  1. Its the same with Cardiff airport. They keep on doing surveys as to why its under used. The answer is simple. It costs way too much! Even after factoring the added costs of petrol and the Severn bridge toll fee (which is another rip off) its still way cheaper to fly from Bristol or even Gatwick.

  2. Just checked my bank statement and I have been refunded for the a la cart restaurant :) SO the soup is on Thomson lol

So my cruise bill was 97p 95 for a can of coke plus 2p for the credit card charge.

Does any other cruise line charge a credit card fee for you on board account?

  3. WE actually booked this cruise for the same reason - we knew what we were getting as we have sailed Thomson a few times before. Also the itinerary. Unfortunately we did not get what we expected. We had a huge shock to see how far downhill they have gone. And yes, each to their own. Did I mention that we booked the Le Bistro @ £19.95 each? I had the strangest French onion soup ever, ate half of it and we left. So we ended up paying 20 quid for half a bowl of soup.

If you have only ever sailed with Thomson or/and only stayed in low grade hotels with poor food then you will find no fault with this ship.

Yes its clean. Our cabin was actually fine. But that's about it. Sorry to all you die hard Thomson fans. The only light areas of a dark dismal ship were the staircases!

Also the pools were only filled on 3 of the 7 days.

  4. Well I could have complained to reception about the food after every meal. But I would have wasted a whole lot of our holiday doing that! Cold cooked chips left around in trays to be re-heated??? Buffet food at breakfast - sausages, bacon, hash browns, re heated in warming fridge sized things so breakfast was never fresh. It all looked and tasted like yesterdays food as it was left around for so long. Very, very surprising no one was ill.

The whole ship gave of a negative aura. It was dark, dingy and somewhat claustrophobic. Like I said apart from the cleanliness, there was NO good feature about the whole ship. Even the layout was strange. As if rooms were added on a whim.

There were staff arranging bowls on a main corridor! So you has to walk across the game to go where you needed. The a la cart restaurant for example very strange, the "polo club" was just a corridor.

I Have never seen so many unhappy passengers.

And no - I am not new to Thomson, this was our fourth Thomson cruise, but most definitely our last. I could go on and on but I have work to go to in a few days time...

  5. Came back this evening from the Majesty. I have to agree that the food was the worse I have ever encountered on any cruise. Have been on a out 20 cruises including 3 previous on Thomson. Buffet poor, limited choice. Main dining room VERY poor quality. Only saving grace was the ship was clean and our outside plus cabin was ok. Never again with Thomson.

  6. Quite true. By nature all cruise ships are profit driven. From the moment you board they are trying to sell you something - from drinks packages, to photo packages, spa treatments, restaurants etc.

I would not like to guess how much the ships doctor is getting paid - rather more than the cabin stewards no doubt lol and they are definitely NOT going to rely on tips....

  7. The only way they would be able to "become a leading cruise operator in Europe"

Is to scupper the whole fleet and purchase ( no way could they afford to do it) or lease new ships. Thus making their prices even higher than they are now and pricing themselves out of the market.

  8. Received yet another invoice via email yesterday evening - strange being it was sunday tried to log in to my cruise again and it worked this time. I was able to book and pay for our excursions online, which was good.

So, car park all booked, trips booked, drinks paid for, everything paid for - I think.

June holiday all booked, browsing now for September and Christmas cruises.

  9. I am not "loyal" to any cruise company. I simply book cruises on destination, fitting in with my holidays and price. The ship or company is of little importance really.

I talk to people all the time on ships and get told that they only cruise with Royal C or Celebrity or Thomson as they are "the best" ...then they tell me that they have only ever cruised with 2 companies. 10/12 cruises and maybe 10 with the same cruise line.

How do they know what is the best? There are dozens of cruise companies out there - try them all! How do you know that ****** line is better than &&&&& if you have not sailed on them? Apart from size and age there is no HUGE difference between them is there...............

  10. We'll wales4ever, it's only the Germans that would understand what the hell your saying as welsh is a language on its own, :D

If language was a problem no one would travel abroad for holidays would they?

Incidentally, does Scotland not have its own language, so keep from the silly remarks.

  11. Sailed with them both. Three times on each. Sailing on Majesty in Feb. Apprehensive to say the least. Glad we have the drinks package - may make everything seems fine.

Only real let down with Thomson is

1: The small ancient ships. Though on our last Celeb cruise that ship was poor.

2: Way too many British people on board.... People moan about "foreigners" when their on holiday. I would rather spend a holiday/cruise with hotel/ship full of Germans or Americans than one full of British.

Booked this for the price only. Not expecting much at all, so maybe be pleasantly surprised. Again, the drinks package may come in handy on that score.

  12. When I try to log into my cruise or to go to manage my booking my ref number is never recognised. I booked via telephone from the Thomson cruises website. I phone as I wanted to pre book a cabin.

After a call to Thomson, I am told I apparently booked through a Thomson shop in Southampton and as such I cannot log in?????

Strange as I have never been there before...

  13. The same applied 2 years ago on a previous cruise with Royal C sailing into Singapore. When we found out the huge tax that would be applied to our spirits when we left the ship, we took our purchases back to the on board shop for a refund the night before we disembarked.

  14. This is not a new thing and Celebrity should be telling its customers this.

But, they are willing to sell you however many bottles of spirit on-board from its shops without telling you....apart from the note they give you on the last night telling you of the huge charges you will receive when you get off the ship in Singapore.

On the flight home someone told me that at customs in Singapore when you leave the ship passengers were charged around $30 tax on a bottle of JD - similar to the actual on-board price! Huge racks of spirits being left at the port.... for some passengers who were staying on in Singapore to help themselves to and pay the tax and make themselves a killing on other passengers behalf.
