UUnet Bill,
truly excellent ideas and details of improving the Navigator. It always felt way too crowded for us and we won’t go on it again.
We are Mariner fans for many reasons. Explorer feels too closed in from the sea. Nice restaurants though.

Not COVID related.

Steve, I reread what you said about the companies probably discontinuing the refunding. However, if it is written in the contract that they will do so, I think that is more ironclad than a notice on the website that they are refunding the premium.
I believe as well that this generosity, if not mandated, may not last.

Hi Steve,
The policy was purchased at the end of January so this wouldn’t qualify for the look back period, if I am understanding you correctly.
Tomorrow I will comb the policy very carefully to find the above quoted provision and if there is nothing about a refund I think I will call them and inquire. If there is no chance of a premium refund, I will probably file a claim for a medical issue that has arisen. Ugh. I don’t enjoy tussling with insurance companies.
Thank you for your thoughts. I much appreciate it. -
Whoa! That’s really a tough position to be in. I’ll be interested in what you do. Best to you.

You just can’t win. Watch for TG or charge you a little bit more on your next cruise because of this and that. Roll it over if you need or want to make a switch to yet another cruise and a bit more is charged. Pretty soon it becomes very expensive coverage.
I am learning way too much about travel insurance too!

You needn’t be apologetic. Cruising is great for people who have some physical limitations and want to have vacations, see the world a bit, eat well, and enjoy ship activities. Cruising is often the only viable option.
Those folks who are so robust and rip-roaring and just can’t stand those slower fellow cruisers? What the heck are they doing on a wussy cruise ship anyway?

Thank you for your response. I am so sorry that your husband is undergoing this. May things get better for you both.

Thank you for your response, Papaflamingo.
l know the insurance doesn’t cover anything to do with the virus, either the fear of or the contraction of it. I was just curious if the premium would be refunded if the cruise line cancelled. It doesn’t seem right to me that they would keep 100% of that premium. That premium could be well into the thousands.
I have frequently rolled over premium payments from one cruise to another when I change my mind. Now the FCC is way too risky for us.
I always have purchased insurance two weeks after deposit for the pre-existing coverage. Too much can happen between times! As we all know now. 😢

Wish I’d known of you before! 🙂

Thank you, Steve. My premium is screamingly high so I’m not sure the company would voluntarily refund it ( rolled over many times plus final payment for upcoming cruise.) Always purchased within 15 days after cruise deposit for pre existing condition waiver.
Now something’s come up so probably will go that route.

You would think though that it is something that WOULD be put in a contract one way or the other. People who write contracts think of everything I assumed.
-
Thank you Roger88. I will try that although online only might be available.
-
Very nice of Allianz. I do not find this issue addressed even in the contract.
Odd, isn’t it?
-
MadMarine, May I ask which company this is?
-
Mad marine, thanks. Did you find that statement in the contract? Well, probably not as it seems specific to the coved 19 virus. I’ll research it a bit more. Somewhere.
-
I know you can move insurance to another cruise but I’d rather have the refund. It doesn’t seen right the insurance company would keep your whole premium if you yourself didn’t cancel. They are then insuring absolutely nothing.
-
Quite so, TC. Thank you for saying this.
-
Does anyone know if the insurance company refunds your premium if Regent cancels your cruise? I am unable to find anything about this.
-
Also, if medically not possible.

Thanks again for your help. I wish I could talk with them. Sigh.
-
Thank you, Dave. That’s it! Oh, how I wish I had used him for my upcoming, fully paid for cruise! The person I purchased through just simply refers me to the policy issuer, rather than provide the guidance that Steve and his agents do. A complicated issue for me to grapple with of course.
-
Boblerm, somewhere you posted a link to an insurance company, Steve someone, owner. I cannot now find that link. I’d be very grateful if you could post it again.
thanks!

Yes I believe the March-April cancellations were government mandated.
Since Canada has closed their ports it seems ethically dicey to wait until the day of sailing to cancel. The FCC is not an option for those who may be medically at the end of their cruising days.Thank you for your response. Appreciate it.
Insurance premium refunded if cruise cancelled?

Yes, I understand.
