Reports on the BBC that a passenger on the grand Princess has died- I have not heard that verified from any other source. It does not say if from Virus or not

Don't know about anyone else but that would feed me for a day if the need arose
I think what they mean is they don't have the unlimited selections they expect on a cruise. At this point in time that would be the least of my worries if I was on the ship

However, late Saturday afternoon, the CDC informed the cruise line of their decision to issue a “no-sail order” until the crew member was tested for Novel Coronavirus, Princess Cruises said.
According to the cruise line, they were unable to obtain a test for the crew member, and “due to the unknown timing of obtaining the test and results or anticipated response,” the cruise was cancelled.
Princess Cruises says the crew member, who had no known contact or exposure to other guests or crew who were sick on the Grand Princess, is past the maximum incubation of Novel Coronavirus, has been evaluated, and has never developed any respiratory symptoms or fever.

There will be enhanced entry and exit screening for cruise passengers, as well as on-board testing for coronavirus, Pence said. There will also be new quarantine standards for those who took a cruise and need to be quarantined, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will coordinate.
The cruise line industry is working with the CDC, Department of Homeland Security and the Coast Guard over the next 72 hours to implement the plans.

I will never get to see 18 months off treatment to plan a trip then as treatment will only be stopping when my time here is done. My oncologist plans things out with me in advance to make sure that I leave for trips with the highest counts possible, and I often get back just a daybefore the next treatment. My oncologist wants me to go on these trips and "live life fully". I have chemo every two weeks; so, there isn't a ton of time in-between. We both know what is waiting around the corner when things worsen & that some day travel will not be possible for me.. It is not automatically irresponsible to plan a trip returning close to the next treatment date. Now going without enough of your medications could be a different story....I try to always travel with 30 days worth, but in this situation even that much could possibly not be enough, and there is always the issue of some meds being controlled, etc.
Exactly I went 5 months after a 7 months stay in hospital for leukemia- I may not have had 18 months at all never mind to wait in. As long as your consultant team are happy (they were ecstatic that I made it and have photos up in the hospital ward of all the places I have visited over the last 18 months) and I am happy then I will go for it. Things may change for a lot of people with this virus ramping up my team would not be happy if I was to travel at the minute - luckily I got back from my last cruise the end of Jan

Plus you are very immune compromised during treatments.One of the reports said that she had surgery and radiotherapy in January and her doctors OK'd the trip as she hadn't started chemo yet. There was a bit of sorting out to see if insurance was going to cover it so they recommended the trip to enjoy time while that was getting organised. Best wishes to the lady concerned

The masks are only effective for 15 minutes or so and once they become damp they actually trap the virus inside. There are simply not enough masks to do the job. In Aus we are being told not to wear them unless you yourself have the virus.
As regards to the test kits available. This virus was only really known about since January. It's March. A test had to be developed, produced and distributed. How on earth could 'the world' produce enough test kits with such high demand, and people needing multiple tests. The logistics are overwhelming and which is why every attempt is being made to slow the spread down. Cruise ships unfortunately are accelerating it.
the 15-30 mins is for surgical type masks - there are others designed to last for much longer

reports from some on the ship on twitter suggest she has. but no idea what impact this will have on her getting the next chemo soon, as I imagine they will have to make sure she is not habouring the virus before starting

this is false the news item was corrected after I posted it it now says for returnees so will not apply to cruisers

Doctors in Malta have threatened industrial action if a cruise liner bound for the island is allowed to dock over coronavirus fears, the Times of Malta has reported.
The MSC Opera is due to arrive in Malta at 18:00 (17:00GMT) on Friday.

Yes it will make it potentially easier to identify although other non vac flu is out there too. But as far as I am aware the flu jab will not help with any COVID-19 complications
