  1. :D Yes,,let's stop it now,,really didn't want to start another boarding time " discussion"..it just amused me and I thought I would try and inject some lightheartedness around this very touchy subject!

Bookings are linked so we get the same dining room for whole cruise not just embarkation day.,,did it on the advice of someone very kind on here.

  2. printed off our e-tickets tonight for Azura 28th May and noticed our boarding time is 1pm. This made me chuckle as every single cruise we've done now has either been 3pm or 3.30pm. I know most of you would be glad of that but I'm thinking how early we'll have to get up and set off to get to Southampton from the East Midlands  we can't go the day before as my son has work commitments,,so I'm irritated that it's so early;),,let's not get started on that old argument again though eh,,I just thought I'd tell you! Maybe we've piggybacked on our friends booking as they are in a suite and we've linked the bookings for dining purposes.

  3. Deeliteful,,,when you were in Olden can you remember about what time you left? I'm guessing around 5pm? We are looking at the new skylift thing and really want to do it if we have enough time after the glacier hike. My husband,,son, friends and their kids are all booked on the 9am briksdall glacier trip and really want to do it,,they are doing the full on hike not the troll car version:o I'm thinking we might have around 3 hours to go and do the skylift after they get back.

  4. I really really fancy that new sky lift thing but everybody else I'm travelling with are doing the full on glacier hike,,I really really don't fancy that:o what I'm wondering is if it might be possible to do both as they are all booked on the 9am hiking trip. Decisions decisions! Can I fit the troll car thing in first then the skylift:confused:

  5. Good evening shipmates:cool: I'm off to Norway again at the end of the month and I'm quite fancying doing the cable car in Bergen. Has anybody done it independently? Is it walkable from the port areas? Further than the funicular and general waterfront areas? Some friends have booked a ships trip but I would prefer to do it at my leisure. Any hints and tips greatly appreciated :)

  6. I've done quite a few of the 2 nighters now and I love them. Yes,there is definitely more of a party atmosphere but is that really a bad thing? This time last year I took a friend on a Britannia 2 nighter to Guernsey to see if she liked the idea of a cruise and for me to see the ship.,we had a great time. Of course there were a few groups on board but in my experience they are the more mature civilised groups not out of control young aggressive males you would get on regular stag nights..or hen nights! Watching their antics around the pools at sailaway is always amusing and always makes me wish I was part of such a fun group! Go and enjoy yourselves,,it's a lovely way to spend a couple of days.

  7. One thing nobody has mentioned is that Thomson have excellent cruise and stay options. I'm a P&O girl really because I prefer the larger ships and to sail from Southampton where possible to avoid flying,,which I hate,,but when we do a summer cruise it's always Thomson. We have a weeks cruise and then a week on a beach,,what's not to like?? We want to try the Discovery2 this summer from Malaga,,some ports call we've not been to so I think that will be our plan for August. The less formal atmosphere on a Thomson ship is nice in summer when it's hot and you just want to relax.

  8. ! After reading another thread that reccomends doing a ship visit in Southampton I think we might go see Azura and then if we like her we will book!

I don't think there will be an "if" in regards to liking Azura  she's a beautiful ship,,my absolute favourite.

I'd really love to go on a Caribbean cruise at Xmas but my kids won't consider joining us and I just can't leave them at Xmas.,,but the very first time that both of them say they won't be at home cos they are going,,wherever,,I'll be across the Atlantic and first on board:cool:

  9. I've done the nutshell tour as well. I really enjoyed it. It was a good day out and we saw so much of the area and the stunning countryside. There is also a stop at a huge waterfall that you can walk really close to,,I think it was the Voss waterfall? We did the train down the mountain from myrhdal and yes it was jam packed and very difficult to see much because everybody that was sat in the window seats had iPads and cameras held up filming it so you really couldn't see out properly,,very thoughtless and irritating. That train is the highlight of Flam and is always packed solid...I strongly suspect the better times to do it would be after the cruise ships have left!

  10. I'm just saying that there is usually something worth eating. Not every dish needs to be spectacular. I'm just grateful to have time away from cooking it myself. Yes some dishes are just ok. Yes the same vegetables seem to appear at most meals but in a world where millions of people have barely enough food to survive i don't let it ruin a holiday.

    Absoruddyexactly! ;)

  11. I've done it twice, both times d.i.y. Based on tips I found on here somewhere and in a travel book I bought,,and from chatting to people at dinner on the ship the night before we got straight up there as early as poss on the Bergen day. No faffing about,,just head straight for it and don't get distracted by anything on the way! If you have mobility issues and can't march it out to get there ahead of the crowds I'd get a taxi. Both times I've done it and it's worked.,and I've been coming back down by mid day after a nice couple of hours up there exploring the troll trails etc.,,and the queues by then were indeed all the way down the street. I didn't pre book tickets, just bought them there on the day. It's a fast moving queue but the earlier you get there the better. Then you can have a nice leisurely afternoon wandering around the Bryggen and the waterfront soaking up the ambience:cool:

I think you have to go with what I call the Disney approach...when we go to Florida we decide what we want to do most and get there early and go straight for it before the rest of the world thinks about it!

  12. Picking your brains again shipmates;) we're going to the fjords on Azura at the end of May and some friends are coming to. Thus will be their first cruise and they have 3 children,,12,, and 8 year old twins. They are active adventure loving kids and are wondering about kayaking in gerainger and olden. I've searched on various Norway sites but it all seems to be camping and tours. I know I've seen kayaks and other stuff going on in the ports before but not sure exactly where. Does anybody know for sure if this sort of stuff is on offer in these ports,,d,I,y jobs,,not ship tours. Can they just rock up on the day and think,,oh yeah we'll do that! Any recommendations appreciated
