8. Dismiss the fantastically, gushing, wonderful reviews. Dismiss the completely awful, nit picking, complain about everything reviews. Take a random selection of the rest and you won't go far wrong.

  9. Recently paid in full for a European cruise for September. This is a special trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We are nervous with the current state of affairs in Europe. and are conflicted as to whether we should still go. We have trip insurance but does not cover cancel for any reason. If we cancel we will be out $2500.

Would appreciate others thoughts as to still taking our trip.

Cancel - and send me the tickets....

  10. Wales4ever - I am also on this cruise and having a political group onboard was causing some concern. I tried getting details from the group organizer and was told due to privacy, they couldn't tell me anything. I voiced my concerns with my TA, she contacted HAL and got some info from them. It would look to be under 200 people (so less than 10%) of the ship and they won't be using any public spaces - just meeting rooms.

Not sure of that helps or not. I am still undecided about the cruise, but my dates are limited.

I searched for this group and emailed them earlier today. I have just received a reply from them: "Typically there are between 200 - 300 participants." So a fair amount of them. Their site also says that they will ALL be on late dining.
