  1. I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope he gets on ok. Sorry about your weekend as well, and hope you can get away for a break soon.
  2. no.. its health and safety rules in case of emergency. I'm not sure, but don't think it is an Ambassador Rule. I didn't feel I was discriminated against at all. There were quite a lot of accessible cabins as far as I could see.
  3. Yes, when we booked they were very definite that I could only use my very small scooter on board if I had an adapted cabin. This appeared to be strictly enforced. I am partially disabled and could walk about a bit in the mornings, and around the cabin, but needed my scooter in the evenings. Luckily they had an adapted cabin and it was great. We understood it to be a Health and Safety Rule due to it being quite a small ship. Only a certain number of aids allowed. A wheelchair or scooter can be taken for shore use only in non adapted cabins.. I don't know how they enforce it though.
  4. It was just great so see so many people down the Mall enjoying themselves. My daughter wandered round London yesterday and said the atmosphere was 'magic' and she wouldn't have missed that for anything. Loved Adam Lambert and Queen.. I think I could become a fan!
  5. Off to daughter's today.. just four houses with tea in the front garden and a bit of a quiz (plus prosecco of course) My youngest daughter makes the most amazing roast dinners and savoury things, but like me she has trouble with cakes etc. I cannot do it, they are never right. She has sent me pictures of flattish scones, and a burnt sponge. I told her to cut the edges off no-one will notice!!!!πŸ˜‚She has a great sense of humour so this afternoon will be great fun. We've told her we have made urgent dental appointments just in case. Have a lovely afternoon everyone.
  6. I think I read somewhere that those Deck 8 conservatory cabins are as pricey as the higher ones. I think they should be quite a lot cheaper. We were on Deck 9 and we loved our cabin but I wouldn't have been so happy on 8
  7. When OH had his Club there was a fancy dress night and one lady walked in with the tiniest of bikinis made from those candy things we made necklaces etc out of. Oh the shock. I don't think anyone there could face eating those now!😚
  8. This probably sounds a bit stupid to some but it's a bit difficult how to word it. I like to 'look' at the sea, but on Iona I was 'looking' at the sea, but through a glass screen, which meant, to me, I, I wasn't actually 'looking' at the sea, but looking at the sea through a screen. Sounds silly to me now, but I know what I mean!πŸ™ƒπŸ˜‚
  9. Sorry no-one can tell you... the Bay of Biscay is her own Master. We went across twice in November last year and it was like a millpond, smoother than sitting on a bus.... but she does what she wants. I think all the newer ships probably handle her well. Mid ships, lower deck is better when there is movement.
  10. Had a lovely surprise today. This year I have what feels like a horrible birthday, you know one of those with an 0. I have reluctantly agreed to share a birthday bash with my daughter who will be 50, but that will be between our two birthdays. I love a good party, but this birthday is just looming there, but I know I will enjoy it when it comes. I think my loss of full mobility has had a bit of an effect, Anyway gorgeous OH (I'll call him that just for today after what he has done!!!πŸ˜‚) has booked Queen Victoria with a Club Balcony and we will be away for my actual birthday I love the Club Balconies, and being able to eat at leisure.. Things don't seem so bad now! and of course it is only another day...
  11. Me too. I reckon they will be looking or booking by Sunday afternoon!!!πŸ™‚πŸ€£
  12. I entirely agree about the limits but have taken my buggy on Cunard and P and O and although I had to inform them and fill out the necessary forms I was able to have a normal cabin and not an accessible one..Mind you, I'm not complaining as the only cabin available with accessibility when we booked was a suite which was massive and we loved it.
  13. We came off Ambience on May 11th. We had a good time. There were a few bits and pieces, but nothing much to complain about., It was a new crew so after a few trips they will be fine . Someone mentioned the entertainment crew.. wow they were good They were the best we have seen on any ship. Re dress code. There were three.. casual, smart and formal. Casual seemed to be very casual, smart was casual smart ie going out to restaurant for a birthday etc. We wondered what the take up would be for 'formal' so we asked the Maitre 'd who more or less said no don't bother so OH didn't wear his dinner suit but did wear a shirt and tie. He likes dressing up on formal night so was a bit disappointed to find a very large take up of black tie. We reckon over 50% in dinner jackets, and 40% looked just as good in smart suits. . The surprise for us was people wandering in on formal night in jeans and trainers or similar. This isn't a snobbish remark re dress code, just an observation that Ambience made the rules, ie no ripped jeans in MDR, and formal attire on formal night, but didn't enforce them at all. The food was fine.. no complaints at all. One thing I would say, and I have posted this already but just cannot remember whereπŸ˜‚πŸ™ƒ. I am newly partially disabled and need a small scooter in the evenings. There was much discussion with Ambassador that if you need to use a wheelchair or scooter on board you must have an accessible cabin, which I wouldn't actually need. They said anyone can take a wheelchair or scooter on board for shore use, if in an ordinary cabin, but it being a small ship and because of Health and Safety Rules it must not be used on board . I don't know how strictly this would be enforced but they were very adamant when we booked. All in all it was really good, well worth having a go with the new line.
