  1. @CntPAcruiser We are docking at Frederiksted. Where do you get a shuttle to Christiansted and where did you taste rum? And the beach you went to was within walking distance to the ship? It is so hard to find any info on St Croix. We will be there in March of 2023. Thank you
  2. I understand, but to pay 20 some dollars a day for a 5 min log in to check email just seems ridiculous. It was so much better when you could just get the minute packages. I still might have to, just wondered if someone has used their provider.
  3. Headed on a 15 day TA from Rome, plus an extra 3 days on the front end.. I just can not go that long without making sure all is well at home. πŸ˜† Dh and I are Diamond so I think I get 2 - 24 hr periods of free internet, but that leaves a long time uncovered. I have Verizon so I have been looking at International calling plans. They offer an international plan for $20 for 50 mb of data that can be used on the ship. That sure doesn't seem like much. The price of internet is ridiculous on the ship. All I really need it for is to check email daily to make sure all is well at home. Maybe to research or clarify a tour. Has anyone done this as opposed to the ship's internet? I will have to figure out the other separate plan for when I am on land. Thank you for your help.
  4. Do you need to have reservations or can you just go up for a cocktail? I also read - someone recommended go up there for breakfast which also sounds delightful to me. Their website doesn't give me a lot of information. Do you know if they still do breakfast.? @RTR 21-0 I ended up booking the Hotel Smeraldo, a room with a balcony, that looks very nice. It might not be to your liking but that is one that CruiseMom also mentioned. I have since found an amazing Airbnb within a block of the that hotel but closer to the Pantheon, so I'm going to cancel the Hotel. Sacrificing close to metro for location to everything else.
  5. I'm excited about this. Didn't realize there would be anything like this leaving from Europe. We will be on the Oct '23 cruise of the Odyssey. One more thing to be excited.
  6. I always use insuremytrip. You can pick how much coverage and what scenarios you'd like. Then you can choose your insurance company that fit the bill.
  7. Wow, It has taken me 4 days to finally get through to the end of this thread. lol So much valuable information. I have been painstakingly researching hotels. I don't have the budget that y'all do, so though I would like to splurge on many hotels recommended here, I just can't. I wanted a decent hotel that was convenient to the metro and had either a balcony or an outdoor space. I want to be able to comfortably walk outside at night and have access to good restaurants - again, budget friendly. I am currently booked at the Rome Central Guest House. It was as far away from the Metro as I wanted to be, but still able to get to the Colosseum (which is important) and the Central Rome area. Figured we could take the Metro to the Vatican (if we wanted). Also was planning on taking train from the airport to hotel and to Frascati for a WInery tour. After reading, we probably won't take the train to the ship. Too much of a hassle and we are in our late 60's and mid 70's though capable. What has caused me to question this choice of location is wanting to do an evening tour of the Central Rome area (or just on our own). So I am now leaning towards Hotel Smeraldo. It ticks off a lot of boxes except not near the Metro and over budget (which I think is worth it). Does anyone know how the Rome Central Guest House is or it's location? I know that location, location, location is important. My dh is very uninterested in historical things, I hate to say it... I'm dragging him along. LOL..He will be somewhat interested for a while. We will be there for 2 days plus the day we arrive and the day we head to the port. This is so overwhelming as I just spent 2 months researching Copenhagen and getting really excited about the Arbnb I found and finally understanding the city. Then Royal Caribbean cancelled the cruise, so now I am at square one. BTW, this is for late October 2023 but i'm an early planner.
  8. Hi! I think we are on the same cruise. The Odyssey? I think part of the problem is that not all the bookings for Oct 23 have opened up yet. I like you have been looking closer to the "action" but I also want to be fairly close to the Metro, and also have a somewhat limited budget. I would like to stay around $150/night. I have booked at the Roma Central Guest House (booking dot com) and they have 2 rooms right now that would fit your need. I don't have a clue if the accommodations are any better and just a few minutes closer. FWIW
  9. Thank you so much!! I hope something will open up. I've never done a TA either. All sorts of new things. πŸ˜„
  10. I was originally booked on the Serenade for the Arctic Crossing that got cancelled. We were given a handful of cruises we could change to and I chose this one. I had a 4D cabin and the best I could get was a 5D. I am currently booked in 10302 but though I might want to be a little more mid-ship? I have only traveled the Radiance and Voyager class ships and once on the Freedom. Which cabin do you think would be better, thinking there may be rough seas? I usually do 8 or 9 on our cruises. Thank you.
  11. What a great idea to leave the big luggage. Thank you so much. I didn't even realize you could do that. I have been to Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland, on driving vacations. This is a totally different experience.
  12. My dh and I am taking a cruise from Civitavecchia next October. It is a TA so unfortunately it does not go south. I would love to experience the Amalfi Coast prior to the cruise. What I was thinking was to fly into Naple (the closest) and either stay there and take a tour that goes south along the coast or fly to Naples and go to Amalfi for a couple of days and then head to Rome for a couple of days prior to the cruise. BTW it is a 15 day cruise so there will be 2 suitcases (and we are seniors). Is this a totally off the wall? Has anyone done this? Is this doable? TYIA
  13. 😞 That’s what I’m afraid of and I think it’s about $500. My old TA always had someone cover his messages. This person took his place and apparently does not have coverage. I’ve emailed and left a general message to the agency. πŸ˜–
  14. Does anyone know if you can call the cruise line directly for a price drop if you booked through a TA. It looks like I have a price drop but my TA is out until Sunday. Don't want to miss out.
  15. Reading this, i am curious too because I am on that September 10th sailing.
  16. That's what I was going to say... about Gator anyway.. Tastes like chicken πŸ€£πŸ”
  17. I have contacted Iceland Everywhere for or 2023 cruise and they have been awesome to work with. We have 26 booked already. https://www.icelandeverywhere.is/destination/iceland/tours-for-cruise-ship-passengers/
  18. After reading on here about IET and Saga tours, I contacted them for September 2023 and got a response back from both of the them in less them in 24hrs.
  19. Interesting. Thank you for posting that. Sorry you had such bad luck. That was a lot to lose. 😞
