  1. We were on the AOS in August. Upon boarding all carry on luggage was checked thoroughly (I wasn't even sure if they would let me bring on the wrapped candy that I had) ... everyone that had any type of alchol had it taken away from them. There were some very mean, nasty, angry people (I really felt sorry for the crew ... they were only doing their job). Jan

  2. Your anniversary is my birthday!!! A great day :D

I live in New England - not far from Bar Harbor. You have been given great advice that layering is a good idea. It will be the start of fall here (no leaves turned as of that time).

I would be wearing long slacks (people here are very casual - we all seem to wear jeans ... different in other areas of New England though). Sneakers for walking, tee shirts, and long sleeves. A jacket (fleece) with a hood is a great idea.

Have a wonderful time on your cruise ... Enjoy! Jan

  3. Next August we have a reservation with ABC tours (Far away ... but I love to plan) They sent us thefollowing message, and I thought I would pass it along if it isn't otherwise known

"We would like to inform you that as per the 1st of December 2008 the Aruban government will introduce a $10.00 fee per person to enter the National Park (the road to the Natural Pool)."

Looking forward to visiting Aruba! Jan

  4. Wow - what a cool idea to have a computer attached to a bike!

charleysmom - could you work with 2% milk for your coffee? It does have 120 calories per cup, but there are 48 teasp in a cup .... so it would only add 2.5 calories if you used a teasp of milk. (7.5 calories for a tablespoon) richer than skim, but lots less rich than cream which has 20 calories per tablespoon) (whole milk has approx 9 calories per tablespoon). Do you drink a lot of coffee during the day. I usually have one very large cup with cream, but then I switch to liptons "bedtime tea" ... camomille (sp) with spearmint ... it doesn't need sugar or cream ... I love it.

PS - I have found that I need to watch anything that says fat free, as to add flavor when they take out the fat they add sugar .... (I couldn't believe the differences in salad dressing for "fat free" tons added sugar (and calories)

I have started a spark people page and I have no idea how to do it, or what to do with it, but it is under the same name as here. I have a horrible picture of myself "before" that I would love to get onto the computer. Jan

  5. I thought I was the only one that went to the closet to check to see what is too big .... or if there is anything that I can now fit into that I haven't been able to wear!

PS ... DD is standing over my shoulder laughing, as she says I play the closet game weekly!!!! Enjoy! Jan

  6. I don't think I have ever been so touched by a thread. People are amazing, which is one of the reasons I enjoy cruising, the opportunity to meet new people and hear their stories.

I am 54 and 6 years ago I got my wake up call - hospital for 7 days - I was one of those people that thought they could do it all - had a child on Wednesday, went back to work the next Monday - My how my priorities have changed.

Cruising is the one way we can leave work behind ... Our first cruise was almost 4 years ago for our 30th wedding anniversary ... it was almost the most amazing adventure that I have ever had....life with DH has always been an amazing adventure... and he still makes me laugh.

This cruise we will be taking our 15 yr old DS with us and I am truly excited for him to have this experience - I've now started planning a cruise for us and all the kids for 2009 (there will be 8 of us total with "friends") its important to have all my kids together one more time as the older ones have their wings and have flown to different parts of the country.

One thing that I did with my kids and I am so glad now that I did was - each child individually went away with "just mom" for a weekend each summer, we explored the coast of Maine, staying in B&B's - the only requirements were: to get lost, sing loudly, try new food, be truly silly, laugh alot and explore an area that we had never been before --- I have the best memories with my kids ... and the older kids now have the same love of adventures and have done lots of exploring on their own with their own SO.

Thank you to all who have replied to this thread, last week was a wild week at work, and its nice to remember what is really important. Jan
