  1. How's this for technical. Stay away from the back if thinking if the BoB or Drake's Passage etc, middle is great if seas are lively and I talk from experience, of both parts of the ship! 🙂
  2. Cunard sometimes have some great bin end offers but you only get those onboard. Worth asking about.
  3. A mini stapler was my go to student hem repair!
  4. the buffet, where half of it is now given over to Japanese food items. Oh yum. A whole holiday of Japanese styled foods. Waitrose has become my second home due to their Japanese range of foods. Anything remotely Wagamama'ish would have me signed up in an instant. Just shows how different we all are. 🙂
  5. rj59, I don't know how extensive your travels with Cunard are, but 'cultural resentments' certainly don't figure in my travels or, I would imagine, the majority of Cunard clients. As for a Cunard afternoon tea, we don't bother but it gives great pleasure to many and that might well be 'the point'.
  6. This intrigued me as I thought Champagne had PDO status. It does but on further research, the US Government, in their infinite wisdom, allowed the term Champagne to be used on US produced sparkling wine as long as the brand was in production on or before March 2006 and the geographical area is named on the label. Every day is an education!
  7. I think too many people are worrying about something which hasn't happened. The sky was about to fall in once 'smart attire/no jacket required' was introduced. Result? On my QV cruises so far, the majority of passengers looked pretty smart and the Gala evenings were almost all black tie in QG. I say QG as that was my dining experience but I have no reason to think the other restaurants weren't just as glamorous.
  8. Not a December TA, granted but having been in minusC30 with windchill, don’t make the mistake I did with headgear. I took a lovely cosy Arran knot bobble hat. Guess what, knitwear has enough 'holes' which lets through the chill. My advice, one word, fleece. I also bought thermal underwear from our dept. store, M&S. Apart from my head, I was as warm as toast and without any very bulky outerwear.😀
  9. The ship is air-conditioned The ships are, as you say, air-conditioned. Unfortunately, there are occasions when the air-con isn't sufficient to create a pleasant temperature and jacket removal was encouraged or at least tacit approval was given to those whose chairs became jacket wearers, pre 'Jacket Optional'.
  10. If choosing a Q3, itinerary would feature in my choice. Having had friends who booked one, for a sunny cruise, deck 4 would be my choice now, preferably above the library. The balconies have more depth to them so you can be in sun or shade if the sun is out to play. We would not choose deck 8.
  11. I have mentioned in the past, how chaps were actively encouraged to remove jackets in QG when the air con couldn’t cope. I was 'shouted down' by one or two members, saying it couldn’t happen. Well it did and that was nowhere near Australian waters.
  12. Speaking as a long term user of assistance, I think not fit for purpose is a tad unfair as normally, assistance runs like clockwork but unfortunately, the odd occasion when things don't run smoothly, is the occasion which stands out. but you're right with your last line, difference for us is we received a fulsome apology.
  13. We are used to the form filling and our agent now keeps a copy and files it with Cunard for us although last time, we weren't on the list either in S'to, and were given 'the letter', rather officiously too I thought. However, knowing we were on the list, I listened to the spiel with, I have to say, growing impatience as I too didn't really appreciate being given 'the letter', then asked to see 'the list. Yes our named cabin was on 'the list' but with the incorrect cabin number. Oh derrrrr! Which dept. messed that up, I have no idea but it's bad enough needing wheelchair assistance without the added hassle of being told you haven't filled out the correct forms! We got a profuse apology before we embarked.
  14. Hey, don't knock Connexions 1 as mobility assistance waiting area. It used to be the pub until some one with common sense realised [ and something I made a point of every single cruise!] trying to get a load of wheelchairs off the ship by having to use stairway B lift deck 2 to deck 1, was potty! Yes there are 'people' in the way but the staff soon sorted that out for us.🙂
  15. I’m no connoisseur so am probably the last to comment on quality as champagne for the most part, is champagne. If the champagne house onboard is x or y, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect a bottle in the cabin.
  16. True but a Champagne retailing around AU$9? Don't think so.
  17. Not acceptable. As you know, there is a world of difference between French Sparkling [or any sparkling] and Champagne. Over the past few years, we have had Veuve, Delamotte and Laurent Perrier. and have never had to ask for it. Champagne is listed and champagne it should be whichever hemisphere the ship is in. Plus, I don't know any which retails for the price you indicated! 🙂 Words with the concierge should have sorted that out.
  18. We have had Laurent Perrier for the last couple of cruises. Whilst not a champagne lover, I would think it most acceptable.
  19. We have managed a few Inside passage cruises, not on Cunard as the company is relatively new to Alaska, and have never felt any motion sickness. edit On ships smaller than QE. Go for it, Fabulous area of the world.
  20. A lot depends on cabin position. Mid ships is a different scenario to, let's say, aft eg we like aft on 'gentle' itineraries but mid ships if BoB is involved.
  21. and getting down to basics, take some toilet tissue with you. I wasn't too enamoured of the 'quality' or to be fair, state of some of the 'loo accessories' outside main hotels. You might be lucky bit always a good idea to be prepared. If not stopping at a hotel, I'd also take some bottled water/cans of soda off the ship with you. We were advised to do this from our tour guide when on a Nile river cruise. Yes cans and bottles will be available at cafes/restaurants but you don't know where they've been stored. I could go into the detail we were given but it's not very pleasant.
  22. I'd say can we swop QA for QV and have QV back S'ton making the home runs? Please! 🙂
  23. Apparently, it's specified in S'ton and NY but we have had QG boarding in S'pore, HK, LA and San Francisco. All before Covid I must add.
  24. So that's a no. Boarding by deck will have no effect on QG passengers or, I imagine, PG. They will still get their priority as in early, boarding so it's not an issue. and the original comment was about the World Club tiers, not cabin class.
