  1. When a professional turns down a tip and says "let me serve you first" you should translate that to say "there is no need to bribe me to get good service, that's insulting". Don't insist they take your money.

    Just my opinion.

I was beginning to think I was missing something here!

I've read quite a few times where people have tipped BEFORE even receiving the services of their room steward and I struggle to understand that. I know I'm a Brit and we Brits are notorious (apparently!) for not understanding the whole tipping culture, but I'm MORE than happy to tip for good service.......just not BEFORE I've had it!

Back to the OP's question....we're the kind of passengers who are happy to see the room steward and pass the time of day but wouldn't be upset if we never saw them......I think that's the sign of a great steward.......doing their job quietly and efficiently and knowing your schedule.

On all 4 of our cruises, our cabins were always made up when we returned from breakfast, never or rarely saw the stewards in our cabin, but often passed them on the hallways and always passed the time of day.

  2. Whaaaaaaat Does that include (what we call) hair straighteners ?????????????

Lol, my reaction would be like yours if I didn't know any better!!

I can't survive in the heat and humidity without my straighteners! :o

I take mine on every trip and haven't had an issue yet.

I think the poster who was told they couldn't bring them was mis-informed.

Like another poster, our room steward wrapped mine up for me more than once! :)

I did, however, use the hairdryer on the Epic and on all our trips on NCL ships and had no problems, but then again, I only have short hair.....longer haired ladies ( and gents, if it applies :) ) may struggle.

  3. Sorry jade from Venice, arriving 23rd May. Not to worried about crowds as only jade and smaller rci ship in at 8am, need to be at Marco polo airport by 11am for flight home.

Is that that you need to ARRIVE at the airport by 11:00am or your FLIGHT leaves at 11:00 am?

When we left the Jade, we got the people mover to Piazzalle Roma and then the bus to the airport. The bus took around 30 minutes, if my memory serves me correctly.

I don't want to sound negative, but I would be a little worried if my flight was leaving at 11:00am.......but I'm a bit of a worrier anyway.....I'd need plenty of *wriggle room* in case something went wrong! That's just me!

  4. I'm another who suffers from motion sickness, but never felt any movement on the Getaway.

We sailed last August and I was on Hurricane look-out for ages beforehand ( but that's just because I'm British and we don't experience them here!)

The very THOUGHT of getting caught up in rough seas had me feeling queasy! :o

I'm sure you will be as fine as I was! :)

  5. Right now, it seems Epic has far bigger issues to get worked on.

 Am I missing something? What have I NOT read about? Would you mind explaining the *bigger issues*?

I'm starting to get a little worried as we sail the Epic BEFORE her dry dock!

Hoping we haven't made a mistake booking her a second time! :(

  6. if you wander with the sea to your left in Cannes you will come to the old town with a walk up the hill to the old castle or fort from where you get some great views over the port

wandering along the beach front there is a line of very upmarket shops

really Cannes lends itself to just wandering around and soaking up the atmosphere even when film festival isn't in town

I agree, but one other thing that we enjoyed was the little train that takes you all around Cannes, What a great way to see the place....10 Euros for about an hour and a half...with running commentary about what you were seeing and a stop at the highest point for picture taking! Highly recommended!

  7.

9- we had reservations at the specialty restaurants and each night there was a minimum 35-40 minute wait

We had reservations at the speciality restaurants 5 nights out of 7 on our Getaway trip and never had any wait time whatsoever (apart from at Le Bistro, but that was a whole other story!) I would say that was very much an out of the ordinary experience that you had there.

  8. I think it's perfectly acceptable to wear your bathrobe on the balcony :p

if you want "Egads", imagine my surprise in Cagney's for VIP breakfast when the lady..ahem, woman staying in the Garden Villa strolled in for breakfast in her robe and nothing else.....as DH put it when she sat down, "yikes, I can see Christmas!"

I need to stop drinking wine as I read CC........2 nights in a row I've lost some over my keyboard!!!

  9. I don't. I carry the ship card and picture ID.

I feel that statistics show that I'll be more likely to lose it or have it stolen than need it ashore. If the data changes, I'll change what I do. However this policy has served me well so far.

With land vacations, it's a toss up. It depends on the type of safe in the room, the stability of the country I'm in and where I'll be traveling while there.

    Lol, are we related? :D

    This is exactly me!!

  10. On ncl jade if there were no tables available in the main dining rooms when you arrived and you had to que they gave you a voucher for a free glass of champagne/ sparkling wine . Do they do this on epic?

Although it's been a while (2012), we were given a pager and a voucher for wine on two separate occasions on the Epic. Each time we went to the bar to exchange our voucher........the pager went off JUST as we got our drinks! Good timing! :)

  11. NCL will read reviews about the carpeting and give the people what they want.

They will call it the UCP. All hallways with split carpeting. One side with 2" foam cushion underneath. For only $6.00 per person per day you can have the Ultimate Carpet Package and get to walk on the cushy carpet for the whole cruise.

And let's just say......DH and I like to hold hands as we walk....so either he or I will be walking on carpet that's not cushy.........even though BOTH of us have paid the UCP.......cos let's face it, NCL will insist that ALL people in the same cabin buy the package.......who shall I complain to in order to get it taken off our bill?

Seriously, that made me splurt my cup of tea over the lap-top, VERY funny!

This whole thread has made me chuckle.....well done to the OP for a good giggle! :D

  12. Although not THAT recent (August 2013) I would agree with SteveH2508, the shows were at 7:30pm and 9:30pm.

The first night show was the Welcome Aboard Show.....and now I look at the Dailies, that was at 9:30pm.......we never made it....too busy chatting during dinner!! :)

Enjoy the Jade, we loved our trip!

  13. I'm with the other posters who say the hairdryers on NCL are good.....I'm another fussy one about my hair! :o

I hadn't ever heard that you COULDN'T use your own hairdryer, but it makes sense that powerful hairdryers could cause a circuit to trip!

I don't bring my own purely because I can add another dress and a pair of shoes in it's place in my suitcase!! ;)

  14. May I ask as to where that idea comes from?

I think that All-ready2cruise meant that there was a website for individual countries to check on advice from their own Governments.

Quoting them like that made it out of context, in my opinion.

If I was computer-savvy enough to multi-quote, I would have put the whole of All-ready2cruise's reply in.....but I'm not, so I hope my response makes sense!! :o
