  1. This issue is bigger than just this cruise. Those of us booked for the 2023-24 circumnavigation want to know if Oceania plans on taking 2 of our port days to do hull cleaning for the following cruise as they did this recent cruise. Since it’s a New Zealand issue, let those folks on the New Zealand cruise float around going nowhere while the hill gets cleared. Our cruise has plenty ( too many actually) sea days already and we don’t want more in order to facilitate a totally different cruise. Oceania has not addressed this issue as of yet.
  2. Typically those port numbers include passengers and staff. So it sounds that with 750-780 staff you have only 700 passengers.
  3. Pre Covid, I believe it was on one of our 2019 cruises, one of the OCA said that Oceania was considering going to an every other year ATW schedule because of the low response rate. O stopped sending the Marina to OZ and then the FP because they couldn’t fill a larger ship. We’re on the Riveria next spring for Japan. That cruise on Nautica sold out well in advance, the Riveria cruises have space galore. There are indeed issues with 180 day cruises, just not sure dedication of a larger ship would affect them. A number of past cruisers didn’t enjoy being a segmenter on an ATW. Those issues don’t disappear on a larger ship.O could indeed give it a try. Be surprised if it happens.
  4. Oceania comes no where near filling a R ship on ATWs. Why would they dedicate a larger ship? Several of the segments don’t sell that well either!
  5. The moral to this entire story is unless one is seasonally traveling when it’s daylight at 7:30, or any other time, there is no advantage to having a window view seat. In fact, the cons may outweigh the pros. FWIW, on our October cruise out of Bilboa it was pitch dark at 5:30.
  6. Where did the spa credit come from? Oceania, TA, or a friend? Was the credit via Oceania or via the Spa operator? OBC can be used for any charges including gratuities ( gambling doesn’t count). Obviously a spa credit is different from OBC.
  7. It’s the Pinotlover at Hotmail dot com.
  8. I typically find the Happy Hour and various “ Reception “ pours to be a bit light. The regular bar pours, at other times, are decent pours.
  9. If Riveria replaces Regatta’s schedule it will only get Regatta’s docking priority. My comments about massive tendering was based upon tendering of a 670 passenger ship versus an 1180 passenger ship.
  10. Purely scheduling. Oceania is low on the totem pole of seniority and thus docking rights. All ship docking are based on that system. It happens both in the US and abroad. By coincidence, the August portdocking schedule of Riveria was not as overbooked as the Riveria August schedule.
  11. I foresee massive rendering in the above case.
  12. 😂 Have never seen those huge pours! My customers would fire someone doing that! 😳
  13. People, over multiple scenarios, seem to struggle with this concept. If one uses an Onboard service on the ship, THEN, OBC can be used to offset those costs. I don’t know the multiple combinations and permeations utilized by other cruise lines. However, everything one does on an Oceania ship is chargeable to the shipboard account.Available OBC is utilized to offset any such charges. How difficult is that?
  14. There is a long practice among certain Oceania regulars to hit Martinis before 5, while the elevator are still running, so not to have to manage the stairs once the drill begins. Typically those showing up late to drills are: (1) The Obvious (2) Newbies incapable of managing the stairs after the elevators are shut off; (3) the jerks that just try to hide believing the rules don’t apply to them. On the Marina in 2019, our reporting station was the GDR. It actually became sport to BOO and HISS all those late comers , holding the entire exercise up, while being delivered in by Security.
  15. This is an interesting dilemma. Alaskan ports are often jammed in the summer. I’ve seen 6-7+ ships in Juneau at once. When this happens, and it doesn’t always happen but often enough, ships are forced to anchor not dock. What I learned is that docking rights are assigned by seniority. Compared to the big boys, Oceania is a baby still in diapers. Stand in the harbor area and we saw the usual actors at dock, and Oceania out in the harbor running tenders. Not the case everyday, but most often. Exchanging a R ship ( Regatta) for an O or A class ship won’t change seniority, but only the number of passengers tendered in and out to/from dock..
  16. It will definitely be interesting to see where she sails. Europe and Americas. We are on the Vista in June and except for the very top suites, available cabins are wide open, and we have not reached final payment yet where more typically becomes available. How many ships does O believe it can fill in Europe? Does Americas mean another ship in the Carribe in the winter or is the Marina getting displaced on its S.A. Winter itineraries?
  17. It’s who they are and what they do. Of course, this is combined with all the posts proclaiming “ I’d Sue”! I’d Sue! 🙄
  18. It’s amazing the vast number of Oceania cruisers that refuse to listen and abide by directives given by ship officers, the cruise director, destination services, tour guides, and that further complain about participating ins SAFELY drill. Maybe it’s the Oceania way. If an emergency aboard ship ever did occur hopefully it would take hours to unfold. All of those above would continue to ignore the warning blasts of the horn and any direction from the ship’s officers because that’s who they are and what they do. It would take hours, with disabled elevators and oblivious passengers, to ever get to their lifeboats. It’s actually sad listening to people ***** about having to attend a simple safety drill. 🥺
  19. How’s this for a reply? If the sun is blazing into the aft of the PG and Toscana, even with the shades drawn, it will be quite warm, maybe even hot. However, in an attempt to cool it down, the blaring air conditioning has it uncomfortably cold in the front part of said restaurants. This condition varies based on direction of the sun and if it’s cloudy. So, in your opinion, are the restaurants warm or cool? As Jancruz suggests, I always take a jacket, and my DW a sweater, which we may or may not wear once there.
  20. New since post Covid restart. Gotta cruise to see/hear of them. They had one on our Oct Sirena cruise. Only the newbies got the personal invite.
  21. The new cruiser reception along with the repeater’s party is by invitation only. They are never announced in the Currents.
  22. NO! There are wine stewards that cover certain areas of the venue with multiple guests to take care. One’s rate of consumption is in no way related to the regularity of appearance of the wine steward. Let me reiterate a point. The waiters do not serve the wine, that is left to the wine steward. So, if your restaurant is full and your wine steward busy, your glass may well set empty for awhile.
  23. They typically only bring one glass at a time.
  24. 8 or 9 hours PE, I can handle. Fifteen to seventeen to OZ, no way. My 6’2” isn’t going to take it. Did it eight years ago to OZ, but not now. We’re booked on the OZ circumnavigation in December. Before booking the cruise, I accepted that the new outrageous BZ tickets were part of the deal. The advantage of being < 5’ 8”! 🥺 I have friends whose wife can sit In Economy and her feet barely hit the floor. She doesn’t understand paying the additional costs! 🥴
  25. Qantas Airlines dumping the A380s and replacing them with the Dreamliner took out a lot of capacity affecting supply and demand. The crazy price hikes on that route reflects that change.
