  1. Right or wrong, my thoughts are it's to bring Cunard Dining more in line with other cruise lines which have an open dining option. I know folk who are delighted with it so as usual. can't please all the folk all the time. I had a chat with a senior member of staff before Covid and I asked if open dining would ever come to Cunard. The reply four years ago, was 'never say never' and maybe I'm reading too much into that but my thoughts are it's been in the pipeline for a while.
  2. Naomi McFerran Hotel General Manager mv Queen Victoria | Cunard edit This was in reply to an email I sent to her last year. I thought/presumed she was ship based. Is she land based?
  3. IS F.L. a first port of call in the US? We have visited F.L. on world cruise segments and had to 'zero' as it was the first port of call after a non US cruise port.
  4. I don't drink fine wines but I am particular in the wines I do drink. I'm also very particular with pre and post dinner drinks so I'm with Hattie. PAYG. 🙂
  5. Found the solution to clanking hangers. Throw a bath sheet over the rail, the bath sheet being heavier than a hand towel.
  6. Aft, forward and QG midships deck four cabins have a deeper balcony, part of it having no overhang from the deck above which means in sunny climates and tif he ship's position is favourable to your area of the ship, you have the choice of sitting in the shade or in the sun. The only draw back is those above looking down have a bird's eye view if you are by the edge of the balcony, probably wishing they too had the choice of sun or shade!, I know I have envied that position a few times. 🙂
  7. and standing in an emergency onboard etc. Asking for assistance and the use of a wheelchair to avoid possible standing for a while sounds a good idea if standing for a while is a problem. Informing the company of possible issues in the highly unlikely emergency scenario is also sensible. The issues are folk assuming their cabin will be fine for mobility scooters, foldable or other wise, without checking first, those who don’t inform the company prior to embarkation they need help and expect assistance to board, those who in an emergency would not be able to use stairs or would be very slow with their sticks etc…
  8. Golly, I hope not. We have a S'ton b2b booked and I'm hoping to do laundry!!! How exciting is that! 😀
  9. You might be able to take advantage of the cabin bidding system nearer the time if you booked direct with Cunard.
  10. Jeepers, that's one thing less for the 'fings are going down hill' lists.
  11. Dynamic adjustment works both ways and It depends if the price of the cabin has gone up.
  12. I have no idea what can/can't be ordered off menu in PG, but there will always be a difference between off menu PG and most things 'as long as the ingredients are on the ship and the chef knows the recipe' off menu QG dining.
  13. To be fair though, embargoed does mean a ban has been imposed. To say it can't be discussed could imply there is something to be discussed. Can't win.
  14. Fingers crossed she's going to be S'ton based summer '26
  15. Which I usually do. I think breakfast room service menus are the same throughout the ship too although as a QG cruiser, I add a brown sauce portion onto my crispy bacon order! 😄
  16. I advise trainers for the promenade laps and paper clips to temporarily hoik up the hem of long dresses, other than that, and of course following exlondoner's excellent advice, sounds good! 🙂
  17. We use Amex with no problem although I think many folk use credit cards. Wouldn't dream of using our bank debit cards.
  18. So assistance, which is what the post you answered was about and which you seemed to indicate was just a zoo, is still there. Good.
  19. So no wheelchairs for those who need help? I am amazed that is so different from S'ton disabled assistance. Have things deteriorated that much in NYC cruise ports?
  20. I have no idea what disabled embarkation from kerbside is like in NYC as we [pre Covid] have always been in transit so have had terminal arranged disabled assistance but it seemed to work OK. Post Covid, it works fine in S'ton so can't imagine it would be any different in NYC. If it has changed at all, it will be a tightening up as Cunard need to know who needs help onboard in the case of emergency and that in my book is a definite plus so is better.
  21. This is a NYC embarkation. To have a MaS hire, one would have to have had it put on in S'ton and then presuming it's a one way, it would be collected at S'ton when the ship docks. The only issue with that is it although it would only be used for approx 7 days, the hire cost would be for the two weeks. If the wheelchair has been stored in housekeeping on the outward journey, then it wouldn't be available for embarkation but would be in your cabin for when you have embarked. If there isn't a US equivalent of MaS which could facilitate wheelchair hire from NYC if the TA is a return then someone is missing a trick. Either way, Cunard wheelchairs are never available in S'ton for embarkation, they are always from the terminal's assistance programme.
  22. and one of the joys of cruising with Cunard is that I can wear my jeans if I want to, and I do, just in case the o/ p has the impression they are frowned upon. They don’t fit 'Smart Attire' but they are most acceptable during the day and in a few areas of the ship in the evening.
  23. It doesn't matter what anyone else wears. I think it's been established the OP in post 14, has decided his question has been answered and has decided what to pack with regards to a collared sweater and jeans of an evening, which was the crux of post #1.
  24. On the other hand, we always try and sign a chitty. It's hard to disprove a reasonably sizeable chitty isn't yours if there's no signature to compare or, as in our case, able to prove it's difficult to be in two bars at once.
  25. I get the impression rj1227 has no intention of 'dressing down' or under any perceived 'minimum'. He was, understandably given the slightly subjective 'guide' Cunard have on their website and as mentioned in my post #11, asking for clarification of the evening requirements for dress on a Cunard TA cruise.
