Not us.  We get up by 5am every day at home, can't sleep past 6am on a cruise.  We get up and workout daily, so we are not going to be eating dinner late.  We always do early seating or YTD and go at 6pm, our dinner time at home.  We might grab a snack after a show in the evening, but we aren't eating a full meal that close to bedtime.  I'd be up all night if I did.

Thank you ABQrobin! I was starting to think we were the only early risers and diners on the ship. Agree with you about a snack after the show in the evening too.

What does it look like? Is it listed separately? Is it hard to find?

I don't want to just overlook it. Right now I scour through all 30+ excursions looking for it. They add more every other day.......

Sort the excursions by city. The home port is where it will be listed. Just remember, if it's not there keep checking. I've seen it pop up a few times before our cruise.

We have an Ocean Suite for the new Panorama ship.  We are 4 people, and I just assumed there would be the bed thingy from the ceiling as well as the sofa bed.  Is that not true?

Just went to the Carnival Panorama deck plan to check out your Ocean Suite for 4 people. Here's the description "Two twin beds (convert to king) and double sofa bed. Sofa and coffee table. Desk and seat. Full bathroom with shower/whirlpool tub/double sinks. Walk-in dressing area with ample closet space. Private large balcony with patio chairs and table." So it looks like your sofa converts to a double bed for two people. Hmmmm. Hope it's two small kids or a happy couple!

How was the embarkation? What time did you arrive?

We arrived at the port at 9:30am as per our check in time. We were seated in the waiting area at 10am. Group 1. Once the ship was cleared, we heard platinum, suites, special needs called, then group 1 was called. We were on the ship at 11:15 and having lunch in O'Sheehans at 11:30.

  5. We're in the same boat, afraid if we don't book our 5 specialty restaurants we won't get the dining times we want. Sooo, of course I booked the specialty restaurants and Cirque. That gives us 5 days to try other options. I figure I can always change once on the ship. Last 7 day on NCL  we had 7 nights specialty dining and a suite, so we never saw the regular dining rooms or O'Sheehans or the buffet. Silly, but I am looking forward to trying out everything the Breakaway has to offer.

Are they even offering time selection? I’m not sure I believe this guy who said he selected 930am. Lol

I was able to pick the 9:30 - 10:00am slot for arriving at the port to check in for the Breakaway in January. We still won't actually be getting on before 12 probably...

  7. It's strange, but when we were able to book our dining reservations for Teppanyaki, Moderno, Cagney's and Ocean Blue, I was able to make reservations for 3 for our upcoming cruise on the Breakaway Jan 17th. Hmmm. I did make the reservations the first day they were available for our cruise if that helps. I just went back to see what I could book now and the party choices were 1,2,4,6,8. You could do one reservation for 2 and one reservation for 1!

  8. In Jan 2017 we went to Teppanyaki twice on the Dawn. The first time we had a fabulos chef! He was funny engaging and a darn great cook. The Second time near the end of the cruise we had the younger chef and while he tried, there was no comparison to the other chef.

I read that Grand Suites are now able to access the Havana Pool during the day.

I just read all of everyone's replies. Answered my question re the under 12 situation. I booked a Havana Cabana Suite for our anniversary, should I now switch to a Grand Suite instead?

  10. Thank you for this post, excellent information!

I have a question. Sailing Dawn, DH and I sailing in cabin, and 2 friends sailing in separate cabin. We don't have the dining package as a perk, but are going to each buy the 3 Meal Specialty Dining Package online.

When reservations open up at 120 days out, I will be the person making the dinner reservations for all 4 of us at Cagney's, Le Bistro & La Cucina.

Question: Will I be able to make dinner reservations for all 4 of us at the specialties, even though there are only 2 in our cabin? Will I be charged a fee for my friends cover charge in advance? For example, if I'm reserving for 4 people will the system credit me for 2 based on the package associated with my cabin, and then want my credit card for the other 2 cover charges?

    Many thanks for your help!

I just made our dinner reservations for our January cruise and I was able to reserve for 3, even though there are just 2 in our cabin. So yes, you can reserve for more than just your cabin.

  11. We sailed out of NOLA years ago, but it was too foggy to see anything out the way out, and the trip back up the river a week later was during the night. We're going on another in February, I hope we get to see more after we leave the city.
We live just down river from the port and sail each January from N.O. Sunset in January is around 5:30pm, so you won't see a lot. You will see the lights from the rigs if you're outside around 11:30 to midnite. Also if you leave or return on a Sunday you may pass another cruise ship at the mouth of the river around 11ish.

  12. Debating about booking cove balcony....experiences?
We've done 2 cove balconies on the Dream. 1st was under guest services. We were close to the front of the ship and found it's location fantastic for going up one flight of stairs to the theater and atrium activities. Also easy getting off in ports of call, and great for watching pier runners. Oh, and coming back across the Gulf of Mexico, the seas were a bit rough. As the ship broke through the waves we would get a spectacular spray out in front of our balcony. The second time we were under the galley near the middle elevator. It was convenient to get to dinner using the rear stairs. But at night I would hear what sounded like distant thunder on occasion. Yes, galley noises. Not enough to keep me from falling asleep, but noticable. Both were great size balconies and very private and shady.

  13. We’re sailing on Breakaway in March and we’ve never sailed from NOLA and are planning on arriving a few days prior for sightseeing. What time does the terminal open up for checking in and typically when does boarding actually start? We are not staying in the haven and it’s only our 2nd NCL cruise so no priority status and just trying to figure out how it all works.

We usually get to the terminal about 10:30 and people are already in there. Boarding usually starts about 11 - 11:30 am. I can let you know better after our cruise in January. The breakaway is much larger that the usual NCL ship we've had in N.O., so I don't know if that will make a difference.
