hi been on the discovery a couple of times, lovely ship and ex royal caribbean. this winter will be the first time marella has sailed out of the far east, so a first for us all. we are on her in january and we are very exited about it. marella formerly thomson and tui have always looked after us so go for it and have a great cruise. when we booked the cruise we were due to fly into bangkok but marella later changed the airport to u- tapao airport which is closer to where the ship will be docked than bangkok. and will be a lot less in airport charges for marella
Thank you for your response. I’ve just realised that it’s the first time to the Far East for Marella but it’s good to hear a good review of the ship. We’re thinking of February but still weighing up options. Watch this space!!!!

First time with Marella and thinking of this cruise. Has anyone done it and do you have any advice? Thanks

I think the bottom line is, you’re on holiday, wear what you’re comfortable in. There will always be people both dressier and less dressy than you, just like there are ashore.

Can't remember
:'):'):') Me neither!!!!!

Cake is eaten with the hand. Not considered a dessert. Cake is for tea time.
If the cake has cream/Jam in it, it often requires a fork if to be eaten in polite company!!;p

...waits for the first comment about facecloths not being hygienic to appear!
Haha, it’s bound to come!!!!! 😂

We’ve always enjoyed Sindhu too. They do a taster menu on occasion which is lovely. It was so good on our last long cruise on Aurora, we did it twice!
-
You used to be able to see inside the casino for a small fee.
-
Well that's about 5 of us, what about the others?
Add us too. Now we’re 7!!!! 😂😂

On a previous cruise whilst doing the quiz, one of the questions was about the ingredients of a certain soup - prounounced “ mine strone”! Where do they get these people?:')
-
On Britannia they had what looked like Ariel pods in the shop, all loose in a holder. There was no price on them so I’m guessing they were expensive to buy one.
They had Ariel pods on Aurora in January and were selling them at £1.00 each!!

28 days too long? NEVER!!!!!! The longer the better!!!!!

The mini bars are a fairly recent addition, just used to be an empty fridge with your “free” bottles of water in if I remember rightly. I wonder how many people actually use the mini bar, we certainly never have.

Your tickets will be on your bed with the horizon paper and other bits and bobs ( at least, ours always have been) Enjoy your cruise!

Well that's clear enough. Thanks for the clarification - I haven't seen it spelled out so clearly before. Was that off the EHIC Government site tartanexile?
I read it as well and found it on the ehicdirect.co.uk website and searched on”cruises”. Seems to spell it out really clearly, doesn’t it?

Just off Britannia watched the Panama, Belgium, Colombia and Sweden game in Brodies, great atmosphere, packed out. Got there last minute for the Sweden game as we were sunning ourselves on the deck and there were no seats available so we liberated a couple of chairs from the empty Casino next door and plonked ourselves down near one of the dozen TVs.
Due to the games being screened via satellite there are a lot of screen freezes so its a bit like A Question of Sports What happened next as the commentary continues when the picture freezes. Very frustrating during penalty shoot outs.:D
Staying on the football theme everyone around us was surprised at the Great British sailaway in Skagan that the entertainment crew didn't play Footballs Coming Home although there was an impromptu rendition at the end from the crowd. They played some football songs (Here we go for Everton fans and You'll never walk alone for Liverpool fans) nothing for the National team. Shameful show from Neil Oliver the Cruise Director.
Just to throw a spanner in the works, they are the ENLAND team, not the National team. There are three other countries making up UK. That maybe why the entertainment team did what they did.

There’s also a “fit to travel” insurance for members of the Women’s Instiitute and their families. In fact, I think it may be underwritten by the same company. Medical evacuation by helicopter is covered to £25,000 which may be a problem if you were mid- Atlantic or Pacific ( but highly unlikely).

There’s a programme on Channel 4 tonight called “The Great British Germ Hunt” which I’m sure will tell us all we need to know - or not!!!!

It's not my nightie I'm bothered about. It's other peoples.:)
If it’s that much of an issue for you (bearing in mind that this thread won’t change what people do), just don’t use the drawers! Can’t see the problem!

Strawberry field - somewhat younger than you and Jean, but ditto.
Me too. Just how ludicrous is this thread? :D

You've missed the most important detail, the topic of the thread. Was the underwear clean?😨
Perhaps you should have sniffed it to find out, NHproud! ;p

The steward would have a job trying to fold my nightwear as the only thing I wear for bed is Chanel No5 ;)
Ha ha ha, love it!!!! 😂

I'm confused why putting clothes in a drawer -- something that's intended to hold clothes -- would warrant a second thought. What other use would a bedside drawer serve? The under-the-pillow thing has me fascinated. I've never heard of that tactic; it's clever. But if your PJs are so soiled that you won't put them in a drawer for fear of germs, then why would you put them somewhere that will come into contact with your face? Shouldn't they go in the wash instead?
It's likely our room stewards don't think about what we wear to bed at all, to be honest, but I would much rather have someone thinking that I sleep commando than thinking I'm messy or rude. I was taught that leaving your pajamas out for someone else to clean up is bad manners. Plus, as others have said, I'm weirded out by the thought of a stranger touching my clothes - particularly intimate ones.
Germs do love damp conditions, but cruise cabins are temperature controlled, which keeps humidity to a minimum. I've never sweated so much in my pajamas that they were wet when I woke up (unless I was ill or sleeping someplace hot in the summer without A-C). I'm not an expert, but I don't think germs can survive on surfaces for weeks: https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/infections/how-long-do-bacteria-and-viruses-live-outside-the-body/.
Funny conversation, and ultimately, to each their own!
At last, the voice of reason!!! 😂😂😂😂

I can’t believe anyone could even be bothered to ask such a question! What does it matter to you what people do?
I’m lost for words quite frankly!!
Eve
Totally agree. Thread for threads sake. Who cares? Not me
Which Norwegien fjord cruise would you choose?
in P&O Cruises ( UK )

We went on Oriana once, first cruise ship into Gerainger in early May. Weather was poor and because so early in the season, the ice hadn’t thawed and the waterfalls that should have been spectacular, were non existent.I would go late May at the earliest if I went again. We still enjoyed it as will you, I’m sure.