  14. I'll just creep in to say I'm going to see Barry Manilow in three weeks time. Can't wait! Now I'll creep out again!😍
  15. Ooooooeeer, and here is me in front of my laptop, browsing away, still in pjs, having a cup of tea, totally dischevelled and a total disgrace to fellow CC members πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‡
  16. Having seen that Graham has just come off Anthem I thought I would have a look at it. I have decided that as my mobility is never going to improve, only get worse, although major surgery may help for a while, I need to get out there and go on as many trips, weekends and cruises as possible .I can hobble around during the day but use a scooter later. We usually go for the smaller ship and more formal but I wondered if getting out of our comfort zone might be fun. We are very friendly and have loads chats with others on our cruises don't socialise a lot, although we are used to a busy social scene as OH owned a holiday park and bar with music and dancing. I have finally got OH to have a look at Anthem, he is there now, but judging by the huffing and puffing I suspect his search is not going well. He can get impatient with search engines.😍🀣 although normally he is very laid back. Shall we go out of our comfort zone????? I'm hoping!!!!
  17. From about early/mid 90s I always hosted the yearly Eurovision Dinner Party. Lots of small betting, ie Wogans worst comment, or joke, worst outfits. loads of topics I can't remember. Lots of alcohol consumed by the end. It wasn't fancy dress but we always tried to wear something topical, for instance Carole always wore blonde woollen plaits and said she was from Sweden! The first time I really met my lovely son in law he arrived in a tight red dress. I think a lady in a tight dress from somewhere like Israel had won the year before. They were good times, and people used to ask to come, but we had to keep numbers to 8. We thought it would spoil it to get bigger. Memories Eh? πŸ˜†
  18. Home again from Ambassador Ambience .We had a good time, and the more I think about it the better it seems. Yes there were quite a few little hitches, ie water, and the heating in cabins, theatre etc was too hot, but they are working on those. The crew couldn't do enough. We think a lot of crew are still training. We haven't paid yet as for hundreds of people the system didn't work. We expect a call within a week to arrange payment. The entertainment were by far the best ever. I heard people say West End quality and I totally agree. Food was lovely. The buffet was served like a food court, different served sections.. like The Quays on Iona but on a bigger scale. They have a problem with the car park.. they had the one in front of the terminal but found it leased to a container Company so now its a 10 minute bus away and cases in lorry. Not a good start especially as their blurb still says parking a minutes walk away. I was dropped off and sat in the queue. Cabin was amazing.. steward was great ...they have strict Health and Safety rules about how many wheelchairs and scooters used on board (you can take for land use). You have to have an accessible cabin. We had to have a suite as it was the only disabled one left. A jar of homemade biscuits every day was our downfall!! There were promises not kept, ie lounges for suite use on going on and getting off, and a few other things that didn't materialise, nor did priority boarding, we queued for well over an hour getting on and getting off was a shambles. How can they dock at 8 and expect luggage to be in the terminal by 8.30. I'm sure that will be sorted out now. Our cruise was port intensive so not many lectures etc. Lots of games and quizzes. We had a good time, but dont go expecting the slickness of P and O or Cunard. As the Entertainments Manager said.. they don't have all the bells and whistles but they hope to give a good time. I hope I don't get a rocket for saying this but at the Captains cocktail party and when he had his Officers on stage once, what a scruffy lot.. all wearing their windcheaters. Part of it all is seeing the officers, slightly aloof and impeccable, wandering around, but they all seemed to slouch around in fleeces and not an epaulette (?) or trouser crease or ironed shirt in sight!!!!!! We had a good time.. little niggles will all be gone soon, it was very early days.. so go openminded and enjoy.
