  1. I'll have to try oatcakes. I thought they were little round solid biscuit things that could break your teeth. I was wrong. I started to wonder when you said you fill them with things like cheese, bacon, tomatoes etc.
  2. It could have been, for me, one month's hospital bills, plus two major operations....... that would have been 5/6 figures or more. An example Lehr medical evacuation from Italy to UK over £17,000 in 2019. Insurance is a No. 1 priority. Ours is four figures but we just have to grit our teeth and bear it.
  3. I agree with everything Winifred 22 has said. If I didn't have travel insurance I think I would be a bit on edge in case I tripped or something happened to injure me.. again. A few years ago, en route to a cruise, I got caught in a hotel lift abroad and It was awful.. Because of my injuries I was put in a very bleak hospital that had a Professor. that could save my foot. There was no charge for the hospital stay (a month in total here and over here) because it was their people's hospital but goodness knows how much the bill would have been if I had been taken to a private hospital as usually happens. Two operations, one procedure and over two weeks inpatient care plus medical jet home could have cost an astronomical amount. My life changed in that 10 seconds but that's not what this thread is about. Adequate insurance essential in my view.
  4. Best wishes Snow Hill and also MB2. Hope you both have a speedy recovery. Take care
  5. I just had to google too!😀 One website had pages of info and suggestions re door decorations. One suggested leaving bags of goodies/candy for crew and passengers on the door, and another suggested it would be nice to leave little bags of things/presents and suggested perhaps a gift exchange... whatever that is' What's next, a sale out of your suitcase!
  6. I think I should be feeling sad, but I'm not. After last months spinal injections which didn't have a lot of effect I met with the lovely Surgeon and we had a long chat. He said that serious consideration was given to surgery but because of the state of my spine now, and the various points of severe pain, surgery would not help the problem so we must think outside the box and go down the road of pain management . He is suggesting that after weaning off present medication we go down the patches route, and if that doesn't help there are other Clinics that can help. I feel somehow that I can now come to terms that I wont be running, or walking, 🤣round the block. I needed to hear things from someone else outside the family and he was very good. I can get around indoors, although I have bought myself a posh rollator called "a swedish butler" (I wish) for when I need it (ie carrying food) and can use two sticks or my little efoldi outdoors. And all because of that ^+^"^+ lift door! Some may not agree but I am enjoying a smashing bottle of Gary Barlow's Organic "Blush", have had pasta tuna bake for dinner, and a new jigsaw to start in a minute, so all is good!
  7. A bit of nonsense this Wednesday morning! We realised we have been eating quite a lot of runner beans lately so I thought I would try a slicer. Found a small one on Amazon. Below some of the instructions on the packet... 1. Don't put fragile things when it leaves high to the ground. 2. Be stable when placing something on it. 3. Don't put high temperatured things on nor be near be to stove. 4. Don't damage the sink. When we stopped laughing we figured out three of them but "Don't damage the sink!"??????😏😀🤣
  8. I needed to see the Dr on our NCL cruise. It wasn't urgent just precautionary. Once in the medical wing it all happened very quickly with ecg etc and we were floored when we got the bill, it was astronomical. A man in just overnight got a bill for over £11,000. Yes 11k!! Then I noticed the price charged for a 'puffer'. We looked it up and it retailed at £20. The cost on the bill was over 350 dollars. I quickly telephoned the Doctor and explained there was a mistake on the bill (I was certain it was) and got a very frosty reply, in fact it was a definite no that is the price. Very blunt, end of conversation. I tried to argue but they wouldn't have it. It could have been a computer error at Head Office. That could have been nasty with no Insurance. Insurance for us every time, even when round Britain. Incidentally we reported what we thought was a mistake to the Insurance Company so hopefully they sorted it out between them.
  9. How the three way temporary traffic lights near us and all the signs survived I don't know, but they did. Yesterdays family lunch went great, everyone chipped in moving table etc and carrying hot dishes which I can't do. After a lovely laughter filled family lunch it all went into reverse and all was cleared in a few minutes. They knew I am off for a few days (all inclusive!!😃) so made sure everything was done. It still embarrasses me a bit when they do things I would have done in a heartbeat, but hey ho, they understand. I will not overeat or drink on my break, I will not overeat or drink on my break. Who am I trying to kid. Just myself!🙃
  10. For Avril and the girls... Help!!!!!😂 I used to sort out events and things when I was in Ladies Circle many years ago, but seem to be doubting myself now. Can I prepare potatoes and other veg and put in water in saucepans tonight at my leisure? Then I can open the Prosecco and wallow in the morning?🙃 ps the above post makes my problem look miniscule
  11. Kids!!! Well my daughter suggested a meet up for Sunday Lunch somewhere, us, her and her OH, the grandchildren and their partners, eight in total. It was a bit late to book and also it is getting a bit of a bill for eight of us so I told her there was a nice Cafe at £$ *&*&* Road (my house). They said that would have been nice but felt me being partially disabled that it might be too much for me to cope with!!!😏 Well that was like a red rag to a bull and adrenaline clicked in , of course I would cope. Even if on my hands and knees (but I didn't tell them that) What I had forgotten was we are going away for a few days so preparing for that, and must clear everything away afterwards. We have a compromise, I cook etc. Two come early to carry tables and lay up and carry hot dishes to and from the kitchen (which I can't do). With my daughter helping it will be chaos, and I am really looking forward to it.
  12. I can well believe that Avril, it happened to me when I was in the Cardiac Ward. A rather loud family were visiting someone behind the curtain and he gave them strict instructions yo bring him a big mac and chips, and not to forget his fags for when he went home. I was a smoker then and never had the willpower to give up but I did then, very easily, although I still keep some in a drawer after all these years and still crave occasionally and miss the social aspect.
  13. We were lucky enough to have the massive suite at the front of Adonia, which was fine in calm seas, but when it got rough we couldn't move in the cabin, we couldn't get from one side to the other. Everything landed on the floor.. nearly us too. But we loved Adonia and we were very sorry when she went. It had a lovely atmosphere.
  14. Oh no, I would be gone. Even the word sp*d*r makes my skin crawl😼
  15. No their not Dollys.. she's more like a 36 JJ or more!
  16. EEEEEK.. I would have run half a mile down the road. In the past I have been known to accost some innocent person in the street wimpering "Are you scared of spiders?" When OH and I lived in separate houses (down a lane) he was so good when he got a call at 1 am to come and rescue me. He knew what a state I would be in.😶
  17. I love it like this and moan and moan through July and August. I will never know why😏
  18. Thank you Selbourne and Pete14. That made me laugh out loud, which is something really needed this morning. Really made us laugh out loud. Good old CC x
  19. Have you seen the Ryanair advert with well behaved children at the forefront. I reckon they did that on purpose, having seen the awful Love Holidays one
  20. I do wonder what the 'boy' thinks when he sees the advert, he could be a father himself now. Isn't it the advert from many years ago... or am I mistaken
  21. So looking forward to the rest of your blogs on this great tour of yours. I have always fancied Bermuda. Never been. Your fair critiques are a great read for us.
  22. Ooooh word for word what we have said Terrierjohn . I like kids but when that boy runs on I cringe. I wonder if it was done on purpose.. kind of reverse advertising.. after all we are talking about it. (I know what I mean 🙃)
  23. Very pleased to hear your good news Avril. Even at 5.30 in the morning!😂
  24. and to relax and do something you enjoy doing for the rest of the evening. And to eat chocolate if you have any over from Christmas (or finish any Prosecco!😃
