  1. When we had an almost total eclipse in Israel a few years ago, during the hot summer, it was 2.30pm and it suddenly got very cold outside.... We were on our balcony and felt like a very cold wind. I remember thinking "Wow, we really needs this sun in our lives. Look what a few minutes of eclipse are doing to the temperatures outside...".
  2. No, there is no promenade. BUT, come to think of it, I really don't like the whole layout of the ship. It seems to me that even the pricier cabins on deck 9 and above do not look down to the water, they look down on the promenade.... Deck 9 is in the middle I rest my case....
  3. NOW I understand.... For free I wouldn't book one of those. My friend's friend thanks you very much. So glad I've thought to ask you about Iona.
  4. Thanks, Graham. I really have trouble understanding the promenade cum lack of privacy "thing" of those mini-suites. Those balconies do not "border" with the sea? Is the promenade between the sea and those balconies????
  5. Thank you so much for your quick and detailed reply, Graham. Much appreciated. I've copied your post for the friend of the friend and told her to book only deck 9. She is also wait listed for a full suite.
  6. You and us too.... We walked with our carry on from the Premier Inn, through the Holiday Inn's parking lot, to the pier. Checked the route the evening before, since someone posted about this possibility to cross through HI's parking lot. BUT, for "regular" people it might not be a "viable" option.
  7. Our experience when sailing out of Southampton -- Book a private transfer from Heathrow to a London hotel. Spend 2-3 days in London. The day before the cruise -- book a private transfer from London hotel to, for example, Premier Inn West Quai Southampton. From the Holiday Inn you can just walk to the pier.... Morning of the cruise -- you're all set within 5-10 mins drive to pier. National Express buses and trains -- all require additional transfers by taxi. If flying in from US, might as well spend a couple of days in London, to get over the jetlag.
  8. @grapau27 Graham, the mom of my stepcat sent me one of her best friends for "cruise consulting"... The friends want to cruise the Norwegian Fjords with P&O (originally they're from England) and asked me about the itinerary. I've tried to check it on an US site, which I'm using to see rates and availability, before asking our TA to book us. I was surprised that P&O is not available for booking through an US-based agency. Anyhow, I've managed to see the itinerary on P&O's official site, which was not very user friendly. It includes the Geiranger fjord, which is a must. No suites available, only mini-suites for Iona on the 6th of July. Do you have any experience with mini-suites on Iona? Thanks,
  9. Beautiful itinerary, Graham @grapau27, including the famous Belgian chocolates. Did you pay to visit the interior of one of those cube houses? St. Kitts it is 😉. We also have never been to St. Croix.
  10. Mark, @h20skibum My veterinary "knowledge" stems from the show "The Incredible Dr. Pol". There, usually when an animal was anemic, first thing he looked for were parasites -- coccidia, mites, etc. Assuming it's not the case, hopefully it's a "one-off" for Ricky 😘
  11. @DaniDanielle Oh, Marietta, never a dull moment for you. Glad everyone is safe. CNN — A preliminary 4.7 magnitude earthquake was felt in the Northeast Monday morning, according the US Geological Survey
  12. Yes, I did. That's it, until Covid.... Just when I thought we'll be back to "normal" life, the war started 6 months ago. Funny thing, after his 2nd visit, when I got the "gist", I said "I'll like matching earrings, on our dime". They were eager to please Dani "san" and took DH to wholesale shops and he came back with single matching pearls, which I then designed in earrings for my taste. Bought some small diamonds at the Antwerp bourse to go with "my" pearls and ready made designer lockers for the necklaces, instead of the silver plated ones 😎
  13. @jagsfan Thanks, Mimi. So glad to see you posting. This sad time is also the worst time -- tragic mistakes are made and innocent people pay with their lives. High time to stop and look for peaceful solutions. @DaniDanielle + 1 , Marietta 😘
  14. DH was also at least 7 times in Tokyo and Kyoto for work (and he's not at all keen to return, given the long flight). "Somehow", the Japanese took a "shine" on him, and, after his first visit, asked only that he will be sent. As a "compensation" for leaving me with 2 small kids for weeks at a time (we were living in Brussels then, and I had not much aid from parents and friends), the Japanese sent me every time a pearl necklace....
  15. @FromSea2ShiningSea + 1 , I had no idea there so many beautiful places in Japan. And the cherry blossom is amazing.
  16. @Luckynana Maryann, So sorry. I've kind of been "lost in translation", misunderstanding your post.😢 😢 😢
  17. Thanks for asking. Very slight improvement, but it's almost 2 weeks!!! Yes, I've been to the family doctor a week ago, he prescribed a syrup for my awful cough, said my lungs are clean, just give it time.... ☹️
  18. Maryann, sorry to read this. If I remember well, last year Lois made a miraculous recovery. Don't give up hope. Huge hugs (((( ))))
