  1. Bruno, Very sad to hear that your Dad has died. You have been a wonderful son and carer for your Dad. May he rest in peace.
  2. Some lovely kittens to brighten everyone’s day.
  3. Good evening everyone. We were in Lerwick in July last year, on the beautiful Rotterdam. Lerwick was a substitute port for a cancelled port in Norway, whose name escapes me! It was a grey day, with occasional sunshine and we walked around town, and found a wonderful bookshop. We were greeted by these school students on arrival. This is the house featured in the TV show Shetland Outside the Opticians The tenders Some of the beautiful flowers outside the Information Centre, which had the best selection of quality souvenirs. Best wishes to all.
  4. It’s 7.15 on New Years Day morning here in Australia. I would like to wish all the Dailyites a very happy and healthy New Year. Reading the Daily each day has kept us all connected in the most amazing way and I feel as though we have a wonderful circle of friends. Best wishes to everyone.
  5. It’s lunch time on Christmas Day here in south east Australia. It’s raining and windy, very unlike the usual weather depicted for Christmas in Australia! Reading the Daily each day has been a real pleasure and would like to wish all of the Dailyites a Happy Christmas and a happy and healthy 2024.
  6. Good evening all. We were in Stockholm on the Zuiderdam in June 2018. If you do get to go to Stockholm then visit the Vasa museum, it was one of the most fascinating museums I have ever visited. Stockholm is a beautiful city, very walkable and the Ho Ho boats are a great way of getting around as well. Best wishes to all.
  7. Good evening everyone. We were in Honnigsvag a small city on Mageroya Island in July this year, on a 14 day cruise to Norway on the Rotterdam. We took a private tour to the North Cape and had the best weather of the cruise. It was very crowded. We also saw herds of reindeer and stopped at a Sami camp and saw a charming man in his National dress with a reindeer on a lead! There is a wonderful statue of Sea Dog Bamse outside the information centre near the dock. His story is worth googling. It was a wonderful day. Norway is absolutely beautiful. Best wishes to all.
  8. Good evening everyone from far south coast Australia. I have some photos from our Maasdam cruise in 2017 of our day in Pago Pago. It was one of the most memorable days of the cruise. We took a ride on a local bus that was cruising the road looking for passengers. The driver was great, and took us all over the island. Apart from Pago Pago, we went to Leone, where there was a very moving memorial to those lost in a tsunami in 2009. American Samoa is a beautiful place. Best wishes to all.
  9. Amsterdam was very crowded, and Schiphol Airport was an absolute nightmare. We missed our connection in Frankfurt because of the queues of people being herded through border control. Ports in Norway were busy, but did not feel overwhelming. If we ever come to Europe again we will choose the off season!
  10. @StLouisCruisers the new font is great. I can read the smaller one but find the slightly larger one easier on the old eyes! Thank you for all your hard work with the Daily, it is much appreciated. Best wishes to all.
  11. Good morning all. We will be sending a weeks worth of pre cruise laundry as soon as we get on the Rotterdam. We have never used the service before. Will my husband’s shirts come back ironed? Used to love the self service laundry on the Maasdam and Volendam, but it will be great not to have to do any laundry while on a cruise! Bestt wishes to all.
  12. @kazu Please don’t stop posting memes. Your contribution and the other memes posted, particularly the hcat ones, are very appreciated. I often send them on to my brother. Bless you for giving Ivan a home. My brother adopted an elderly dog whose owner was going into a nursing home. All older dogs deserve a comfortable ‘retirement’. Best wishes to all.
  13. Today, May 4, is also International Firefighter’s Day, and St Florian Day. “St Florian is the patron saint of firefighters. Florian (250-304AD) was a high ranking Roman Army officer in the Roman province of Noricum. His superiors said he was good with people, a real problem solver, and a dedicated hard- worker. Roman firefighters belonged to the Equestrian Class (Knight). They were highly trained and paid. Distinguished from the regular Roman soldiers by their green tunics. Florian died for his Christian faith, making him a Martyr and elevated him to patron to all things in the prevention of danger from fire.” DH is a volunteer firefighter and I am very proud of him and all his brigade.
  14. Absolutely agree that you can enjoy Tallinn on your own. We visited in June 2018 and walked from the ship to the old town. Beautiful old buildings, and some amazing window displays in the shops. The little cats and owls are made from marzipan. It was extremely cold though, even in June.
  15. It is just after 7pm Sunday evening here, and I am childishly thrilled to be the first Dailyite to post! Looking forward to the pictures of Eidfjord as we will be visiting there later this year. Thanks to everyone who makes the Daily possible. Best wishes to all.
  16. Good morning everyone from south eastern Australia. It’s a beautiful sunny morning and 19 degrees Celsius. Not bad for an Autumn morning! I don’t post often but read the Daily every day. The first posts come through just as we are getting ready for bed. When we get up in the morning there are four or five pages to read while we have breakfast. I used to be a volunteer firefighter and rescue operator but am now too old and too unfit! Now I volunteer in the primary school canteen. It’s great fun and the children are so polite and sweet. Kindergarten to year six, so 5 to 11 or 12 year olds. Today, we are going to take our lunch and go and look at the sea for a while. We sometimes sit down at the beach, look at the horizon and pretend we are on a BHB! Best wishes to all.
  17. Thank you all for your replies. Have just had a very sleepless night thinking about our options, so all your suggestions are very welcome! Thank you.
  18. Thank you for your quick reply. We plan to stay at a hotel at Newark so at least we are in the right spot for our flight the next day. I am probably worrying too much, but would it be better to stay the night near JFK and go to Newark in the daytime, rather than in the evening?
  19. Good afternoon everyone. Am looking for some advice from people who have transferred from JFK to Newark airport. We will be on our way to Amsterdam for a cruise to Norway. We arrive at JFK at 5 o’clock in the evening and leave Newark the following evening. I have found several car services on the Internet but would appreciate some local knowledge about which is a reliable and safe mode of transfer. There will be two of us and two pieces of luggage. Thanks for any suggestions. Best wishes to all.
  20. Looking forward to your reports. This is the trip we really want to do. Maybe next year. Enjoy your cruise.
  21. Back in the 70’s I worked with a girl called Mary. Our junior doctor’s surname was Christmas. Of course we wanted them to get married so we could call her Mary Christmas!! Best wishes to all.
  22. Good morning all. (It’s Friday here). No groundhogs here in Australia but I heard on the local radio that our zoo used one of the meerkats instead. Unfortunately he predicted that the hot, humid weather will continue for another six weeks. Just hoping he is wrong! Best wishes to everyone on the Daily.
  23. It’s New Years Day here in south eastern Australia. Overcast, but warm. Best wishes to everyone on the Daily for a healthy and happy 2023.
