  1. I have always said when people ask to compare the 2 lines and IMHO they are more alike than different , but when it comes to ships RCI is way ahead and much better , now saying that I am not into those mega ships but do enjoy the voyager class very much love the added space of the Royal Promenade which Carnival has nothing to compare . We will spend hours down in that area if not in the Pubs just sitting and people watching or maybe talking to someone . Its such a fun area. Love the ice shows. Those size ships never seem crowded , sailed the Dream last year and it seemed packed all week. Always lines or crowds. Love Both lines will sail either one but if I had my choice would pick a voyager/freedom class ship any day of the week if the price was right .

  2. Some liquor stores have the airport type you desire in like 6 packs only thing some have metal lids . I am like you don't like a lot and like it fresh and easy . I once went a Celebrity cruise with a small pint in a backpack showed up on the scanner guy said I had to check it I was like no big deal went to the table the kid there was like REALLY this is it , don't bother me with this amount go on LOL .

  3. Well to each his own I guess :)

But I didn't mean hard liquor, like cognac or whisky. I like sweet stuff like Frangelico, Kahlua

If your local liquor store makes in a pint size or there about with a PLASTIC lid , very easy to do . Cargo shorts and just walk right by. Done it many times with a small bottle of Vodka or Capt Morgan . Just enough to fix a few drinks on the balcony . Half the time I don't even finish it more of beer drinker but sometimes like hard drink .

  4. We did it as a ship's tour through RCCL. It was appx. $100 each for the day. Transportation was included. They do have a website and it says email for pricing so looks like you can book on your own. Not sure about when ships are in port though as they only take a very limited number onto the island.

I just talked to them via e mail , and they said they had a cruise deal but I didn't know that meant I had to book directly with RCI . So How many were there when you went ?? Was it crowded ? Or do they limit it ?

  5. Does anyone have anymore info on this ? Such as Cost ? Cost of a taxi to and from . Time you get on the island. Sounds wonderful but is all so vague and outdated would love some new info. Looks like fun for our 2016 cruise.

  6. Last October, we were in San Juan and a taxi driver approached us to take us on a tour....he had a van that would have held probably 6 people...He charged us $10 pp for a two hour tour. His English was excellent, he stopped at variious places so we could get out and take pictures and look around. He took us to a market, he took us into San Juan city, and dropped us at El Morro at the end. It was one of the best tours I have ever had! There are plenty of taxi drivers (not the tour operators) outside of the pier area. In fact, I saw this same taxi driver on our next visit to San Juan just this past February....he remembered me. He had his taxi parked just outside of the CVS. I would recommend this for sure!

Same here only ours was next door at the Sheraton OSJ that was in 2011 we were heading to the Rum factory by boat and he offered us a great tour including the rum factory we spent several hours and he was in NO hurry we saw anything and everything and then he dropped us at El Morro which worked perfect as we wanted to stop at El Covento hotel for dinner they have a wonderful pizza place to eat so walked there ate and then headed on back and saw a few more sites. Our taxi driver actually headed up the baggage handlers union so we saw him as boarded the ship he was directing the porters. He was a great guy would highly recommend Frank if you can find him.

  7. I am laughing at the people at the people on here the "don't " like it or eat it . Guess you are not the ones in the lines LOL . I always see a line except at 10 or 11 pm when my wife and may take a late night walk and grab a cone as we walk by. May not be best I ever had . To me taste just Mcdonalds cones. Not the best I ever had but tasty .

  8. If you want a great balcony .....Book Lido deck and as close to the pool as possible short walk hidden behind a wall so NO traffic . They are great. Afts are great but on Carnival you pay Premium price for them . I wait for RCI to book those they don't charge extra actually they are less and most have bigger balconies.

  9. Has anyone used this website to book one of the hotels at Nassau?

We'll be there next week off Enchantment and we were thinking of going to the British Colonial Hilton. I understand it's close to port and you get the dining voucher. I know we could just walk back to the ship and eat for free but I don't know if we would feel like going back out after that.

I looked at pictures on the website and the beach looks small, so I'm wondering if it ends up being crowded.

Anyone here with experiences with that website or the hotel we're thinking about? What kinds of foods are available with the voucher? Can we use their kayaks and loungers for free or is there an extra fee?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Never used them there but did use them in Roatan and it worked well . Just as promised . Open bar great food was very happy with how they handled it.

