It’s a guideline for those that don’t care about maintaining some pretty reasonable standards, many of which keep us coming back to Windstar. For those that DO CARE, consider it a rule

If the cruise line doesn't enforce it, then it is a guideline. Frankly, I wear what I want and I am comfortable with that. I care about the service and food/drink on board in the restaurants- what other people wear isn't my business.

  2. Is it a rule or a guideline?

"Just as you would dress at an elegant resort. Clothes that are light and cool, made of natural fabrics like cotton, silk, and linen, are most appropriate. For women's daytime wear, we suggest walking shorts, skirts, sarongs, lightweight tops and cover-ups; for evening wear, sun dresses, pants, and informal cocktail attire. Men's daytime wear: walking/ Bermuda shorts, polo shirts, khaki pants; in the evening, lightweight trousers and short-sleeved dress/polo shirts. No suits or ties. And no shorts, flip-flops, jeans, hats or t-shirts in Amphora or Candles during the evening. "

  3. Last summer I was actually offered free WiFi on our cruise as long as I tweeted and Instagram everyday with #WindstarCruises.  That was pretty cool. I follow Windstar on both platforms and always like their posts. Prior to our cruise I made it clear that we were planning on posting daily updates. And they caught on to it and compt for the service.

    Cruising again in October....

    I definitely check weekly!

We booked the 7-day leg from San Diego to PV, we originally booked at $2800 (minus alumni discount) with $200 OBC per cabin. Now the same cabin is $1900 under the Mothers Day sale. The price drop outweighs losing the OBC so I am going to rebook. I tried to under the Get Going sale but was told it was a flash sale and payment in full was required at that time and no cancellations.

    See ya on board!

  5. After booking my cruise, I check the website weekly for any specials. For example- I booked our next cruise in December 2018, the per person price was $4599, on 3/6/19 it went to $4299, 3/27/19- $3799, 4/3/19- $3299- (Re-booked it at each  of the previous changes.

Some had perks attached, so you need to factor in those things as well. For example- the current price for our cruise is $2999, yes a $300 decrease- but with the perks we received on the earlier booking it isn't worth it.

    Watch the fares!

  6. I have never seen this before. We booked a 15 day cruise for October, so we received the free laundry, and at the time of booking they were offering free gratuities, so that base is covered- we normally do buy the alcohol package- it is less of a hassle.

We probably would do this if we were not on a 14 day or longer cruise. (without the perks)

  7. We did the 4-day Long Beach/Catalina, Ensenada, at sea cruise in October while I was recovering from neck surgery. Having done Windstar 13 times, this was our first experience Carnival.... we got what we paid for. Booze Cruise. It's kinda like spending 4 days in Laughlin Nevada, it ain't Vegas- same crowd and vibe.

We had been to Catalina a bunch of times, so we didn't get off the ship, in Ensenada we did the wine tour, that was okay- you can get some cheap wine ($6 a bottle) that is still drinkable.

Lots of kids and families. We bought the booze package (which was more than the cost of the cruise) but it was worth it.

  8. Looking at the updated wine list, they still have a decent wine list. Something for everyone. Last Summer we did 15 days in the Med, it was very warm and we really enjoyed a few glasses of the Riff Pinot Grigio following a day exploring. The Sparkling wines on the list are all very nice for those sail away, and the Ancient Peaks Merlot, Hangtime Pinot Noir and the Silver Totem Cabernet Sauvignon are all wonderful wines to enjoy with a hearty dinner.

We will be getting the beverage package for our October cruise on the legend.

  9. We did the drink package last summer, and I think it was well worth it.

Daily we had a glass of wine at lunch (or two)

Champagne at sail away (or two)

    Dinner 2-3 glasses of wine

Hanging out in the Compass Rose after dinner one or two more.

The wine list does change onboard too- we ran them out of a few wines but they substituted the next wine up the list.

  10. We usually book our tours through Windstar. I like the ease of having the vacation all in one package. The only times we did our own tour things on our last Windstar cruise was one of friends wanted to drive a Ferrari in Monte Carlo, and while in Sorrento we did our own tour to Capri.
