Going on Brittania 30 Dec from Barbados. Booked a guaranteed cabin

 

When do you get notified of your cabin number.

 

Also booked a supersaver fare, I believe you get your dining arrangements when you get onboard, can you change this would like anytime dining.

Don't worry about it Jayne ,,both times I've cruised on Brittannia this year I've had freedom dining,,and I only ever book the saver price;) you go and enjoy your cruise! I'm not jealous at all:rolleyes:

Never mind ships,,,cos we are all living longer we'll be clogging up the nursing homes! Millions of seasoned intrepid old cruisers trapped in land- locked old folks's homes staring wistfully out of the windows recalling their glory days sailing the seas,,,,while cruise ships languish quiet and empty in backwater ports groaning with sadness,,,can anybody see a future gap in the market here?? :D

Oh bless them,,,I don't know how old they are but I'll just say this,,they should do it,,go and have fun, there's no pockets in a shroud, I work for a funeral director so I know that for sure;) do it while they can!

We'd love to do a fly cruise on Oceana and see the Med again but I hate flying therefore I have vowed to never do a fly cruise again (totally not being a burden to my family :rolleyes: )

I hate flying to. Terrible way to travel,,but the world is a big place and I wanna see it all! I can cope with up to 3 hours reasonably well now but anything over that would have to be really really worth it for me,,I'd never fly for hours just for a beach. I'd love to go to Cyprus but it's about 5 hours innit,,too long for just a beach! My husband has the travel bug so we compromise,,I fly,,he sails,,we have a week on a Spanish beach! Give and take,,but I still hate it!

Thanks to everyone for this advice. I will pass it on. Well they have booked now and we will be taking 2 very excited new cruisers on a cruise with us in April 2018. We have sorted a balcony cabin mid ship for them, though it is on B deck as they wanted a nice balcony.

 

Reading all of this makes me realise how lucky we are that neither of us gets even the slightest bit sea sick. We were meant to sail :D:D

Depends what you mean by facilities! The terminal is comfortable enough for the short time you will be there. Plenty of seating, toilets, drinks etc. It gets a bit warm for me when it's packed but I'm at a funny age so maybe it's just me!

Reading this thread got me thinking,,has anybody ever actually seen the engines on a cruise ship? In my minds eye I imagine lots of huge Pistons and oil well type things going up and down :o I'd love to see the engine room!

Thomson,,,but only if it's on a Dreamliner cos it flies faster so you get there quicker :D it took well over an hour off our flight to Florida.

My sentiments exactly ...it's a cruise ship sailing on salty water the only way to stop rust is to construct it from plastic...perhaps in the shape of a large yellow duck?:D

I really fancy this one. I've been watching the price for a couple of months now,,it's gone up £20 since Thursday. I met a lady on holiday in August who said that they hadn't been able to get into the locks to get up to Amsterdam last year and I'm sure she said something about Rotterdam instead,,it was noisy though so I may have mis-heard. Wasn't last xmas and new year particularly bad for storms though?

Travel /sea sickness is a terrible thing. My husband and daughter both suffer dreadfully,,my husband is usually fine on a ship but can't do any rides in Disney or anything like that,,not good on coaches either. When it gets him , it strikes hard and fast and he just collapses in a heap and you think he's dying,,it takes hours for him to recover from it. We make sure he has avomine or stugeron well before going anywhere. They work for him in that they stop him feeling so bad he vomits and collapses but don't make him completely better. They don't work for my daughter at all and she refuses to try cruising again. I, myself, am lucky enough not to suffer it but I do get very dizzy if there is a bit of sway but I go outside and focus on the horizon until my head realigns itself. I've also noticed that distraction techniques work! After all is said and done though if you don't like the motion of the ocean and can't stop thinking about it then will anything work? It's horrible and definately spoils your holiday. I hope you manage to figure it out.

I am not portraying them as a negative aspect, but they do make for a different ambience as do any large partying groups and it could be quite a shock for some folks if they are not aware and expect a peaceful or different experience.

