  1. Someone posted part of my comment above stating that my wife and i are in our early 50s and prefer a more traditional cruise which is very true, however, the rest of my post went on to say my 16-19yo prefer a RCL/NCL type of cruise and my wife and I have 'outgrown' that so we are hoping the Apex is a good mix of both. According to what im reading here, its sounds like it may be. Could be a good niche for families with older kids. Good thread. thx
  2. Good video and a similar one got our two teenage boys, 19/16yo, on board with Celebrity Apex. They too were concerned about the demographic, but after watching some of the youtube videos from past travelers, they are now excited. Hopefully it will be a good mix. My wife and I are early 50s and prefer the more traditional cruise, but understand that the one we just off, Silhouette, may be a little boring for them.
  3. OMG, you are spot on. We were in Aqua right under the pool deck earlier this month on Silhouette. The chair shuffle in the morning was horrible. Our morning 6am wakeup call...
  4. I saw reference to a Premium plus drink package on another post that included mini bar and some other perks. Is that no longer offered? I don't see it on our pre cruise options. thx
  5. Can i ask if they wanted cash or were you able to put it on your credit card? Just curious, i havent taken a taxi in years because either dont take credit cards, or pressure you to use cash. wondering if things are finally changing with them. thx
  6. Is it possible to upgrade an existing reservation a month prior to a cruise? We are cruising at the end of dec on apex and i noticed today the prices have definitely come down, especially on the suites. Has anyone upgraded their cabins so close to the sail date and if so, how? Through your TA, Or directly with Celebrity? Ive never upgraded a cabin after the final payment so im not sure how or if its even possible. thx
  7. we asked the same thing for our cruise a couple weeks ago. We didnt call but rather upgraded at guest services when we boarded and yes, i know the bar tenders get some time of bonus if you upgrade with them, but guest services were able to give us new cards on the spot when they did the upgrade which was nice. I think it was $15ish extra per day.
  8. Yikes, thats concerning. Anyone have better luck with a towncar service and if so, any recommendations? thx
  9. Just a heads up, Guest Services on our Silhouette cruise a couple weeks ago did not have change. I thought this to be very odd, and tried several time. By the third time, they knew i was getting frustrated and they went drawer to drawer to find me some. Casino sounds like a much better option, not sure why they didnt point me in that direction.
  10. Actually, that was our main concern on our NCL cruise last year given our kids were 18 and 15 in their own cabin and they were now on a different floor with our upgrade. No one said a word about it pre cruise and during our boarding. During about day 3, i asked our butler why no one said anything about our kids saying in a cabin on a different floor than ours and he said no one cares unless someone complains. Meaning our kids were bring loud or disruptive at night. I actually asked him if that was similar on other cruise lines given we cruise RCL a year earlier and he said yes, there is nothing automatic calling out people under 18 in their systems after the initial booking and they get upgraded. In regards to Concierge room getting us priority service at the restaurants, this is why we were looking at it. Per their website. 11. Has anyone been upgraded using move up with 2 cabins and if so, did they keep them relatively close together? We currently have side by side cabins with our 2 sons, 19 and 16yo and would like to put a big on concierge class cabins, but are worried about being far away from them if we do that. The cabins are linked so i was wondering if that maybe helps keep them somewhat together? We dont care if they are side by side, but would like to keep them on the same floor if possible. We did this last year on NCL and got the upgrade, but they ended up on a floor below us. Understandably though because we went from a balcony to penthouse suites and there are only 4 of those on each floor of the ship we were on. This time we arent trying to change the room type, just add concierge so we hopefully have better luck getting some of the times we want at the restaurants. thx
  12. Unless your dropping thousands at the casino, thats is an awesome deal. Even it it is a couple thousand, its still a heck of a deal for 9 night aqua class cabin.
