  1. I was because I bought a data package before we left home. It was $25 for 100mb (or gb I get confused with this stuff) of data. Using google maps eats it quick tho. I had to renew 3 times during the week and I just used the service to use maps, email checking and to post a few pics quick to Instagram. I have Verizon and an iPhone so my phone has the SIM card built in. Some devices you have to buy a SIM card or something.

  2. The black beach is the whole coast opposite of Oia. But as you drive to Oia you will see where that coast is. Alls you need to do is from Oia is take one of the roads down the hill to this main road that runs along the coast. So about 5 minutes from oia to the black beaches. There are plenty of pull offs that you can walk down to the water. There was an actual resort over by the airport. That's where I went to the water. You can also find some lava rock around. I loved the black sand because it looked like it had glitter in it. I wish I could give you road names but we kinda just drove and looked at google maps to see what roads connected.

  3. If you just used this last week how did the timing all work out. We will get the ATV at 8am and back on the ship by 6pm. We wanted to relax at the winery for a bit and then see the town too. Will we be pressed for time? any tips on using the map?

The timing worked well for us. However, we didnt go to the winery bc we don't care for wine. Instead we just drove around the island and stopped at some windmills and the black beach on the opposite side of the island from Oia. Our ship was docked noon-8pm. We had to get tender tickets around 9:30am and I got us boat 2 so we were off ASAP. We rode the donkeys to the top and rented the atv and drove to Oia. We stopped for some pics on the way then spent probably 2 hours or so in Oia. Would've been longer if we ate but I'm a way picky eater so it's just easiest for me to grab snacks along the way. Then we explored for awhile and turned the atv back in around 6 to spend some time in Fira. We took the last tender at 7:30 back to the ship. So I'd think you will be good time wise because you have more time then we did even.

No tips on the map really. I used an app called my places and those maps saved in there and the place I wanted to go to I pressed on and it opens in google maps on my phone. In santorini I really only used the map to find the atv place and the blue domed church over look.

Have a good trip! This was my favorite port out of all 6 cruises I've been on.

  4. If you want an accurate ship count, you will find it at our port authority website.

What sites do you not want to miss? Your ship is docked from 1030 to 1830, about 5 to 6 hours in Dubrovnik. Use the tourist map to get your bearings and plan your day with it. What are your interests, we have many historical sites beside the city wall and cable car.

Thanks for the website. I have the maps printed out and will use them to get us around. We like anything history related really so any of the sites will be of interest after we do the wall and cable car. I guess my main question is should we take a cab from the port directly to the cable car or should we walk half the wall starting at the pile gate then find the cable car when we get to the ploce gate. We would like to see the buza bar as well. Thanks a lot for the info, I appreciate it!!

  5. Please post a review. We are doing the same itinerary two weeks later.

Hope you have fewer ships in port than we will. That's one reason we decided to do a private tour. Very excited about Dubrovnik also.

I looked at one site and it showed our ship and another ship but 2 ships doesn't seem right. I figured there would be more. I hope someone gives a suggestion as to what order to do things. I will post a review when we return!!

  6. I have read through this whole thread about 2 or 3 times over the past month and I just cant figure out how to utilize our time properly and in what order to do things. We will be on the Splendour of the Seas and in port from 11am-6:30pm on June 2. While visiting, we would like to do the cable car, walk the walls, buza bar and walk around the old town. I'm not sure if its best to get dropped off at the cable car and do that 1st or where to fit that in exactly. We usually do the cruise lines tours but the ports on this trip it seems better to DIY so I want to make sure I plan it right because I'm really excited for this stop. Any suggestions are much appreciated :)

  7. Thanks for all of your great posts! We don't usually do the do it yourself thing at ports but for the upcoming cruise we are going on it just seems that DIY is the best option. Your info has been a huge help and I saved a few of your maps. And of course, the pics you posted are so good :)
