  1. Even though we had to retrieve 2 suitcases from the Terminal, we were off the ship by 9:00am. But we were staying 2 nights in Venice so had no travel plans for that day.......other than trekking over 2 bridges to our hotel in August heat!!. I think you're wise to book the later train.

Enjoy your trip on the Jade, she's a lovely ship! :)

  2. but I'm a bit puzzled about "walking off with our carry on luggage, I know we can do this sooner" - that is how disembarkation normally happens, you walk off with your carry-ons and collect the rest from the terminal.

If you are referring to walking off with all of your luggage (easy walk-off), that may or may not be available in Venice because of restrictions set by the port authority. When we disembarked last June, it was specifically stated on the disembarkation insturctions that easy walk-off is not available when disembarking in Venice. Don't remember seeing that mentioned in 2013 when we disembarked there last time.

I was wondering about this too and can say as well that our experience on the Jade in August 2013 was the same........easy walk-off was not available in Venice, so unless you ONLY have carry-on baggage, you would have to retrieve your suitcases from the terminal.

  3. Someone in my roll call mentioned that Legends won't be showing on our sailing.

    Can anyone confirm this?

This was the Press Release from NCL about the new entertainment line-up. The date says April 30th though.

And this is a thread that discusses some of the possibilities.....hope that helps a little. :)

  4. We are sailing on the Epic Western Caribbean cruise Feb 1. First time on Epic, have been on a few other Norwegian cruises though. I am wondering if there is a hair dryer in the cabin (I think there portably is!) and if Norwegian still has a wine package.m

Definitely a (very good IMO ) hairdryer in our balcony cabin when we sailed the Epic.

Also, yes, NCL still does the wine package (Viva Vino)

Link to August 2014 Viva Vino list from our Getaway trip below.

    Viva Vino

  5. Too bad, perhaps another time. ;)

Who knows, one day maybe our paths will cross. :)

We'll be exploring your country next year, we'll wave as we sail by, :D .

And we'll be sure to wave right back! Happy cruising! :D

  6. I must adamantly disagree with this statement.

Unless of course you think the day ends after lunch!

(two bottles of wine at lunch is not unheard of)

    LOL

Ummm.. it depends... one person or 2.. no way would it last until lunch if it's 2 :p

I want to cruise with you guys! :D

  7. You have to understand that guy. He is always telling people that he takes off his DSC and he lives in the woods with an out house instead of the toilet he has no running hot water I think he just likes to get everyone's goat I have learned over the past couple of months reading his posts that I think he is full of it and just like to have everyone argue with him for the sake of arguing. Disregard him.

Lol I remember now reading the thread where he was saying he lives in the woods with an out-house. I guess I just don't *get* some of his posts, but we're all different. :)

  8. I would be understanding if 5.75 in US dollars was 8.75 or the equivalent in Euros for a bottle of beer on a cruise but if I'm not mistaken, it still about 5.75 but in Euros - so what exactly is being saved over there in tips?

Sent from my SGH-T399 using Tapatalk

$5.75 is the equivalent of £3.66 in British pounds and 4.62 Euros.

The average price for a pint of beer is £3.00.....and more in larger cities like London and Manchester, so not a real lot being saved. And in restaurants, drinks are even MORE expensive, so it often can be cheaper on the ship! :)

  9. I have NEVER EVER heard of someone taking the 15% off a drink bill EVER

Me neither! I would never even have thought it was possible to do such a thing, hence my (polite) questioning of Ewoodspark as to how they actually were able to do it. Their response seems feasible enough, I just don't think that I would be bold enough to even consider it!

  10. No problem, I respect your question. When presented with the slip of paper, I simply adjusted the "automatic" 15% tip. Not once has it ever been an issue with anybody. I simply state that in my opinion the suggested figure of 15% is too high and my suggested figure is around 10% or make the amount up to a round amount. I simply change the amount and sign. Tips cannot be enforced. The only time I have refused to pay any tip is on sailaway, when they have cans in large buckets. Then I am not prepared to any extra for sombody to hand me a can of beer:)

Just as the discussion is becoming interesting, I have to sign off. Got a plane to catch for a lovely break in Puerto Del Carmen. No 15% tips there !!

    Thank-you for your response.

PS......it's not customary to leave a tip in Spanish restaurants and bars as the service charge is already included! :)

  11. Why hijack? The opening post header is : Tipping w.no drink package

I appreciate that the tip can be increased. Equally so, it can be decreased. Nobody can force anybody to pay a 15% tip.

I have a serious question for you.....please don't flame me!!

If, as you say, nobody can force you to pay a 15% tip, and assuming that you have sailed NCL, what, if anything, did you do about it?

Did you PAY the bar bill as was? Did you pay the bar bill MINUS the 15% tip?

Or did you go to Guest Services and get all/any 15% charges removed from your final bill?

If you did any of the above, or something different, what reaction did you get from Staff? By which I mean were they surprised? Did they question or was the charge just removed?

I am genuinely interested, so would appreciate a genuine response. Thank-you.

  12. LOL, not judging at all, hopefully "a good time was had by all".

We usually get the 6 bottle package for a 7 day cruise too, however, our next cruise on the Sun will be all about relaxing and not too much gallivanting so we may have to up it to an 8 bottle package.

    Cheers.

Oh most certainly a good time was had by all :D

I like the sound of relaxing and not gallivanting...well, not TOO much anyway! ;) Go ahead and up it to an 8 bottle package, I say, what the heck, you're on your holidays! :)

Enjoy your trip, and cheers.jpg.60d772e3e1b8776e1b8badb119e271d4.jpg to you too!

  13. As has been said, you need to purchase it on board, but the nice thing is also that if you run out of wine, you can purchase another package and you can mix and match your wine choices.

    Enjoy.

We normally only buy one 6 bottle wine package per 7-night cruise.

I just checked my receipts from our Getaway trip.......it shows THREE packages.....don't judge.....there were more adults that time!! ;) :D

But yes, you can always purchase another package!

  14. hi we have booked to see 2 shows on epic, do you still have to que up early or just turn up about 15 mins before it starts?

If you want really good seats, I would suggest getting in line about 30 minutes before the shows start. If, like us, you don't mind where you sit, 15 minutes is ample, in my opinion. Enjoy the Epic :)

  15. Does the Viva Vino package have to be purchased before you board the ship, or can you purchase it once onboard?

    Carolyn

It's not available to pre-purchase, Carolyn. There's usually a table set up somewhere.....often outside one of the main dining rooms or in the Atrium on embarkation day. Just ask one of the lovely members of staff, they'll point you in the right direction! :)

  16. Ha ha, would love the company :p

    :) :)

Seriously though, I checked our last Viva Vino package list and at the bottom it says "A 15% gratuity will be added to your check". I didn't for one moment think it was optional and never considered questioning it! But we're all different, I guess!

  17. Whilst agreeing with the post about changing things after 5 years,my original point is still valid. If you sail on Epic between end of April and October next year (and I will) entertainment options will be less(and therefore you are getting a diminished experience for the same cruise fare). Why not keep BMG until Priscilla is ready or bring Priscilla forward?

I agree! We sail in August, and it does look as though entertainment options will be fewer!

But I'm sure all will be revealed in good time......and I'm sure we'll still have a blast! :)