Why should Leekaz worry about stag and hen parties getting out of hand with drink? Kaz has already indicated she is coming from Glasgow. It appears to me parents live there. All ladies from Glasgow are affectionately called Hen and I believe Glasgow (European City of Culture 1990) is not a dry city.

I don't think for one second that anyone should worry about stag and hen parties! Some posts however seem to give the impression that they are a negative aspect of the mini cruises,,of which I have done 9 now and thoroughly loved every single one.,,maybe that's my dad's Glaswegian genes coming through.

Don't worry about the presence of stag or hen parties on board,,they liven things up at Sailaway time! I'm always slightly jealous that I'm not with them:D but then my spiritual home is Benidorm cos I like to be entertained! ;)

Azura is always perfect:) she's the best ship ever in the whole universe! I've not been on her this year and I have definately missed her! I must get something booked on her soon.

I suppose it would depend which airline you will be flying on. I did a 6am flight from Manchester to Venice in June with Thomson and nothing was given freely,,but then it very rarely is nowadays is it! Maybe it's only long haul flights now that meals are provided.

I'd say consider what's more important to you personally. The quality of the ship or the atmosphere/friendliness onboard. I personally much prefer P&O's bigger newer ships but the happy atmosphere on a Thomson ship is hard to beat in my opinion. If you put a Thomson crew on a P&O ship you'd have it all! Just had an excellent week on the dream,,one of the best cruises we have done.

We've just got off the Dream yesterday and we got a box of chocolates and a little printed card saying welcome back! The cabin steward gave it to us on the 2nd day.

We just got back into Corfu this morning after our week aboard on the Agean shores cruise. It was a fabulous week. It was our first time on the dream and we liked it enough to say we would cruise on her again if the itinerary appealed to us. I personally didn't hear any moaning from passengers about anything at all. One or two things niggled me a bit but nothing major,,from the minute we boarded we were constantly being hassled by waiters to buy the drinks package which was £230pp or the wine package,,,I eventually lost patience and told the waiter not to ask me again.,,if I say no I mean no. The pools were very noisy with kids running and shouting everywhere,,but it's school holidays so that's my own fault for booking it now. Captain asked every day for kids not to run around splashing etc and for parents to keep them under control but it did no good. Those pools are very deep and steep to get into,,didn't bother myself cos of the crowds but watched people struggling in and out. I missed the adults only deck space that I've enjoyed on bigger ships, I'm not an miserable git but a bit of peace and quiet is nice. We seem to always gravitate to the back of the ship which we did on the dream and spent most of our ship time at the lido enjoying the views. All the waiters seemed happy and efficient to us,,we never waited for drinks anywhere. Cabin steward Jakub (deck 9) was excellent. Entertainment team sang their hearts out every night! All in all we have had a fantastic week. The ship does definately have a toilet problem though which could be the cause of the terrible smells that emanate through the cabin corridors at various times of the day and night! Our toilet and bath were bubbling away and the water in bath whilst showering wasn't draining away very well. I loved captain Richard's daily and nightly speeches,,very dry sense of humour!

Does anyone know how much it is? I might consider it if I think it's reasonable.

The little Astoria followed us all round Norway back in May ! she parked next to us everywhere we went and looked sssoooo small next to Britannia! she followed us out of the ports and into that big North sea like a little duckling follows its mother and looked so pretty all lit up. I swear our captain kept slowing down to wait for her ;)

Wwwhhhooooooaaaaaa ,,,I'm not liking the sound of this,,the Dream is underpowered for the prevailing winds! does she not have warp engines? :eek:

Well,,I've booked the Ephesus trip just in case but I am going to keep a close eye on things between now and when we go on the 12th August. If there is more trouble or I am not 100% comfortable with it I will cancel it. I too am hoping that Thomson cancel this port. We will soon see I suppose.

We mention the dietary requirements when booking and are told the ship will be notified. The restaurant staff do already know when we board. As is usual we book special meals the night before with the manager. This doesn't affect the main comments. On a ship with 3,500 passengers how many would you expect to find these issues relevant? More than a few is my belief. Other cruise lines do better.
