  1. Wow!!!!!!!!! Your husband must be an elderly gent for him to have been around when they "... first came out...". Do you still take him cruising?

They first came out in 1862. I'm pretty sure he hasn't kept them that long.

more than likely she is referring to when they were reissued back in 1976 as part of through bicentenial.

  2. A couple of years ago some guy went into Best Buy (US electronics retailer) to pay off his account with $2. bills.

The csr person called the cops....who were about to arrest him until their superior showed up and straightened it all out.

I have no preference for or against $2. bills. I do find great disappointment in clueless sales people.

I would not take them on a cruise to use for tips.

the bestbuy i am going to assume was in the USA. i see it hard to believe they would have had a problem taking them or that the employee would call the police before they called their manager.

  3. We were in Australia and a tour bus driver asked us if they were real. Someone thought it was cute to give it to him as a tip. Problem was, the bank wouldn't take it. So not only didn't they give him a good tip but they wasted his time in having to go to the bank. Totally worthless. People in the US don't like them. Why would you expect anyone else to?

so part of the tour was to stop by a bank. i think the tour bus driver would have thought the first one was cute and kept it. just like i have kept 2 of all currency from other countries up to the USA equivalent of 10.00

  4. I checked with Verizon before leaving on the cruise, St. Thomas is included, just like Puerto Rico, I've never gotten charges before.[/Q UOTE]

I work at Verizon in Global Tech Support, while in St Thomas you will be charged $1.99 per minute for calls. Data is included though. See: http://www.verizonwireless.com/tripplanner

per the link it says cruise ship rates apply while in international waters and global roaming apply when in port. so if st Thomas should be covered just as Hawaii is

  5. YES... about 2 years the guys were sitting on Lido Deck listening to the football game, got home and had a $500 bill from AT&T :( It was then determined that the person who was suppose to turn off the Cellular @ Sea button forgot to and everyone and anyone who used their cell phone while still at the Port of Miami was billed... AT&T got about 100 calls that particular week from customers who were on the same ship and billed while still at the Port of Miami

The best thing to do is make sure your cell phone, no matter who your provider is, says their name and doesn't say CELLULAR AT SEA top left of the screen...

they would have also gotten calls from people who were on different cruise ships and from people who did not even cruise.

i have Sprint i just put my phone in sprint only mode so i do not roam. I also have international roaming turned off in my phone settings. all it takes is just paying attention to how your phone connects to service.

  6. I have Sprint as well, and my experience is that if you call them four times with the same question you'll get four different answers (and often none of them are right!). You can get the official international roaming information at http://shop2.sprint.com/assets/pdfs/en/support/guides/services/worldwide/Worldwide_eflyer.pdf (scroll down to Cruise Ship Roaming).

I've never heard of an unlimited international voice/text roaming plan with Sprint (they used to have unlimited data roaming to certain countries, but that plan was discontinued years ago and didn't cover ships). Their normal international roaming plan doesn't provide any discount on Cruise Ships. Their multi-country International Data Pack works on many of the Caribbean Islands, but not on the ships.

You should contact Sprint's Worldwide Care department and confirm that you are getting what you think you are getting (and not, for example, a plan that allows you to call and text to the Eastern Caribbean from the US). You can contact them at http://sprintworldwide.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch

If such a plan does exist, can you ask them for the Service Offer Code (SOC)? It may be a new offering, and I'd be interested in that myself.

i have contacted them 3 times and each time got the same answer. RCCL has recently added cell towers to their ships. so it could be a new thing. the cell towers do not operate on their ship to shore.

  7. International roaming plans don't cover cruise ships, and the only carrier that offers a cruise ship calling plan is AT&T. That plan is $30 for 50 minutes, $60 for 50 minutes + 100 texts, and $120 for 50 minutes + 100 texts + 100 MB of data. Verizon offers a data-only package of 100MB for $25, but it's not 3G and calls are $2.50/min. T-Mobile and Sprint just charge $.02/KB ($20/MB) and don't have 3G speeds.

Texts are normally $.50 each to send and between free and $.15 each to receive, depending on your cell phone company.

just called RCCL and SPRINT as that is my carrier. RCCL Said to talk to my provider to see if it was roaming or international roaming. Called Sprint and told then the boat Oasis of the seas and where i was cruising Eastern Caribbean. they Said it would be international roaming and for 30.00 i would have unlimited roaming with unlimited text. i can't text photos as that requires data but i could add a data plan to it. i did not get data price as if i need it i will find free in the ports.

    hope this helps.

the best thing is to check with your own service provider.

i am traveling with family so the text and voice calls will help us coordinate our activities and meetings.

  8. The RCCL app does have deck plans, but, at least on my iPhone, they are not accessible in Airplane Mode. In Shipmate (which only 1.99, and I will be able to use on future cruises!) you CAN access it in Airplane mode. Thanks for the tip!!

i am only on page 15 someone might have offered my suggestion. get a screen capture app and capture each deck as an image put them in a folder on your phone and there you go.

also check with you service provider and add international roaming to your phone plan. plain text messages do not require data so you can text others in your party and if you meet people it is a great way to plan things if they have also added roaming.

you can also check on data plans it might be cheaper than the boats plans.

  9. Ok I just seen the post on Izumi's. we tried sushi for the first time this past cruise and loved it! Izumi's will have about the best sushi you can find, true sushi, no cream cheese American style sushi as we have now found other places since. One other thing, you will be surprised how much of the sushi is fully cooked vs the raw. I like both. We would defiantly book to eat there again!

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

is Izumi's on oasis or allure...

  10. That's pretty cool! I don't think T-Mobile had anything like that when I went..if they did, I sure didn't know about it. :(

Might be something new with RCCL having cell towers... Don't know i just know it is international roaming

  11. Helpful advice.

    http://www.royalcaribbeanincentives.com/resource-center.aspx/onboard-connectivity

I got off the phone with my provider Sprint and they charge 15.00 per phone to add international roaming on all calls and text. To add data there is an additional charge per phone. One option is 30.00 for 55mb don't know what the rest of the options are as data did not interest me. But if i meet others it is nice to know we can exchange phone numbers and text each other if we want to meet up somewhere.

  12. I read the mea culpas and it just got worse.

And this just shows you can't please everyone. I made the second comment about gate lice. Personally i have not heard the term but that doesn't mean much. However i feel you have went above and BEYOND in trying to make it right and clarifying what you ment. If people still have a problem then A. Did not read past that before making their comment or B. They will never be satisfied and it us THEIR problem.

Thanks for the review and thank you for the apology and explanation.

  13. Will be interested to hear more...we got off the day you got on. I like hearing about luxury travel, and certainly do not flame you, matter of fact I am pleased for others who travel in suites.

However, I am Elite and although I do not crowd the entrance I think your comment referring to Elites as "gate lice" would be considered by many, myself included, in poor taste.

Once i saw that i quit reading. Obviously this was not ment to be read buy us poor gate lice.