  13. Now im kicking myself because according to this thread, it doesnt take much if anything to get a BCC. We have a cruise at the end of Dec. on Apex so ill give it a try, maybe spend a little more than usual and see if anything happens. Does anyone know if they have video poker at the bars in the casino on Apex? Thats where we usually spend most of the time in the casino but we were on Silhouette a couple weeks ago, they didnt have video poker at the casino bars which i think is the first time on a cruise ship i havent seen that. Maybe i missed it somewhere else? thx
  14. To tack a question on to this, how much do you typically have to spend in the Casino to get one of these offers? My wife and I arent big gamblers, couple hundred per cruise, but thats all cash so its not tracked. Maybe i should be using my ship account to gamble? thx
  15. Thanks. we did 1 a week or so ago, no luck. 2 is our plan right when we get on. thanks again
  16. From the Website. Celebrity Apex® offers not one but four complimentary main restaurants—Normandie, Tuscan, Cosmopolitan, and Cyprus. Every restaurant features the same mouthwatering menu that changes nightly, plus each one offers its own ambience, along with a selection of exclusive, regionally inspired dishes and drinks. So of course this prompted another question... Someone mentioned above that with the set time dining that we have, we would be assigned to on of the 4 MDRs. So does that mean if we can talk them into giving us anytime dining we can choose any of those dining rooms each night? Sorry, i know im over thinking this, but our kids really look forward to the dinners at night for some reason. Guess we dont take them out enough... thanks
  17. Thanks for all the info. Very helpful. One more question, it looks like Apex has 4 MDR options so does that mean at our set dining time, we can choose any of the 4?
  18. Very good point on connections. We actually live in Greensboro, NC about 10 miles from the airport, would have to connect so we usually drive to Charlotte or Raleigh to avoid the connections. Curious what company you use to ship your luggage? thx
  19. Silhouette was our first Celebrity cruise and we are hooked. We booked Apex next month for a holiday cruise. Normally we go on RCL or NCL, but the 'smaller' ship was great because it was easier for us to navigate and the service was outstanding. I will say its definitely one of the more relaxing cruises we have been on is a while. The ship also seemed to be in really good shape, think new looking and very clean. We have cruised newer NCL and RCL ships that weren't in that good of shape. Guess the larger ships are beat up more the all of the additional passengers? The food also seems better than the other lines. The restaurants were smaller and i think had better service because of it, but the buffet also seemed a bit more upscale. Overall, wonderful ship, would definitely sail her again.
  20. We booked a last minute cruise on Silhouette earlier this month after our VRBO got unexpectedly cancelled in Miami so we already had flights booked. However, it was departing the day of the cruise which we have never done before, but given in was a 7am flight, we decided to give it a try. We live in NC and were flying out of Raleigh which we are about 1.5 hours away from so our day started at 2:30am to get on the road by 3:30. After a very restless night, we were on the road and keeping our fingers crossed we didn't have any car trouble. ie, hitting a deer at that early time... We arrived at the airport to find a huge security line which took about 30-40 min to get through. Stressful to say the least. Plane departed on time and we were relieved. We arrived in Miami around 9 and were at the pier around 11 after getting our luggage and uber. There was a delay getting on the ship because it came from europe so i guess there were other customs steps they had to go through. Boarded around 12:45. Success! However, by about 4pm, we both hit a wall and pretty much just wanted to go back to the room and sleep, but we knew we wouldn't get up so we trudged through dinner and were back in the room by around 8. So moral of the story is even with a pretty flawless flight, its still extremely stressful. Im a worrier, and our afternoon and night on the first day was pretty much shot because of fatigue form the early morning, stress, etc. I know im stating the obvious here, but we always asked ourselves when we book a cruise if we should consider flying in the day of departure because of kids school, work etc, but now that we have tried it, we will never do it again. Painful...
  21. We weren't unable to get anytime dining on our Apex cruise next month and had to take set time dining at 6pm. We haven't had set time dining in years, probably 10+, and were wanted to ask what the process is because we always see a line of people waiting to get into the restaurants and we are really not looking forward to that. Does anyone know if we will be turned away if we arrive 10-15 minutes late to let the line die down a bit? And assuming this only applies to the main dining rooms and we can make reservations at the speciality restaurants at any time? We called Celebrity to try to change to anytime, but they said they weren't able to. Guess there's a capacity limit?? We are going to attempt to change it when we board to anytime to fingers crossed. These last minute cruise bookings we have been doing lately aren't without their challenges...
  22. We saw this done on Silhouette a couple weeks ago around the pool. Was pretty common and actually practical if you drink beer because they dont have beer in the insulated aluminum cans so they poor it into a regular plastic cup and im sure it gets warm quickly. Were not beer drinkers so it wouldn't have benefitted us, but there were quite a few people doing it.
  23. They will hold the ship for them if the tour is delayed?
  24. Ah, i missed that but its exactly what i was looking for. Thank you for the info.
  25. Thank you for the replies. I should have asked this in the original question, but do you know if the private journeys are tied to the cruise ship, meaning the ship wont leave us if for some reason they run late? We have booked excursions outside of our cruises in the past, but its a stressful day given there isnt a big incentive for them to have us back on time. I dont mind paying a premium if its tied to the ship. thx
