  1. I don't tip extra for any other reason than it makes me feel good and is enjoyable. In this small way I am perhaps helping the NCL crew who, cruise after cruise, make me sooo happy. I'm not waving it around and am not trying to buy favoritism from them. If I get rid of 100 one dollar bills over the length of a cruise, its been an enjoyable way for me to spend that money. Personal choices.

Thank you Roger001. I agree, makes me feel good and I plan on having those dollar bills as part of my spending money.

  2. So, they don't have a free buffet or anything, you have to buy all food? We are on NCL for the first time, the breakaway out of NOLA this December. Thank you!
Yes. No free drinks or food on Harvest Caye. I believe it was a deal worked out with the Belizean government. It is such a beautiful stop, go ahead and go hang out by the pool, or the beach, or zipline. There's a lot to do there or just relax by one of the largest pools in the Caribbean.

  3. If you elect the free alcohol package on the ship does it include free alcohol on the island at Harvest Caye?:confused:

I'm guessing you're going on the Breakaway out of New Orleans? Me Too! Harvest Caye is Beautiful! You'll love it. Plenty of loungers by the beach or by the gorgeous pool. Several places to BUY drinks or food. You can always go back to the ship for free food and drinks (with your UBP). Do get off the ship and explore Harvest Caye, you just might really enjoy it. (I'm from da Parish - your across the river neighbor)

  4. I posted this question on the port's board to no avail. Is it possible to make a 12:15 International flight on a Saturday? I think the cab ride/shuttle is approx 45 min. is this correct?

You'll be getting off the Breakaway when we're getting on. Yes, it's possible. (Barring any delays getting to the dock, going through customs, and traffic getting to the airport.)

  5. The last time I brought more than just a carry on was years ago on the Jewel. There was someone in one of the lounges where she tagged your luggage and you could retrieve it once the cabins were ready. I vowed never to carry on anything bigger than a small suitcase after that. It was just too much of a hassle, but having a place to drop it off while we ate was great.

  6. Hi all,

My husband and I will be returning to Harvest Caye in December. Last month, we rented a pool cabana and it was heaven. For our return, we are contemplating the beach villa since the price of the pool cabana has gone up enough that the villa is only around $100 more. Has anyone here done a villa with just 2 people and how was it? Also, what is the general opinion of those who have done the villas?

I have a couple of hesitations. One is that the water temp may be cold in Dec. The other is that the ship may have a shortened port day (this happened to us last month and we lost 2 hours. The cabana attendants told us another ship left at 1pm and they lost 4 hours!)

We rented a Villa for our family of 6 (all adults) in January of 2017. We loved it. The day we were there temps were in the high 80's and the water was warm, We were told the day before the temp was 93.

I haven't seen the current prices of anything at Harvest Caye, but was curious as to the cost of a pool cabana. It will just be the two of us this January and I thought that a cabana might be good enough.

  7. There are flood gates at two points in the Mississippi River above New Orleans. The one most likely to open is the one just a few miles upriver The Bonnet Carre' Spillway. IF needed this will drain the excess water from the Mississippi River into Lake Pontchartrain. It's a good system that has been used since 1931. There is another spillway closer to Baton Rouge that is used much less frequently.

  8. First I will say that Tandoor is one thing that I have loved on Carnival cruises, (the few that had it), and sadly I see that slowly and gradually they are disappearing from the ships.

Enjoyed Tandoor on Freedom in 2010, and in 2014, it was gone because in the previous drydock they took it out to make room for Guy Burgger and or the Iguana place. Admit I did enjoy the burger I had from there in 2014, but missed tandoor more.

Im not sure, but think Dream does not have Guyy Burrger yet, so maybe that is why they are removing Tandoor to make room for Guy and the grease bombs lol.

No offense to the many who love those grease bombs, and as said I admit to having enjoyed one or maybe two, but for me I miss Tandoor, and can happily cruise without Guy's.

I know that I am in the minority, I am also one of those in the minority who like Carnival older ships with Farcus decor!!!!! Yikes....:p:o:eek:

The Dream does have Guy's Burgers already.

  9. The check in times seem to be rigidly enforced at some ports and not so much at others. I have seen references to NOLA being one of those they do take it seriously. If you try earlier, I would suggest not going so much early that you will tire of sitting outside waiting for your appointed time. I can be cold even in NOLA! ;)

Like today, It's 46, rainy and with the wind feels like 39. The only good thing is that usually you can wait under the canopy where the taxis drop off and pick up, so it's not like you're out IN the rain. I usually have a jacket and jeans to board in January and by the time you're halfway across the gulf, the temperature is nice enough to lose the jacket. Same coming back. You just never know. One January a few years ago we just missed an ice storm that had shut down the interstate.

  10. Yes.

    Dear Carnival Triumph Guest,

We want to provide you with an update on your Carnival Triumph cruise for tomorrow.

The ship experienced a technical issue on the previous cruise and repositioned to Mobile so we could perform the necessary work. This has now been completed and our plan is to depart for New Orleans later today. We expect to arrive tomorrow afternoon and we will provide you with an update by 9:00 AM (CST) tomorrow.

In the meantime, please sign up for text alerts by texting CCL1 to CRUISE (278473) to receive updates. Please do not proceed to the cruise terminal until you have heard from us.

We apologize for this delay and thank you for your understanding. Our entire team is looking forward to welcoming you on board!

    Sincerely,

Triumph just passed the lower Belle Chase ferry. Still several hours out from port. Any clue on boarding times?

  11. We are sailing on the Dawn in December. We just received our upgrade email and I was wondering what perks come with Suites on the Dawn since there is no Haven. In particular, does anyone know the dining options that come with the suites? We recently enjoyed the breakfast and lunch menus in the Haven on a prior cruise and want to know if they are available on the Dawn to suite guests in a specialty restaurant? Also do you get priority boarding and disembarking as well?

    Thank you

    Eric

We were in a suite on the Dawn in January. For breakfast and lunch we ate in Moderno.

  12. While I have no specific information, I'd put the chances that the Galveston port opens at near zero in the near term. It's more likely that passengers get off loaded in New Orleans and these cruise ships get taken to Galveston to serve as temporary shelters.

That's actually a good idea. Let them get supplies here in N.O. and get to Houston where they can help.