  10. Used it once ,ours was a total cluster . So the early boarding was joke . The luggage and access to your room big plus other than that no big deal to us . I think Most will give it a thumbs up from what I have read. Its $50 if that's to most not a deal breaker and will say its well worth it.

  11. The long and short of my answer is I would . I have flown out of San Juan many times but it can be quite a cluster with the Ag check and security line if you don't know that there is an alternative line . We have made noon flights and been through security by 9 am but have been there and done that . Just know that it can be QUITE hectic if you don't get off the ship and get to the airport early . Traffic , cant say I have ever seen any on the way early its a short trip. But do you want your last day to be Run run run . We don't have kids just 2 adults .

Also I googled it, its a 15 minute ride to the airport . Its only 8 miles

  12. I agree with the OP I could tell you so many stories of so many wonderful people we have met and cruised with again one set of sisters as many as 5 cruises we are as close to them as my own family and it was all because of a roll call. But I can see it both ways , the only thing confuses me is people that participate in roll calls all the way up till cruise time and act like oh we are so excited to meet everyone and ........nothing never see them or never hear from them again or they my do a quick pop in and out and gone and you never even get there name , now its not like I want to be best friends with everyone on the ship but just saying why spend a year on a roll call then nothing , but like I said to each his own . I have never met a person yet I cant strike a conversation up with .....well they have to speak English LOL I haven't mastered any other languages yet. Would love to learn Spanish though for all those southern Caribbean cruises we take would open up a whole new batch of friends:D

  13. They have real nice holders for them on Amazon , I just go some they are reusable and look to last a lifetime . Just slide them in. I used to Laminate them and then zip tie then never a problem that way . But had to go to my wifes office yada yada . This way I have them here ready to go.

  14. Hi all.

I know from sailing NCL and RCCL, there are always a group favorite of a particular ship.

A ship that is laid out well, glowing remarks about crew, cleanleness and overall good vibe.

What is that ship on CCL (or at least on cruisecritic).

Thinking about booking a Carnival cruise. Last time we sailed Carnival was on the Dream when it first came out.

    Thanks all.

We have been on 11 Carnival cruises various ships and our favorite Hands down was the Liberty after the 2.0 upgrades loved every aspect of it. Did not like the Dream at all even though its basically the same ship and layout just less of the upgrade and poorly designed to handle the extra people IMHO.

  15. We have sailed Carnival 11 times on various ships mostly newer or larger ones. RCI 5 with more booked guess for us its the ships themselves , Carnival ships are so cut up and hard to navigate as compared to a voyager class ship of RCI they are so much nicer IMHO the Royal Promenade area is so cool. and ships flow so nice . Would give food to Carnival they just seem to do a better job. Everything else is a toss up to us. RCI is doing a better job at pricing to compete this past sale they had was fantastic. Booked cruises way cheaper than Carnival , plus their loyalty program is better we are Platinum on Carnival gets you basically a few perks . RCI we are Platinum and we get a $100 discount for booking a balcony and that's only after 5 cruises.

  16. Oh I am not saying Carnival is right , guess when I see a online sale via it be a Hotel rate , airline price a cruise sale I always figure it won't last . Better buy it quick while its there if you know for sure you want it. I know some people had there reasons for waiting and my wife would have been a perfect example of a person that would have waited till today if it said you had till today. But that's why she keeps me around LOL.

Sorry for you that may get shafted out of the deal though .

  17. I guess I am wondering why people waited to the last minute?? I always worry that there is " Fine Print" such as while supplies last. Or whatever. Not saying this is the issue but if everyone was so excited to do it and you would have had to use a CC anyway not sure why people waited. Guess I am one that is get it quick before the deal is gone even if it says whatever. Got mine the 2nd day and the bonus card came the next morning no hitches.

  18. First of all, THANK you to the OP for this thread!

Second, does anybody know if these can be used to purchase cruise cash? I would love to have everything all applied to my S&S before we get there and not tie up the line at Guest Services if I can help it.

No I tried ,you cant. I even called only way is to take the balance onboard , she told me you could use them at the kiosk though or at guest services.
