  1. My husband is a card-carrying beer snob. On our first cruise last September he was lured with the promise of Alaskan beers onboard. He found them replaced with Sea Witch He would just tolerate Alaskan Brewery beers; Sea Witch was offensive.

We had signed on for a British Isles cruise just before. He was, of course, thinking Guinness or Scottish or British ales. Apparently not going to happen.

He got used to drinking red wine on the Alaskan sojourn. He will have to do the same in May However there are more port days on this cruise so he can hit the pubs on terra firma. [emoji2]

They have Guinness onboard. Also Boddingtons, Bass Ale and Newcastle.

  2. In over 50 cruises along all different cruiselines, the only time I saw an incident requiring quick action by security was on Princess. There was a young man that was obviously drunk and lost a lot of money in the casino. As rumor would have it (from the captain's circle host), when he realized what he had done, he tried to jump over the railing from an upper floor surrounding the Piazza. They quickly tackled him to the floor and put up a sheet to keep all this from view of other passengers....which made sense.

I was on that cruise. That was the story that I had heard too. The security team was very professional.

  3. Hi, can anyone please let me know what the blank space is next to this cabin, as is appears to jut out, also does this restrict the view . Thank you , if you have stayed in this cabin would appreciate any comments.

Your view aft will be a bit restricted as the superstructure juts out at the back. See the photo. Your cabin will, of course, be on the other side of the ship, but you get the idea.

    Crown Princess - 3-day cruise - 2015 on Flickr

  4. I have a friend sailing soon on the Crown Princess and they have an overnight stay in Cabo San Lucas. Just wondering how that works, do they stay anchored and the tenders run all night? Or do they shut down from lets say Midnight to 6am. If they stay in the harbor I'm assuming the casino and shops will be closed.

Or do they sail way at lets say 6pm and return again at 6am so they can open shops and casino? I believe this is their only port stop.

We were on Sapphire Princess a few years back and did an overnight in Cabo. Tender service stopped around midnight and resumed again in the morning. We were at anchor all night. We did enjoy a late evening at Cabo Wabo listening to the house band. Good times...

Interestingly, a Carnival ship was also overnighting, but they opted to sail and come back in the morning, presumably to be able to open the casino.

  5. I have a question about Sun Class ship cabins B748 or B753 on the Baha Deck, which I imagine are identical. We have booked B748 on a 2018 cruise aboard the Sea Princess, however we are having trouble finding any info (photos, reviews) about this cabin.

Every other balcony cabin on the deck plan shows a clear line that divides the balcony from others (making them private). With these cabins, the deck plan doesn’t seem clear about where the balcony actually is (aft or on the side). Apparently it is a metal balcony, but it is unclear how big it is as well.

Has anyone stayed in these cabins? They look nice, just feeling a bit uncertain now!!

    Thanks!

Here's a photo of Sea Princess from a cruise we took to Alaska. You can see that B748 is aft facing and has a glass railing.

  6. FYI-Princess' history goes way back to 1965 when Stan McDonald chartered the Princess Patricia to Mexico. This ship was followed by Princess Italia (chartered from Costa); followed by Costa Princess. It was during this time that Jeraldine Sanders, cruise director on Costa Princess wrote her book "Love Boat" about love and romance on the high seas. This book was the bases for the popular TV series "The Love Boat." Costa took these ships back and Princess acquired the Sea Venture and Island Venture which became the Pacific and Island Princess. However, not longer after that P&O acquired Princess and merged P&O's Spirit of London (Sun Princess) into the fleet. These three ships were the backbone of Princess until the newly build Royal Princess came into the fleet in 1984. Princess merged with Sitmar cruises in 1989.

That was actually Princess Carla, not Costa Princess. She was officially named Carla C, but unofficially Princess Carla while sailing for Princess.

  7. As the last paragraph in that description implied there pretty much is no difference these days....most cruise lines build ships that can cruise to any area of the world and when they are built they have no idea of where they will need the ships in 5 years....actually I don't even thing the term "ocean liner" is used nor applicable to any ships these days....

No... Queen Mary 2 is a true ocean liner. She has a deep draft (33 ft. most cruise ships are about 25 ft.) and can sail at over 30 knots. No other current cruise ship can equal that...

  8. Someone who has had experience with this may chime in. My thought is that the credit card tied to your shipboard account is automatically charged and I believe the only method of payment for a Future Cruise Deposit. I can't remember this, but is there a place for you to write in the credit card number on the form?

I hope you are successful. I think future cruise deposit is one of the best things Princess has going.

When you are on a BVE, you have to provide a credit card...

  9. Thanks! I'll try that. I was struggling how to grab the right link in flickr.

    Or you can...

From your image's page, click the curvy arrow at the bottom right of the screen.

On the next screen, pick BBCode and then just copy and paste the link into your message here on CC. You can also pick what size image you want to share... easy-peasy...

  10. Surprising such a new ship is scheduled for a 14 day dry dock already

Kinda unusual, wonder what's up ?

    Srpilo

The standard drydock seems to be at least 14 days... She'll have been in the water for over 3 years, so I think a drydock is due. Rumor has it that they'll also retrofit an aft pool ala Regal Princess. I've heard that the new ship will have a finished central staircase, so it may be likely that they will finish Royal's too...

  11. I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I assume the TA will commence upon completion of the drydock.

    B

Any info on the length of the drydock?

    B

It appears that the drydock is scheduled for 9/24/16 through 10/8/16. The TA starts on 10/8 for 14 days (Rome, Florence/Pisa, Toulon, Barcelona, Azores, FLL). There is a 5-day Caribbean voyage scheduled when she reaches FLL.

  12. Hoping we can enjoy a lot of our Alaska cruise from our balcony. How are the balcony railings? Can you be sitting on your balcony and see ok?

So this is the view looking outside in a Baja deck balcony cabin on Star Princess...

And here's one from on the balcony itself... in answer to your other thread, the Caribe balconies are directly below. You can see that they are half-uncovered. Crown Princess would be basically the same.
