  1. Good morning all. (It’s Friday here). No groundhogs here in Australia but I heard on the local radio that our zoo used one of the meerkats instead. Unfortunately he predicted that the hot, humid weather will continue for another six weeks. Just hoping he is wrong! Best wishes to everyone on the Daily.
  2. It’s New Years Day here in south eastern Australia. Overcast, but warm. Best wishes to everyone on the Daily for a healthy and happy 2023.
  3. It’s Christmas Day already here in south eastern Australia, so Seasons Greetings to all the Dailyites! Thank you to all who contribute to the Daily, I lurk on the sidelines and read it avidly every day. It’s going to be a warm day here, so will be thinking of all the Dailyites who are affected by the atrocious cold weather in the U.S. Blessings to all.
  4. We were lucky enough to be in Sydney yesterday and down by the Opera House when the Noordam was leaving for the trip around Australia. It was a beautiful day and a wonderful sight to see. There was a tug attached by a line at the stern and it looked quite funny, as if it was being towed by the ship! The captain gave a loud toot as the ship went under the bridge. 5. It’s 1.40 am and I couldn’t sleep, so got up to have some hot chocolate and to read for a while. I’m so glad I did, because the news that Shadow has been found and was back in @kazu’s house is the most wonderful news. Blessings for Liz, Jacqui and Shadow.
  6. Good morning everyone. Bright and sunny here after a chilly night. DH and I are avid readers. We prefer books and not kindles. We use a website called Fantastic Fiction, which lets us know when our favourite authors have a new book published. There is no longer a book shop in our town so we have to order most books on line. My favourites are anything by Michael Connolly, especially the Harry Bosch series. Nelson de Mille, Jeffery Deaver and Kathy Reichs are other favourites. Detective stories and forensic science I find fascinating. The Chet and Bernie series by Spencer Quinn are wonderful ‘doggy’ stories. Our bookshelves are already bulging, so any novels we don’t want to keep go down to the local library. They either put them on the shelves or sell them for a few dollars and use the money to buy books for the library. The table by my chair in the living room is piled high with books at the moment. There needs to be more hours in the day to read more! Best wishes to all.
  7. The Daily appears on my ipad about 9pm, and by the time we get up the next morning there are many posts to read. New York and Miami are 14 hours behind us and Los Angeles and Vancouver are 17 hours behind us. Until the clocks change in spring and autumn. It is all very confusing and I rely entirely on the clock on my iPad. It is late afternoon here now and quite cold, DH and I are relaxing with our electric throw rug over our knees! Best wishes to all.
  8. Good afternoon from south coast NSW. We visited Warnemunde in June 2018 whilst on a Baltic cruise on the Zuiderdam. It is a pretty little town and you can easily take the local train to Rostock. We didn’t fancy the long drive to Berlin. It was a beautiful sunny day, with a brisk breeze . The sandy beach is huge and there are hundreds of wind break little shelters. Rostock has a lovely ‘old’ town centre which was rebuilt in the old style after the war. We hoped to visit the Stasi Museum there, but it was closed for renovations. H And now for Rostock Best wishes to everyone on the Daily. I read it every day, and feel as though I know so many of you.
  9. We have sailed to Alaska in early June and late September. We were lucky to have reasonable weather both times, apart from heavy rain in Juneau in June. We actually preferred the early June sailing as there was still snow around, particularly on the White Pass train trip. Also the approaches to Glacier Bay, as I remember were all snow covered in June. On the September trip I did not think the scenery was as atmospheric, and somehow not as beautiful. Although Glacier Bay at any time of the year is just amazing. One advantage of going in late September is there are a lot of bargains to be had in the shops. We bought some beautiful local greeting cards in Juneau and Ketchikan. Having said all this however, I would happily jump at the chance to go back to Alaska at any time of the year!
  10. We really enjoyed Top Gun too. The flying scenes are fabulous. My brother was a fighter pilot when he was younger, I am always in awe of how clever he must be! We tended to think of him as just an annoying little brother. Best Wishes to all.
  11. Barkskins. By Annie Proulx. It’s quite a big book, but a great read.
