Just a bit off topic:  our Personalizer for the Hawaii/South Pacific Enhanced Voyage no longer has the health tooll.  Do you think they are changing the protocol?  Thanks

The good and the bad. Our  upgrade bid was accepted . But, it's a connecting room. Can anyone give me some thoughts on how noisy that can be or at least hints on how to lessen hearing the other cruisers in the next room ?

I can give you plenty of bad from our last experience.  The people in the cabin next to us insisted on keeping their sliding door open all night and the wind whistled (roared) thru the crack in the adjoining door and you couldn't even hear yourself talk.  Also, it was blowing cold air thru the cracks right onto our bed and it was freezing.  Hubby solved it a little bit by stuffing toilet paper in the cracks to cut down on the roar and breeze.  Several requests to them by cabin steward to close their door at night made no difference.  Never again.  But, I guess they would be good if you have family traveling with you.

So now I am TOTALLY confused (not hard to do).  Received a recent invoice for an enhanced cruise down the line.

Before this, it was a PCR, proctored rapid antigen, or even self test 72 hours and/or 3 days before (whichever invoice/web site your read).

In addition, guests ages 5 and above must produce at check-in a photo of their negative self-administered COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test taken within one day before cruise embarkation with a time and date stamp. Please note that testing and self-tests will not be available at the pier. Face masks will be required indoors on board for guests 5 years and older. It is strongly recommended all guests are up to date with their COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations before travel. Review health and safety information at https://bit.ly/pcl_chfaq.

Princess needs to stop confusing me.  I won't even get into the "non mentioned" documents that a passenger needs to fill out.

How far out is this cruise anyway?

I am so sorry that I was not clear. Your original question was if the 3 days could be also be seen as 72 hours. Here is your quote:

"The language for getting a covid test 3 days prior to your cruise could also been seen as 72 hours, correct?  There are several different opinions of this andf I say it's 72 hours prior.  What say you?"

Therefore, my answer was that no, that is incorrect. The 3 days and 72 hours are very different in the covid testing world.

And jeeez... of course technically 3 full days are 72 hours. In the last year, cruises were quite clear about testing and selected to use the number of days versus the number of hours.

Now I will answer your question about when the 3 days begin. It was quite the topic of conversation last year. I only know that because we were on two cruises last year.

If your ship departs on a Sunday, you can test beginning on Thursday. You can test beginning at 12:01 am on Thursday which will technically be MORE than 72 hours by the time you are actually boarding your ship on Sunday. And this is why the number of days has more comfort space in it.

So, if you board on the 17th, you may test as early as 12:01 am on the 14th.

    I hope this helps.

Brain freeze and dealing with the remains of Hurricane Ian  has caused my critical thinking to be lacking.  Sorry.  Actually, you gave me a wonderful answer anyway.  Thanks again

These links are from Australia and New Zealand. Princess really needs to get its act together ( I am not flaming them as we are Platinum on Princess), as well as some other cruise lines. Vaccinations and covid testing is no longer required for vising flying into, or cruising.

    https://www.health.gov.au/health-alerts/covid-19/international-travel

    https://www.customs.govt.nz/covid-19/personal/travelling-to-nz/

Have you checked the list of Enhanced Voyages?  That is the list we are trying to go by and calling Princess 10 times gets you 10 different answers.  No one wants to fly to their port and discover they can't board because of misunderstood protocol.

  6. 51 minutes ago, nini said:

Incorrect. It is 3 days. Some guidelines state 72 hours and as others have said, time zones can be tricky.

Where are you going? Princess website is not keeping up with the times. Fore example, there are currently NO requirements for vaccines or testing for Australia or New Zealand.

Yes, I do understand that this covid is a moving target.

I am doing Hawaii/South Pacific.  Are there no longer 72 hours within 3 days?  And exactly when does the 3 days begin?  If we leave on the 17th and get on board at noon, then that would only be 2 and a half days.  Do you begin the 3 days on the 14th or 15th?  Don't you think that is getting just a bit niot-picky?  I need to get my test on the 14th since I am flying to LA on the 15th.

Once again check your voyage in the health tool do not trust what someone else has heard or generic protocols

I totally understand what you are saying but you missed the question I started this thread with.  If there are 72 hours in 3 days, why can't you begin the 3 day count at 2pm on the 14th and the 3 day limit would end at 2pm the 17th, cruise day?  3 days is still 72 hours no matter how you look at it, right?

One of the last interpretations from a PCL manager said:

That’s the same as proctored.  You self administer in front of a medical person, which could be in person at a pharmacy or observed by a proctor when you do it yourself.  The wording is really goofy.

But, same wording on our enhanced in Nov and it WAS required. Whichever you did to test…..it had to be medically observed…that could be medically observed In person test (say CVS)  OR  medically observed by self administered (like an emed proctor).

    The first sentence says: REQUIRED.

The next 2 bullets try to explain the choices of tests, but it says ALL REQUIRED MEDICALLY OBSERVED.

Of course, the App is another story.

Like I said before, we had over 200 that showed up without the medically observed test and denied boarding at San Pedro.  Scrambling to go to urgent care, overwhelmed, then medical came out to the terminal and tested them all after the port authorities became involved.  They were lucky to get on. They had been told incorrectly by a PCL agent.

They need to correct the language.  If they were going to only require a self test, then they should send out an email to those on the voyages and change the wording.

So yes, unless I see it in writing, I’ll purchase emed about 2 weeks before and make a backup appmt at CVS.

Thank you so much for clearing that up.  I have always been a bit concerned about taking the emed tests.  What if you loose internet connection in the middle of the test?  Do you have to start over with a new test?

No chance I’m not going!  My husband insists I’ll love it!

It's a new experience, something new to explore, a new adventure, what's not to love?  Maybe you shouldn't go into it trying to compare it to past ships, etc but look at it as a brand new experience.  I have been booked on this cruise and can hardly wait for something new.

    A week later….no update yet?

Your So Pacific is what we just did on the Crown in Nov/Dec and we DID need medically observed self administered, in other words proctored tests.

The TA Enchanted March 9, 23 is also on the Enhanced Voyages and reads the same as yours, I believe.  Could you verify that terminology as well, when you talk with upper management?

This is the CruiseHealth tool info which differs from the FAQ and the App upload information, as you know.  TIA

On the last bullet point it says, "Medically observed OR OR OR self-administered"  Just what does OR mean then??

Always plug your voyage number into the online health tool to get accurate information for your cruise. They are individual and subject to change at any time. I would check often

I check every day and every day it says it's too early to post protocol for that cruise and yet, someone else on same cruise seems to have different language.  Confusing for sure.

I have a cruise in March and mine does show. They may be waiting to see if a particular port or country makes changes.  On mine Colombia changed their rules and now I am seeing people who are unvaccinated being very upset that they need a medically supervised test and are somehow blaming Princess

It does qive directions on taking a photo of test results along with passport for your self-administered test.  Why the instructions if they arern't legal?

  14. 6 minutes ago, memoak said:

Like I keep saying I urge everyone to look at specifics for their individual cruise and not look at general guidelines. In the personalizer for my Panama Canal cruise if I click on important notices it tells me exactly who needs a test and what kind it has to be. Same information shows up if I enter my voyage number in the health tool. Also be prepared for changes at any time. People who complain about changes based on changes made by particular ports are being unrealistic

And I keep telling you, for our Enhanced Voyage in March, it is NOT there

I find it hard to believe anyone could afford to pay for a cruise and then object to paying for a test. It would be like objecting to paying for a visa

I think you may have missed the point.  Why should any of us pay for a test when Princess should clarify the wording so there are no doubts in anyones mind what we should do?
